Reviews for Apple Magic Mouse

I originally had the Mighty Mouse and loved it. When the Magic Mouse came out I thought it would be just as good, but it is not. The new scrolling feature is very convenient; however, not having a button to access the dashboard or having all youyr open widows shrink to all be visible is a major downside. I never realized how heavily I used those features but I do. Also, the shape of the new Magic mouse I find to be very uncomfortable. It is too small for people with large hands. Other than that, it is an okay mouse, not as spectacular as it is made up to be.

Slick mouse. Works great for stock apps and the scrolling is cool. But, way to sensitive for Indesign. The page would scroll left/right/up/down at random. Difficult to do layouts when the page would scroll off to the side.

The Magic Mouse is amazing, it works like a charm. However, the battery is draining like crazy when it's lightly used. Even if my computer is in sleep mode, it drains too.

I like the mouse quite a lot. It has quite a few things going for it, but nonetheless there are some inconveniences you may encounter.

Here is a breakdown of my thoughts:

Advantages:
Seamless surface looks great
Less parts (to break, unlike the old apple mouse, in which the scroll wheel broke easily)
Very responsive and fairly customisable

Disadvantages:
Not easy to adapt to the flat shape of the mouse - doesn't feel that great in your hand (may vary from person to person)
Must lift up left (primary) finger if you wish to right-click (secondary button)
Sharp edges of the mouse make it more uncomfortable to hold than the old apple mouse

Overall, I reckon that the mouse is worth buying, if you are willing to live with the small setbacks.

Don't expect it to work all that well if you are using wireless internet. It appears that there is lots of interference between the mouse and the wireless network card, heavy uploading/downloading (file transfers) can render the mouse unusable. Otherwise great.

I love the ideas behind the Magic Mouse and where gestures could lead. I also like the contours. HOWEVER, I have yet to find a cordless mouse that is lightweight enough to use all day long. I still think the basic, $10 logitech or microsoft mouse is the best for using 8 or more hours a day.

STILL, I think Apple is on the right track, just not there yet. I think a small flat or slightly domed tablet with a ball or wheel on the left and a ball or wheel on the top each used by the thumb and index finger, plus the touch sensitive area much similar to today's magic mouse is where we need to move toward.

If there were a Magic Mouse with a tail, i.e. a cord, that was light as a feather, I'd be using it but hence, I am back to my old standby.

The usability of the Magic Mouse is fine, but only if you intend to use it on a desk close to the computer. If you have a large screen and want to browse the internet from across the room, from your sofa, you're in for a headache. Until a friend posted a link to a Pref change for the Magic Mouse, I was bitter. Now it functions much better. I have it set all the way up, though for my minimac. In other words, check out the Magic Prefs that another nice reviewer made if you pick this up. I gave this item three stars, but only because there is no half star. The actions on the mouse were very precise as good as any wired mouse. However...the spring pressure was the worst of any mouse I've ever used. For long term use it got to be painful so I had to sell it on Ebay. To bad it was a good concept.

The mouse itself is amazing and I absolutely love using it, but Apple is really misleading buyers by saying that it has a 4 month battery life. That might be the case if you're using the mouse on a home computer for a couple of hours a day.

I use my mac for about 8 hours a day and I'm not moving the mouse the entire time either. The original batteries lasted a few weeks. I replaced them with brand new Duracell Alkaline batteries and they lasted 6 weeks.

I read reviews of others who said that the original battery life depended on the shelf life of those mice and that new ones lasted longer... this is not the case.

I really feel mislead by the battery life and because of this, I could only give the mouse 3 stars - else it would be a definite 5 (beats the mighty mouse hands down!!!).
