long time logic users please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have been producing music on logic since before Apple acquired it from the previous developer.

I purchased Logic Pro 7 from Apple for $1000, and i have since spent another $500+ in "upgrades" to get to the current format of logic Pro 9. Shortly after my reluctant upgrade from 8 to 9, Apple released a promotional price of $300 for the entire program. That is just a little more than I paid to upgrade. Still no discount for upgrades though. In short loyal long time customers have now paid over $1,500.00 to get a $300 program. A slight kick in the pants for its Pro oriented customers. As a pro user you can add 7 computers, 4 iphones, 3 ipads and some ipods to that shopping cart as well.

In that time I have watched Apple drop Key production features out of Logic in order to make room for programming codes that dumb down the DAW interface and create undesired glitches within the frame of what was an excellent platform from Emagic.

Now that Mac has solidified its abandonment of the professional grade market by dropping the mac pro and pretty much all R&D for Logic as well, I find myself more and more disappointed with logics performance. Another product that has let go of functionality for aesthetics.

I have, in fact, spent well over 40 hours reverting and reformatting my system back to Snow Leopard (very difficult as Mac firmware no longer supports reverse compatibility) but also reverting logic to a version of LP9 that is stable within that operating system. I had to do this as there is no version of LP9 that works properly in any operating system after SL.

OS 10.6.8 + Logic 9.1.6/7 is the most stable combo that will run on intel based Mac. Trust me.. I tried the rest. I would prefer to go back to logic pro 7 but once again No reverse compatibility.

Hopefully the 2software developers... Yes two... still working on logic will at least make it stable again so we can finish our mixes and move to another software manufacturer.

Sorry Mac but after years of total loyalty you left me and the Professional market out in the cold.

    THERE IS NO MANUAL!!!

Ok, I've been using Logic for over a year or so now, and I'm very comfortable working with it. However, the sheer depth of the program is still well beyond the scope of what I've used it for and I regularly find myself reading thru the PDF manual of Logic 8, learning new thing as I encounter the need for them. The PDF manual was always easy to find what I needed, and I could scroll up or down and learn new things closely related to what I was doing at that moment.

Now there is only a stupid "Help File", which is pretty much USELESS/POINTLESS because I DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO READ CASUALLY/DISCOVER! I should NOT have to purchase a book from a 3rd party, watch online training videos, or NEED to troll forums to learn the functions of the program I'm trying to use! Maybe I'm a weirdo, but SOMETIMES I actually PRINT sections, that are interesting or helpful, so that I can have them to read somewhere more comfortable.

How hard is it REALLY, to update an existing manual with necessary changes? The bulk of Logic is STILL the same, so I'm going to find a way to use the old manual as much as possible and hope they at least post it online for download. I'd also LOVE to comment on the new features, but I REFUSE to look elsewhere for that information, and I just don't know enough from watching product demos to ACTUALLY USE THEM PROPERLY!

    Not compatible with Mountain Lion

I've been a logic user for 8 years but I've never had so many problems as now. Logic has become extremely slow and unresponsive (up to 3 minutes). Also, all third party plug ins make it even slower and unusable. This means thousands of dollars on additional software which I have no access to.

I've always been a fan of Logic, but this takes that love away. I've had these issues for 2 months and no reals solutions. My counsel: #1 don't buy logic until all problems with Mountain Lion are fixed. #2 if you must have a DAW now, look somewhere else.

If I could give it NO stars I would

Paid $500 dollars for this program for the Soundtack Pro element to produce my podcast. DO NOT PURCHASE!!! multiple crashes, dysfunctional, and unreliability -- lost work, lost time, etc. You never know whether you will get the swirling beachball of death at any time and lose all work. Multiple online sources say Apple is moving away from this product and is no longer investing -- but they don't tell you that when taking your $500!!! If you want to edit audio, use Adobe Audition. STAY AWAY FROM SOUNDTRACK PRO!

    My nightmare

It looks cool with all the effects and so on but after really working with it I hate myself I have not got something really proffesional. E.g. wave editing is horrible. The graphic reproduction is bad, you never get this nice thin line to cut, it always goes back out of zoom when switching windows and zooming in is bulky as all the rest of the operations. Everything is so miniature you can't even see it. I fight the software more then I work with it. It is a real nightmare for me. As the whole Apple/Mac experience actually.

5 years on and apple still think we've all got the vision of a hawk.. I mean just try the software on a hi res macbook pro - you must be kidding me!!! I'm still having to use another DAW till apple finally admits that all it's pro software has text that is too tiny!!!....... What a waste. I've noticed that almost everyone I know who uses apple software needs glasses. If they don't when they buy the software they soon will do!!!......

My ears are ringing from blast of white noise from Logic 9

    • Written by from virginia

NEVER had this happen in Logic 8 (or any other software for that matter) on same hardware.. Not only can you not OPEN Logic 9 by clicking on a logic 9 file, SAVE in Logic 9 without it putting audio out of sync, now I discover you cannot RECORD for more than a few minutes without getting a blast of white noise. Seriously, my ears are still ringing 8 hours later from this noise. If they are still ringing Monday I am going to the hearing specialist and Apple WILL be paying the bill. I pray no serious damage has been done and that I will still be able to do mastering work. If I monitor through Logic, even at 128 the monitored audio will occasionally slip out of sync and there will be like a 2 second delay in the monitored audio, then eventually a deafening blast of white noise. To release software in this untested state is totally negligent, irresponsible and downright dangerous. Disgraceful.
As a longtime Apple owner (since 1986), I have to say I'm disappointed with the way things are going these days. The company seems less responsive when it comes to fixing minor glitches as well as serious problems. I spent $200+ to upgrade to Logic 9 and Snow Leopard. Several months have now passed, and that combo still doesn't work for me. I'm stuck with using Logic 8. In fact, I tried to reinstall Tiger to regain some stability, but it won't let me go backwards without running a clean install. I wish someone at Apple would take notice and fix these issues.

    Un- intuitive

Horrible work flow if you're working with real audio, un-intuitive design. If you're working with loops it's average but get into any editing and the layout is just plain stupid.
Great soft synths and amp emulators but extremely poor layout.
Seems to me the people writing the software need spend some time recording a live band and being creative instead of programing. Logic kills the creative process.
