    Lost connections

    • Written by from Jersey City

I keep losing connectivity with the magic mouse. It seems to be a battery problem in that changing the batteries always restores the connection. However, this seems to be happening more frequently--every month now (I've had the computer and the mouse for a year). I've decided to give up and buy a conventional mouse.

Very nice looking sitting on my desk, hardly usable.

    • Written by from Georgetown

I am unsure why there is more positive reviews than negative regarding this mouse.

The mouse itself is a really great design cosmetically, however the Multi Touch is hardly usable as your fingers stick to the smooth surface. I guess you could spread a light coating vegetable oil on it to allow your fingers to glide across. So unless you are just stuck on having it in your Apple collection I would not waste your money on it.

Why did I have to miss the return window on this?

    • Written by from Bethesda

Horrible mouse, and an expensive one at that. Whenever I use this mouse I feel like I'm dragging a heavy rock through my desk. Precision and tracking are really bad, I adjusted to the maximum speed and I still feel like I'm going on slow motion. My hand feels uncomfortable just after a few minutes of use, and even the additional gestures are much slower compared with the track pad. So really no redeeming qualities. I'm a developer and I live by my mouse and keyboard, so I've tried numerous keyboards and mouses for my other Windows computer looking for the most comfortable, quiet and faster ones, this mouse doesn't even rank. I'm so upset that I missed the chance to return it just because I bought it and didn't properly try it until a month later. So do yourself a favor and NOT buy it.

    Goes Through Batteries Like Whoa!

    • Written by from Newark

I like how this mouse works, but we've had it for about a year now and we have to change batteries EVERYDAY! We've bought industrial batteries and rechargeable, and we turn off the mouse when the computer is not in use. What is the point of having a better product if it's so NOT environmentally friendly? I'd buy the mouse that plugs in, but it got terrible reviews for it's roller ball not working. What am I supposed to do, memorize all the possible key strokes so I can be mouse free?

    No.

Bought a new iMac (with Magic Mouse) in December. The mouse worked great for the first week or so, but then it started losing connection periodically. By January it was happening so often (every few minutes) that I had to dig up an old USB-powered mouse to get any work done.

    Don't buy a Magic Mouse!

    • Written by from Berkeley

I have no idea why it is that Apple can be such a pioneer in technology, and yet they can't make a decent mouse. From the moment I bought it, it was jumpy and difficult to use, and the touch surface stopped working after about 2 months. Next time, I'm definitely going to get the wireless trackpad.

Looks nice but don't use it at work

    • Written by from Hornsby

Sadly, this mouse is triumph of form over function. Looks great, but is such a piece of junk, at least in an office environment where other Bluetooth devices may be operating nearby.

I had to replace the batteries every 4-5 weeks, even when I switched it off before going home at night.

Even on nearly new batteries, several times a day it would lose the Bluetooth connection to the iMac just a foot away. (The stock iMac keyboard is nearly as bad as the mouse in this respect.)

If Apple made a wired version I would consider it, but wireless is a waste of money.

    wireless intereference

    • Written by from EL CERRITO

We have an airport extreme base station, and I found that when using this bluetooth wireless mouse, the WIFI kept losing the signal. Like every couple of minutes. Even though I had it set to automatically join known networks, it kept just dropping the signal, then I had to go select our home network and tell it to join manually, truly a pain. It turns out that even Apple's support site mentions the possibility of signal interference between these products. Duh.
I went back to using a wired mouse, which solved the WIFI signal issue, but for some odd reason, Apple's wired mouse only comes with a 29 inch cord, which is barely long enough to go around the back and into the USB ports, which are on the left of the MacBook.

One of the worst mouse ever

    • Written by from Pescara

    It's expensive and poor quality.
This is not an Apple product ... it's just stylish, glamourous ... but low quality!
Any cheap Logitech mouse is better than this mouse.
It often loose the bluetooth connection, multi touch gesture is not ergonomic.
Must cost 15USD ... no more.
    Shame of you

    Horrible Reliability

    • Written by from San Francisco

When it works, it is magic. But mine rarely works. And this is the second one I've had. It just isn't reliable. It loses its connection constantly. And it will just turn itself off in the middle of an action.

    I Hate This Thing

    • Written by from Honolulu

I have to use one of these for work and I have come to hate it with an unreasonable passion. It is hard to use for 8 hours, and by the end of the day my wrist and hand ache. It's basically a cool looking torture device.

    Don't by the Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Plano

Save the money and buy a good USB mouse. Just look on the forums and you will see this is a poorly designed mouse with many flaws. A mouse is one of those basic devices that must have complete durability and reliability. This mouse has none of them.

I'm surprise the Apple keeps peddling this "mouse trap."

Terrible battery life and erratic, unpredictable mouse movements.

    • Written by from Coatesville

Battery life is about 2 weeks normal usage on mine. The page keeps moving side to side without warning, most of the time losing the page altogether. Very frustrating, it does this if I just nudge the mouse by mistake, sometimes without touching it at all! And if I am on the internet this is a unacceptable, sometimes losing my page and a site altogether!!!. My friends have the same problem. I do not remember this being this bad on my old Mighty Mouse which just quit after 2 years. Maybe this is worsened by Lion? I had hoped the battery thing would be fixed, but it hasn't. This is not a mouse you want to buy nor is the wireless keyboard I threw away. Blue Tooth has problems at Apple! Is this static electricity?

    1. You have SWEATY palms (hours of work will make ur hands slightly sweaty that u will hate to use the scroll feature!)

    2. Very sensitive, like ur skating bare foot on ice! (moves u to another page with the slightest accidental touch)

    3. Its bottom skates ONLY move on smooth SOLID surfaces. (i sometimes use my mouse on the couch..or anywhere i am sitting)

    4. Heavy!

    5. Painful for MS Office users.

    Annoying

    • Written by

There are times I really like it, it scrolls easily throughout most Word documents. If you remember to turn it off each night, the batteries will probably last longer for you--I always forget. It is just AWFUL in Excel (I am using Office 2011) as well as in two of our in-house database programs. The slightest touch, the lightest breath, and it flies through these software packages and I have to scroll back to where I was only to have it jump forward again immediately. It won't sit long inside a cell--it just doesn't like Excel. I have set it to slow down as much as I can, and this hasn't helped. It's like driving on black ice. Given my enthusiasm when I took it out of the box, I now have to say I hate it.
