Reviews for Apple Magic Mouse

I was super-excited to use this mouse at work, but unfortunately, once the cool factor of the (limited) touch interface wears off, you are left with:

* Relatively slow drag response -- I had to adjust the tracking speed beyond normal limits using Terminal to be satisfied with tracking across the screen

* Random scrolling -- periodically, when clicking frequently, the mouse will scroll in or out (super frustrating in games, for example, where scroll wheel changes weapons)

* Repetitive stress injury -- I had never had a problem with repetitive stress before, but after 3 months of using this mouse at work, I get pain while using my laptop trackpad and had to switch to a trackball to get relief

To add insult to (tangible, physical) injury, the thing burnt through the AA's it came with just sitting alone for a few weeks, and the next set a few weeks after that. The amount it is used does not seem to affect the longevity, just whether or not it is on. (But beware-- switch it off to save batteries, and it may not reconnect if the computer has gone to sleep...)

I was, again, excited to try this mouse, but after months of use, I can only recommend it to extremely casual users. Power users/developers (or even just those who use the computer for ANYTHING all day), beware.

Two stars because I think folks who use it two hours a week will enjoy it without damage.

We are a hardcore Apple family, we have multiple computers, iPads and iPhones...I use this mouse at both home on my iMAC and work on my Macbook Pro. It definately eats batteries like no other mouse. Rechargeables help this be more of a green experience. There are some scrolling issues with them at times, almost like the mouse phantom takes control and it is not clear what is happening. Also one of my mice just died one day after about 6 months of use. This equals $10 a month for a mouse. Definately not a good thing. I will probably just replace the dead one with a more standard wireless mouse. Bottom line is these are pretty good and fun looking but just not quite worth the $70.

I like the design but to move it right and left is not easy, i am not very happy with this mouse and I think its cost is very high... Now I am going to get a mousepad and try different mouse pads to see if it will move a bit faster on the pad.

It's sleek as only an Apple product can be, but it comes with two major letdowns:

1) The battery life is rather poor: 1-2 months with branded alkaline batteries

2) The scroll-sensitive are is very large and you can't change it in settings. This means a lot of accidental scrolling that can be quite annoying

Pros: This mouse is a beautiful piece of visual art, for that as well as some of the functions they tried to make it do i give it two stars.

Cons: Surface is not hard plastic so it dings and scratches very easily during travel. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT ergonomically designed and is quite awkward to use. The scroll functions are choppy and you have to touch it just right for it to register your gesture. The right click function only registers if you perform it perfectly, any lazy right clicking gives you a left click.

Overall: I love the design of this mouse, i just wish they had done more user testing before sending it to market. Sorry apple, not with ya on this one.

Beautiful design, really, a piece of art. Virtual buttons work well, although scrolling feels jaggy, even after I turned off the momentum. It feels a bit unnatural, it doesn't fit in the palm naturally as the old mouse used to. But most importantly, the new version lacks two important features of the previous incarnation where clicking the mini ball revealed dashboard, and clicking on the side buttons activated exposé. I am really missing these two, because I was used to quickly access many tools on the dashboard. I'm not happy with the workaround.

I'm not pleased with the mouse at all. There are 2 less programmable buttons on this mouse which means dashboard and expose can't be summoned as easily. To swipe, you need to apply a little bit of friction right? Well, for me that swipes the mouse about off the table. I can't pin it down with my palm and swipe at the same time without nominal strain that is sure to be carpal tunnel bound. The shape is very flat and does not fit will in your hand. Just get that "Bamboo" trackpad mouse accessory that apple sells instead of this this magic mouse...especially if you are used to the gestures on the macbook pro. Makes no sense that gestures on the macbook pro and ones on the magic mouse would be different.

I spend most of my computer time working in Photoshop, fine tuning small details in photographs or refining graphic images. I had really looked forward to being free from a wired mouse and having an alternative to the Intuous4.

The pairing and set up with my MacPro was a breeze. Thumbs up to Apple for the ease of installation. However, my praise ends there. I set the mouse preferences to "fast." I had to recheck the settings more than once as I found the Magic Mouse slow and jerky. Even set at the furthest to the right, the Magic Mouse remained slower than a wired USB mouse and at times, while working on a fine detail within a photograph, the mouse would jump, causing me to begin my work again.

At other times, I would literally have to exaggerate moves to get the cursor to move within Photoshop at some points and it would simply refuse to move. Even trying to use gentle movements (strokes) the Magic Mouse was jerky and unpredictable. It would be impossible to use the Magic Mouse in fine detailed graphics without further software refinements by Apple.

I am returning my Magic Mouse. If you work with graphics or digital photos, this is NOT an Apple product for you.

I love Apple products, usually. The Magic Mouse is awful. It eats batteries like crazy. Batteries aren't cheap and it's ridiculous how many are used.

Apple needs to come up with a solution and let's make it in America, not China.
