I tried to like this mouse

I really did. But in the end: What the heck were you thinking Steve Jobs?
You took away the middle button. You took away the shortcuts button. Minus one star each.
You should stop listening to seasonal computer users who only use their computer to browse and type an occasional emails/word documents/spreadsheets, etc.
That's assuming that you do listen to your customers at all.

Other than that, the mouse works well for all the available functions that it offers.

The left and right click buttons works a lot better than the Might Mouse.

The scrolling is nice and much like you would do on the iPhone, albeit a bit half-assed (no touch - no pinch).

I had to return it after one day of using, only because of the missing third (middle) button. Maybe one day it will be available via software update, but until then...

Very nice, but the old mighty mouse more comfortable

the touch feature is probably the best in the market - but in overall, i say the old mighty mouse is much more comfortable especially if you have to use for more than a few minutes. have been using magic mouse for a few weeks, then today i had a chance to to use the old mighty mouse, i couldn't believe how comfortable it felt. sexy design isn't everything, it fades after a while - what really matters is how comfortable it is. i would wait until Apple releases a better design or another company releases touch mouse.

Great as far as it goes

The touch technology works very well and should be less likely to malfunction than the scroll ball on the Apple Mouse/Mighty Mouse. However, it lacks the side buttons (and scroll ball click) of the Apple Mouse, so you can't use it to access Exposé (or other customized functions), which is a pain. With side buttons - or equivalent functionality - it would get 5 stars.

    Good idea - needs refinement

Love the concept of the touch top and it's executed very well in so far as there is no accidental activity from just resting hand on surface top.

The problems I see so far from my usage are as follows:

    1. Size - I'm 6'3" and have reasonable size hands (wouldn't say overly large) and I find that constant use of the mouse causes pain in the wrist and knuckles from gripping a too small a mouse as I can't rest my palm on it effectively to move and keep my fingers in a position to click

    2. Touch - appears to occasionally be jerky with it's responsiveness. When scrolling up and down pages (for example) first few scroll in time with swipe then I swipe again and there is a delayed reaction and then the pages jump to catch up. Or sometimes I have to swipe a couple of times to make the page respond to a swipe.

I purchased the new Magic Mouse, I love the design and touch surface, but you either must have really small hands because after fifteen or so minutes my hand starts hurting. The low profile and slightly narrow design puts a cramp in your hand, i wish it was a little bigger. I do love Apple butI wish I would have waited before rushing right out and buying it.

    Fabulous, but....not for Aperture users!

    A great mouse.

However, I am a professional user of Aperture and this mouse drives me round the bend. The slightest touch when working suddenly sends the image I was working on away and replaces it with another.

I cannot tell you how irritating that is! We need a 'Preferences' option to disable it in Aperture or one in the Mouse pane that allows automatic disabling of the swipe/scroll browsing when working in a particular program.

Other than that, it is a great thing, although it does seem very sensitive to what surface you use it on. My mousemat makes it slow and juddery - a piece of white paper on my desk is much better.

I had this mouse for about a year and a half when it just stopped working. I really liked it -- great ergonomic feel and intuitive to use. But not sure I'd pay $69 for another one.

Great mouse -- when it connects

This is the best mouse I have ever used, when it it is working. It gives you the precision of a mouse with the flow of a touchpad. But all too often it doesn't work, because it has lost its bluetooth connection. And once you get it reconnected (which is usually a slow process) it can disconnect again a little while later. It is hard to find a pattern or a reason for this problem as it comes and goes. The poor bluetooth implementation of this mouse takes it from a 5 star product to a 2.5 star product (I gave it three stars because I am in a good mood).

Got this mouse with my new iMac (great machine btw). It's a nifty little device and I can see where apple was trying to go with the trackpad built into the top of it. However, it's an ergonomic nightmare. I suffer from carpal tunnel and this mouse does nothing but make my wrist scream out in pain. It's also horrible for gaming, if you move your hand at all it will register as a scroll and you've just changed weapons, or locked the controls in order to select a weapon.

If you're used to a mouse with some grip to it I'd say stay away from this little guy. If your hands can take a bit more punishment and you're not a gamer, then go ahead and buy it.

I LOVE this mouse. I have never liked apple's mice. I absolutely hated the mighty mouse. I figured if this mouse was as bad, I'd just plug a pc mouse into my mac. Great to use and makes surfing your computer easier. My only complain is the battery life; after having my mac about 2 weeks I'm already low on battery in it. Otherwise I would rate it 5

coolness factor high but not ergonomic

Having a BT mouse is nice it frees up a usb port. Its sleek, good solid weight (doesn't feel cheap) and smooth to glide on most surfaces (mouse pad recommended). Its nice that you can set up a left and right click. Gestures are still better done on the multi-touch trackpad if you have a macbook/pro. The biggest complaint I think people will have is the mouse is too thin. It doesn't take the shape of a resting palm you end up keeping your hand stretched, in time you get tired. People with bad wrist like me will have trouble.

    Very Cool but flawed

I really, really wanted to like this mouse but unfortunately I will have to look for something else. One complaint is size, it's too shallow and too small for my hands. Another is that it feels kinda cheap. Doesn't feel as solid as some Microsoft or Logitech mice I have owned. Biggest complaint is that the touch gesture for scrolling works all the way to either edge of the mouse not just the centre of the mouse. If your fingers brush the edges of the mouse it interprets it as a scrolling gesture. Maybe my hands are too large for this mouse to work correctly but I find that apps are constantly scrolling up and down when I don't want them to.

    not for big handed people

Pros, the feels of the surface is good and buttons and scrolling work well. The weight is heavier than the usual corded mouse but I like my mice a little on the heavy side anyway.

Cons, I have big hands and it is too flat for me and my hand gets uncomfortable after a while. Not a game mouse but OK. Price is high.

    Good but not great

Beautiful to look at of course, and the swipe-to-scroll functionality is really great when browsing the web.

Unfortunately, having a touch sensitive surface makes it very hard to use the mouse when in Photoshop, Illustrator and even Excel spreadsheets. I keep accidentally swiping/scrolling left, right, up, down and get completely lost. This makes it really annoying to use when using power-tools where accidental scrolling can lead to chaos!

    NO EXPOSÉ

I am really impressed with the fluidity of the mouse and think that it was a good idea to implement touch sensitivity into a mouse. It feels natural for me since i'm used to using my iPhone or iPod touch. I am very disappointed that the implementation of Exposé did not make it into this mouse itself though. i'm so used to using the trackpad on my Macbook it is strange not being able to do a gesture on the mouse to view all my windows or just the desktop. there are programs that allow you to change this and enable Exposé somehow but i have not tried this. I believe that it should come standard. I wish i had gotten a Mighty Mouse.

The Magic Mouse lives up to the modern, sleek image that Apple has developed. As mentioned in a few other reviews, the shape of the mouse is not necessarily 'hand friendly,' which seems a bit counterintuitive. The 'click' is loud relative to other devices I've used. The touch sensitivity is nice for up and down scrolling, but the two finger swipe can be difficult to master. I find myself shoving the mouse right out of my hand when I try it. I suppose if you have very dry skin, your fingers will glide across the surface with less resistance than mine.

All in all, if you're looking for a functional, accurate mouse, this may not be for you. If however you're looking for a beautiful addition to your desk, look no further.

    right click doesnt work

    • Written by from Dublin

the idea is good but you cannot right click efficiently while your finger is on the left click side. You have to lift one finger before you can click a different way. This is mostly problematic when playing games

I don't have doubts about the form and functionality (I missed the 4 button, it was very useful for me), but the battery consumption is very poor. Its a great failure.

Could do without the sharp edges!

Positives: free from cords, more options and helpful iphone mimic surface
Drawbacks: sharp corners on edges make for uncomfortable grasping, mouse scroll is still slower than corded mouse even at fastest setting.

I originally had the Mighty Mouse and loved it. When the Magic Mouse came out I thought it would be just as good, but it is not. The new scrolling feature is very convenient; however, not having a button to access the dashboard or having all youyr open widows shrink to all be visible is a major downside. I never realized how heavily I used those features but I do. Also, the shape of the new Magic mouse I find to be very uncomfortable. It is too small for people with large hands. Other than that, it is an okay mouse, not as spectacular as it is made up to be.
