    Magic Mouse Battery Life

    • Written by from Fort lauderdale

I really love the look, shape, function, BUT i have to change the batteries every two weeks. Does everyone have this problem or do I have a bad mouse?

Nice gizmo, but low on utility

    • Written by

I found the Magic Mouse to be of limited use. It's a great mouse for web surfing, but difficult to use in any other application. It's absolutely horrible at gaming. Third party apps like Magic Perfs greatly extend the features of the mouse. But features do not equate to utility. The touch surface is hard to use while holding the mouse. Multi-touch is a nice feature, but it causes more problems than it's worth. Ergonomically, the mouse isn't very good either. It's too flat and doesn't slide very well. I see this device as a great gizmo, but it's not too useful.

    Apple Magic Mouse

    • Written by from delmar

The Apple Magic mouse does have great features but has one major draw back. It is not terribly ergonomic. I really should have gotten my money back. Now it is sitting collecting dust. Too bad they did not build these features into the shape of the mighty mouse. It took using the mouse for a while before I noticed the ergonomic problem. When I used it for extended periods even after 10-15 minutes I start feeling major discomfort. My daughter and girlfriend experienced the same thing with the mouse so we stopped using it. I just with there were ergonomic mice that are Apple compatible with programmable buttons. Maybe it is time for Apple to reinvent ergonomics.

Battery use well over the top

    • Written by from Delden

Great concept but very power hungry. Working with this mouse now over 2 month and need to change batteries every other day. Should have come with rechargeable batteries and loading stand or so.

    Too sensitive!!!!

    • Written by from ATGLEN

My hands shake.. They have since I was a kid.. Plus... I have fat fingers.. The mouse is too darn sensitive.. To many unintentional inputs.. I have tried to tweak the mouse to my style but no luck.. Its a GREAT design and concept but doesn't work for everyone.
I need to go back to the Mighty mouse with the scroll wheel button..

Great Idea, but has a few major flaws

    • Written by from Willow River

Once again, a great design concept from Apple, but not much for functionality.
I think a software upgrade with more options (2 finger scroll only, etc.) might help with the "jumping" and unintentional scrolling issues with this mouse.
I actually went back to my mighty mouse, because of slow productivity.
    Keep trying!

Actual use nowhere near as great as slick advertising

    • Written by from Del Mar

The best feature on this mouse is the gesture support and kinetic scrolling. The design certainly looks very slick. However, I think this is the case of form way before function.

Therein lies Magic Mouse biggest and for user like myself most glaring fault, everyday usability. The mouse is so slim (and I have very small hand) yet heavy that the device does not feel very balanced.

I found myself lifting the mouse off the mat several times. General movement feels more laboriously than average mouse. At the end of the day, I noticed that I'm a lot more productive in my day-to-day task using old mouse from Logitec.

I do get a lot of nice comment for my Magic Mouse, but for daily use I sadly turned back to my old mouse. I just sold my Magic Mouse at a loss and look to purchase one from...gasp...Microsoft.

Well intentioned, but misses the mark

    • Written by from Arlington

I really wanted to like this mouse, but after three days of use, I just couldn't do it. Upgrading from the Mighty Mouse just exchanged one set of annoyances (bad scroll wheel, poor right-click recognition) for another (see below). I like the idea of a multi-touch surface on a mouse, as it brings a lot of potential for new functionality, but the problems of this mouse outweigh the potential benefits, at least in its current form.

It constantly scrolled at random times. Sometimes the slightest of touches would make it scroll - while editing a google spreadsheet, this is a HUGE annoyance. This alone made it simply too aggravating to keep. I was constantly having to hold my hand in awkward positions to avoid touching it for fear of it scrolling my spreadsheets of the screen.

In addition: cost. This mouse does nothing that a $25 basic scroll wheel mouse doesn't do. They both scroll; they both navigate in a browser; they both move a cursor. Why do I need to spend $45 dollar more... just for the added benefit of having to change batteries?

    Could Be Improved

    • Written by from Harrisburg

I haven't bought the magic mouse but I have tried it out in the Apple Store. I will admit it does make it much easier to use the iMac, but I have one problem with it, The shape and feeling of it in your hands is simply uncomfortable. I like a mouse that a can feel in the palm of my hands and rest my hand on not something that flat. Sure it looks sleek but when it comes to using it, No thanks.

Hard to Use, Missing Expose Buttons

    • Written by from Brookline

I thought this would be an awesome mouse. It's not.

    1. It's heavy, so it slides away from you if you use an ergonomic tray.

    2. It's shape causing hand pain after a full days use. I am a designer and it was rough.

    3. It's missing those side buttons! A terrible mistake and the main reason why I returned it.

    4. The scroll wheel is actually easier to use than a non-tactile surface. I found the touch surface kind of useless after a while.

    5. Battery dies VERY quickly. They should last 6 months. Nope - a few days. Geez.

I am back to the original mouse and it's great. Better knowing what a failure the magic mouse is.

The next version of this mouse needs:

    1. Less weight
    2. Better battery life
    3. More ergonomic shape
    4. Expose button
    5. More useful touch surface. Just scrolling and zooming isn't enough.

    Cool but ultimately useless

    • Written by from Winnetka

I have a Magic Mouse, and loved it at first. However, it loses the bluetooth connection to my iMac (a new one) almost every 5-10 minutes and you have to wait for it to re-connect. It is a disaster. My old apple bluetooth mouse, and my apple wireless keyboard, work fine, so this is definitely a Magic Mouse isssue.

    Installation is a nightmare

    • Written by from Regina

I'd love to tell you how the mouse works, but installation is a total nightmare - 2 updates needed before you can even think about installing it. And the packaging is awful, hard to access, sticky bits for no apparent reason. I loved it in the Apple store but had no idea how hard it would be to actually get this thing going! (I'm still working on that....)

Great idea, but fell short on expectations

    • Written by from JACKSON HEIGHTS

The mouse is a revolutionary pointing device, however it is uncomfortable and actually unhealthy to use in the long run for your wrist. It puts excessive strain on the carpal tunnel in my opinion and hand muscles and may cause a person to develop a carpal tunnel syndrome or exacerbate existing one. Swiping with two fingers is not as easy as I thought. It will probably take some time before this device is perfected.
    Very esthetically pleasing.

Great concept...needs a lot of work

    • Written by from Madison Heights

I love the idea behind the Magic Mouse but it was poorly executed. tracking is way too slow and randomly slows down for no apparent reason. I have tried several surfaces and the tracking is still unstable. The scrolling works in a similar fashion, it appears that if your hand is touching the top of the mouse the gestures don't work as well.
I wish the shape were more arched, it's too flat. Another Apple mouse that will sit in the closet. Here's hoping a firmware upgrade can address the tracking and gestures problems.

    Not so magic after all.....

    • Written by from London

I love the design, and even the packaging is smart, but the mouse loses bluetooth signal too often and slows down from time to time.
I switched back to my old wireless mouse and was relieved that the scroll wheel still works, and with a reassuring squeeze, I was able to see my Open aps (something you can't do on the new mouse).
Apple, this is like a prototype, and needs more work.

Love the touch aspect, but not the overall experience

    • Written by from McHenry

I wanted to replace my wired Mighty Mouse, so gave the Magic Mouse a try. After about 10 days of usage, I'm unhappy to report that my overall experience has been quite negative. The all-direction scrolling works very well. I also like the two-finger swipe to perform 'next' and 'previous' operations. But it ends there. For the first time in over 15 years in using a mouse, my wrist started to hurt. Perhaps it's due to it being heavier? Also found myself fighting with a good placement to get it to track well. On occasion, I must have been putting too much weight on one side? I found that it often "stuttered" a bit in moving the mouse cursor. I will keep the mouse and try it again in the future to see if this all was just a fluke. But so far, I'm quite happy in switching back to the wired Mighty Mouse. Con though is that the scroll ball is not working.

love it except when it doesn't work!!!

    • Written by from new york

Left click stops working randomly for long periods of time, comes back when it feels like it. Tried the "trick" of sliding the power button ever so slightly down towards "off" but that stopped working. It is not "found" by bluetooth even when it's working (odd!), and changing the settings under "mouse" doesn't help. (Switching left-click to right click, for example, only makes the left-click not work as a right-click, so then you have two clicks not working.) I love this mouse except when it stops working!!! I've only had it since august (less than three months). Driving me nuts. And I haven't even upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard yet. Cannot recommend it as I see it's very buggy all over the internet forums. Ironically, it's working now, as I click "submit." Poor mouse.

    Impossible in Adobe programs

    • Written by from Orlando

This mouse is infuriating in Illustrator and InDesign. It will randomly scroll, especially when you're dragging something on your board. It's got some cool features and if you're not using those programs, it's a cool mouse but as soon as you try to do some real work in high caliber programs, it just completely fails. The options should at least have the option to shut off scroll in certain programs.

    Not for long fingers

    • Written by from Bell Gardens

Whoever designed this mouse probably had very short fingers, because I find it very uncomfortable to use it. I can see how a person with small to average fingers can use it, but it's too flat for people with longer fingers.

    Sad Day.

    • Written by from Corona

Ok I got my magic mouse with my brand new iMac and absolutely loved it. I had a problem with the first mouse randomly turning itself on and off again. So I took it into the Apple Store, and after enough complaining and explaining my situation time and time again to employees/managers, I was able to get a new Magic mouse in exchange for my old one. This one has the same problems as the old one of turning on/off randomly, etc. etc. etc.

So basically, i love the mouse, and all it's features of the multitouch etc. I think it's great. But for some reason, the thing keeps turning itself off still. So I think the Old Mighty Mouse is looking like a good bet right now.
