I found the Magic Mouse to be of limited use. It's a great mouse for web surfing, but difficult to use in any other application. It's absolutely horrible at gaming. Third party apps like Magic Perfs greatly extend the features of the mouse. But features do not equate to utility. The touch surface is hard to use while holding the mouse. Multi-touch is a nice feature, but it causes more problems than it's worth. Ergonomically, the mouse isn't very good either. It's too flat and doesn't slide very well. I see this device as a great gizmo, but it's not too useful.

Great concept but very power hungry. Working with this mouse now over 2 month and need to change batteries every other day. Should have come with rechargeable batteries and loading stand or so.

Once again, a great design concept from Apple, but not much for functionality.
I think a software upgrade with more options (2 finger scroll only, etc.) might help with the "jumping" and unintentional scrolling issues with this mouse.
I actually went back to my mighty mouse, because of slow productivity.

I really wanted to like this mouse, but after three days of use, I just couldn't do it. Upgrading from the Mighty Mouse just exchanged one set of annoyances (bad scroll wheel, poor right-click recognition) for another (see below). I like the idea of a multi-touch surface on a mouse, as it brings a lot of potential for new functionality, but the problems of this mouse outweigh the potential benefits, at least in its current form.

It constantly scrolled at random times. Sometimes the slightest of touches would make it scroll - while editing a google spreadsheet, this is a HUGE annoyance. This alone made it simply too aggravating to keep. I was constantly having to hold my hand in awkward positions to avoid touching it for fear of it scrolling my spreadsheets of the screen.

In addition: cost. This mouse does nothing that a $25 basic scroll wheel mouse doesn't do. They both scroll; they both navigate in a browser; they both move a cursor. Why do I need to spend $45 dollar more... just for the added benefit of having to change batteries?

I thought this would be an awesome mouse. It's not.

1. It's heavy, so it slides away from you if you use an ergonomic tray.

2. It's shape causing hand pain after a full days use. I am a designer and it was rough.

3. It's missing those side buttons! A terrible mistake and the main reason why I returned it.

4. The scroll wheel is actually easier to use than a non-tactile surface. I found the touch surface kind of useless after a while.

5. Battery dies VERY quickly. They should last 6 months. Nope - a few days. Geez.

I am back to the original mouse and it's great. Better knowing what a failure the magic mouse is.

The next version of this mouse needs:

1. Less weight
2. Better battery life
3. More ergonomic shape
4. Expose button
5. More useful touch surface. Just scrolling and zooming isn't enough.

I'd love to tell you how the mouse works, but installation is a total nightmare - 2 updates needed before you can even think about installing it. And the packaging is awful, hard to access, sticky bits for no apparent reason. I loved it in the Apple store but had no idea how hard it would be to actually get this thing going! (I'm still working on that....)

I love the idea behind the Magic Mouse but it was poorly executed. tracking is way too slow and randomly slows down for no apparent reason. I have tried several surfaces and the tracking is still unstable. The scrolling works in a similar fashion, it appears that if your hand is touching the top of the mouse the gestures don't work as well.
I wish the shape were more arched, it's too flat. Another Apple mouse that will sit in the closet. Here's hoping a firmware upgrade can address the tracking and gestures problems.

I wanted to replace my wired Mighty Mouse, so gave the Magic Mouse a try. After about 10 days of usage, I'm unhappy to report that my overall experience has been quite negative. The all-direction scrolling works very well. I also like the two-finger swipe to perform 'next' and 'previous' operations. But it ends there. For the first time in over 15 years in using a mouse, my wrist started to hurt. Perhaps it's due to it being heavier? Also found myself fighting with a good placement to get it to track well. On occasion, I must have been putting too much weight on one side? I found that it often "stuttered" a bit in moving the mouse cursor. I will keep the mouse and try it again in the future to see if this all was just a fluke. But so far, I'm quite happy in switching back to the wired Mighty Mouse. Con though is that the scroll ball is not working.

This mouse is infuriating in Illustrator and InDesign. It will randomly scroll, especially when you're dragging something on your board. It's got some cool features and if you're not using those programs, it's a cool mouse but as soon as you try to do some real work in high caliber programs, it just completely fails. The options should at least have the option to shut off scroll in certain programs.

Ok I got my magic mouse with my brand new iMac and absolutely loved it. I had a problem with the first mouse randomly turning itself on and off again. So I took it into the Apple Store, and after enough complaining and explaining my situation time and time again to employees/managers, I was able to get a new Magic mouse in exchange for my old one. This one has the same problems as the old one of turning on/off randomly, etc. etc. etc.

So basically, i love the mouse, and all it's features of the multitouch etc. I think it's great. But for some reason, the thing keeps turning itself off still. So I think the Old Mighty Mouse is looking like a good bet right now.
