Logic is still great, but Apple MUST improve it!

    • Written by from Petach Tikva

Right now, there are two main missing features, which make the workflow pretty difficult under Logic 9:
    1. The ability to change the gain of an audio event on the arrangement, without automation or process (just by dragging down a line - as in Cubase)
    2. VariAudio-like feature - It's a shame that Logic doesn't have this engine! Why we should use Melodyne for such a basic feature? give us the ability to correct pitch as midi notes please!

By adding these features Logic can be perfect.
BTW I hope you'll include some virtual guitar, bass, piano and drums as you did on Garageband for iPhone and iPad, but more professionally (more playing samples and variations), on the next version of Logic.
Since Steinberg discontinued their Virtual Guitarist and Virtual Bassist series, there is a serious lack of rhythm guitar virtual instruments in the market. Apple - take care of us musicians - we are very loyal customers!

Waiting for Logic 10! (no serious update since 2009, come on!)

    Great for Production

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Logic's strong suit is in production, with its vast array of great sounding loops and instruments. At its price point it is definitely the most complete and powerful DAW around. It does however have several problems. Logic's editing features are slow and clunky (aside from its excellent comping features) and working audio post-production is a chore with Logic. Logic's mixer is pretty illogical (where are the double pan knobs?) and there are several annoying quirks which makes you lose a lot of time throughout the day. Overall, it is a great buy if you are a musician, producer or do a lot of production but if you work with audio post production ProTools is still the king.

I've used many..Logic is THE best.

The tightness of an akai mpc, a sophisticated yet simple interface and the infinite power of an entire state of the art recording/mastering studio @ your fingertips. Any modern recording facility without Logic Studio is...illogical.

    Bang for the buck

    • Written by from Elizabethtown

For the price, it's hard to beat how exhausting Logic's features are. Coming from an audio (as opposed to MIDI or software instrument) perspective, I've been impressed with how extensive Logic's editing features are. I've been delighted with the ungodly amount of very good plugins and samples that come with it. I'm also thrilled to have automatic latency compensation with plugins, an easy way to disable latency -inducing plugins when recording and using software monitoring. It doesn't suffer from the limitations of ProTools LE like limited track count, limited number of inputs and having to compensate for latency manually.

My only qualms are some minor glitches while dragging regions, automation sometimes not playing back properly and a few sluggish UI instances.

By and large however, I highly recommend this software. I don't think I would go back to ProTools, even if I could afford ProTools HD.

    The Legacy

    • Written by

Being a user of the orignal Atari 1040st/Creator/Emagic(whichever) and also Nuendo/Pro Tools/Sonar/Samplitude etc. I had no idea that Logic was the aftermath of that great program (Creator) that got me where i needed to be! I was lost for yrs! I used all the above with great focus and many tedious hrs/plugins to get THAT SOUND. I used logic for about 2-3 weeks and i dont feel the need to use a plugin?!......lol I mean the ease i had back in 90s with Creator, still exists with this program! SALUTE!

The guitar tones steal the show

    • Written by from LOS ANGELES

As a guitar player by trade, I'm thrilled with the new amp models. Amazing tones, and responsiveness. I've also noticed that it operates a lot faster. Opening existing projects takes half the time it used to, which is obviously impressive. Flex-time is very cool, too.

That said, I do agree with another reviewer that the full-on version 9 upgrade seems like a bit premature... Seems that they could have worked a lot of things under the version 8 umbrella before unleashing the ninja blow of 9. Also, I've been screaming for two years about the lack of a coherent, accessible Tap Tempo function, and an Arpeggiator that doesn't require going into the Environment. My torment continues. I also wouldn't mind seeing it get a minor facelift. Seems that the interface could be cleaned up a bit, though I understand the magnitude of the task, seeing as how the software does so much.

Despite these quibbles, it is an awesome piece of software. Highly recommended!

    Limitless Potential.

    • Written by from West Sussex

I am an Logic Studio Master, I have been using logic for many years and have been very impressed with the developments thus far. I was one of the first to receive my copy of Logic Studio 9, and so far I am happy to report that it has a very refreshing number of improvements. I do understand that Apple are anxious to re-create many of the functions of their immediate competitor (i.e. Digidesign) and so far they have done a great job.

The new flex architecture will allow even talentless musicians/producers to create in-time and well crafted mixes. The new guitar amp and cab system is also a very nice feature, coming from a guitarist who wouldn't touch guitar amp pro. I am however fairly disappointed with the price and I'm not sure that it need to go up a whole number (8 - 9) instead maybe just an update. (8.4!)

I am impressed with their latest release and I look forward to Logic Studio 10!
