    split decision

    • Written by from SAINT BONAVENTURE

I have two Magic Mice. One stays with a Macbook Air; the other with a MacBook Pro.

The mouse with the Air works flawlessly. It never disconnects from the Air, even at low battery levels.

The mouse with the MacBook Pro? Well, to use a technical term: Its relationship with the MBP is poor. In the past half hour (at 96 percent of battery level), it has disconnected three times. It has become a routine occurrence. The MPB is running 10.8.1.

So, is it the mouse? The MPB? The OS? I don't know. All I know is this combination doesn't work satisfactorily. Thus I am a dissatisfied Apple consumer. But of what? Mouse? Mac? The OS?

Wish I knew. (And then Apple tells me some words cannot be used in my review. None I used was profane. Thanks, Big Brother.)

    Batteries

    • Written by from Quito

Don't leave your uncharged batteries in. It happened to me. I tried to changed them for new ones and it wouldn't go on. On Technical Support they said that it died. And that the warranty works for only 3 months. You would expect more form an Apple product and as an industrial designer myself I feel very dissapointed.

    looks great but functions bad!

    • Written by from Whittier

The mouse has its pros and cons,

    PROS:
its sleek and has a very nice finish to it.

    CONS:
its quiet expensive then again it is a touch mouse and its from apple. Also, swiping on the mouse is a bit clumsy and at time diffcult.

I plan on getting the trackpad and seeing how that works. i hope it works better!

not for gaming, heavy battery consumption

    • Written by from Madison

i really like the feel of this mouse, and love the multitouch when it's implemented well in the app i'm using. but there are a few things that drive me nuts about this mouse:

    1. this mouse eats AA batteries like a hyper kid eats candy from a Halloween pumpkin. i go through a pair a month. makes me wish for a wired version.

    2. right-click is unreliable. after enabling it in system preferences, sometimes i get a right click and sometimes i don't. not a fan of the alternative (having to hold down control key).

    3. can't tweak scroll speed sensitivity. try playing a game with this mouse that uses the scroll wheel as an input and you'll see what i mean.

i'm just about ready to dump this mouse for one with distinct buttons and a regular scroll wheel.

Best and Worst mouse i've ever owned

    • Written by from Arlington

Features make it the best, can't find anything that is as easy to use as the Apple Magic Mouse, on the other hand the design is terrible. Using this mouse for more than 10 minutes and my wrist, finger and hand in general start to hurt. And every time that happens i'll reach for another mouse but the other mouses don't do the gestures that the Magic Mouse does. I really hate this mouse and I really love it, I really hope that Apple makes a more ergonomic version of this mouse soon because my hand is tired of it. With everything that Apple does I don't understand how this product every reached the public, to say the truth, even if you love Apple don't buy this mouse it is not worth the pain that it brings. Just use a off brand for now and wait until Apple decides to update their mice to a more efficient design that doesn't cause pain in the hand.

    Great Mouse-Terrible Build Quality

    • Written by from TUMWATER

I have had my iMac May 2011 version with the magic mouse since it came out. I love the mouse. Only problem is I have been scotch taping the cover on since almost four months after I bought the thing. I call Applecare one time about another issue and the tech and I were BSing for lack of a better term. I mentioned that to him about having to tape the cover on the back of the magic mouse, and he replied oh I have been doing that here for months as well. Do I need to say more. Obviously they need to pay the Chinese a tad more to actually build a cover that once the little slide gets worn in the slightest still works.

Does not perform well with MacBook Pro Retina Display.

    • Written by from Singapore

the built quality and design is top class, premium. The gestures are very useful. But I would't recommend to those who intend to use with MacBook Pro retina display, at least until Apple update the OS to address this bug. My connection with the MacBook keep getting lost, and it'll take a long time to auto connect. A manual reconnect is faster, which shows that the signal is there but the two devices just couldn't auto connect and keep connected. But again, the trackpad on the MackBook Pro is good enough for everyday uses.

    To small!

    • Written by from Tønsberg

The mouse functions are just great, but it's too small for my hand. I'm a man 186 cm/6,1 foot tall, with what I guess is normal big hands for my height.

I have to pinch my hand to hold the small thing, and pressing the thumb and the little finger together like only makes my hand hurt, and moving back to the good old Logitech mouse is a real relief.

This is a mouse sized for women and kids, not for men. I wonder how many Apple employees who either use a Logitech, or choose to suffer with their undersized apple-mouse.

    battery life

    • Written by from nashville

Amazing design. It has a sleek feel to it, as well as many other apple products. My problem was that I had to constantly change batteries. Whether they were rechargeable or regular batteries, the mouse connection would die in less than 2 months. Somewhat disappointed, but still a great improvement compared to older versions.

    Shoddy battery casing

    • Written by from Three Forks

The mouse work well except when the batteries become lose in the battery casing. Then the mouse pointer stalls or becomes erratic. Apple needs to fix this problem.

    Inconsistant

    • Written by from Emporia

When it works it's too awesome. I love the touch sensitive scrolling. However, it has a tendency to loose connection. According to tech support wi-fi networks, microwaves and cordless phones can interfere with the signal. Well I live in the apartment, and my air port card can detect six different networks. Obviously I have a lot of stray signals I can do nothing about. I really wish they had a wired version of it, That I would buy.

    almost amazing

    • Written by from Brooklyn

this mouse defiantly goes leaps and bounds beyond the other mice that mac has came out with ( the one with the little ball in the middle–not great). my only problem is that i have to change the battery so much. i think this mouse would be perfect is there was a rechargeable hub or came with a usb option.

    Not a big fan

    • Written by from Acworth

I love the finger scrolling and don't miss the typical wheel. However, the mouse is to flat. Also, the scrolling is great but moving the mouse where you want on the screen is slow even with the motion set at high compared to aftermarket mouses.

I just have a hard time getting used to it because you have to pick the mouse up and then move some more because it just doesn't move fast enough unless you jerk it.

    It needs to be reconfigured.

Works great... For a little bit.

    • Written by from Las Vegas

I bought a magic mouse to use for my MacBook pro since I hate using the trackpad. It hasn't even been a year and a half that I bought the magic mouse and it no longer works. It would connect then disconnect a few seconds later.I took it to Apple to see if they can repair it for me... And unfortunately my warranty already expired. This is a great product but I rated it a 3 due to it not lasting long as it should.

I used to love the Magic Mouse...

    • Written by from Mammoth Lakes

When I had Snow Leopard OS I loved my Magic Mouse...it worked just fine. But then I upgraded to Lion...and whenever I was on a website, it would occasionally jump from side to side...sometimes disappearing. I went back to to my original corded mouse and what do you know...the jumping and disappearing stopped! I much prefer the simplicity of the Magic Mouse and the scrolling worked great with Snow Leopard...but I just can't tolerate the jumping around and skittishness of sites while using Magic Mouse...I'm ordering a new corded mouse because the scrolling isn't working properly on my old one...

    Limited connections

    • Written by from Slocan

When I first started using this mouse I was very happy with its adaptability to my every need for scrolling down the page. But as time went on my mouse began to be very erratic and lose the connection frequently and could not recover until I practically was ready to smash it and then I could not get the aluminum back cover to stay on which was really annoying while not being able to have the proper connection when it is vital for me to do anything online with all of its features that are supposed to be its assets. I hope to find a better replacement for this mouse.
