    Terrible lifespan

    • Written by from Encinitas

This has got to be the worst battery Apple has sold that I can recall. I have 20+ users who use the MacBookPros with these batteries and maybe a few of them have done the monthly calibration. The thing is, it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference. I have replaced ALL the batteries for these laptops. Most of them were replaced after 1 year while some were replaced after 6 month of use. Terrible.

    Awful product, awful service

    • Written by from Appomattox

I have been exceedingly frustrated with Apple and their inability to produce a good battery. It is even more frustrating how difficult and expensive it is for me, a customer, to replace a poorly made battery. I ordered another battery and will not see it for several months, AFTER paying extra to get it here in two days! It is my understanding that a good business produces all quality products and owns up to any mistakes, taking care of their customers. Apple, I feel like I might be done with your products after my next battery dies (which it will).

    Awful

    • Written by from Las Vegas

I have had this laptop for about a year and a half and I am already replacing the battery. I can find the previous model of Macbook Pro batteries in abundance at every Apple Store I have been to, yet this battery is sold out everywhere and it is on a 2 to 3 week backorder. I think that speaks volumes to the dependability of this product. The battery in my old Macbook Pro lasted 3 years. The poor quality of the new Macbook Pro batteries is simply unacceptable. It is doubly unacceptable given how difficult it is to even get your hands on one. Now I am stuck using the power cable for the next 3 weeks until I can get a new battery; not really helpful when you are using the laptop for business. Great job Apple!

Horrible Battery = class action suit?

    • Written by from Anytown

I've seen a lot of reviews about this battery that sound like the experience I had so I'll add my $0.02. I've had my MBP for 16 months (16-18 seems to be the range of life for this battery.) The worst part about it is, all of my local Apple stores don't carry this model (or they're all sold out because I'm not the only one???) If I had known this battery would last me 16 months, I would be using something else. This sounds like a flaw in design or manufacturing that Apple should make right. We'll see if they do something about it, but I'm not holding my breath.

    lame battery life

    • Written by from san jose

bought a refurb mbp with a brand new battery 17 months ago and already i have to replace the battery, says the genius bar. didn't use the battery that much until the last 6 months. pretty lame that apple doesn't make a more reliable battery. *middle-finger*

the genius bar said they can replace the batter for $99. asked about the warranty on the battery and was told 90 days. then i was told i would get a 12 month warranty on a battery purchased online or off the shelf in the store. lame.

so now i have to shell out $129.00 on a brand new battery that will probably last about another 17 months of less than average use. lame.

    Disappointing!

    • Written by from Grapevine

Original Battery lost charge capacity pretty fast and was totally done after just 18 month.
Now my brand new original Apple Battery is discharged before a 90 min movie is over.
It's giving me a bit over a hour. The charging capacity goes down very fast, from 4800mAh to 4600mAh after just 3 charging cycles.
Weak for $129, only the price shows its Apple, not the performance.

    Uncharged suddenly

    • Written by from Ames

i met a problem. The Icon showed 95% and Power Adapter when I charged it all the time it maintained 95% for many hours but suddenly it showed uncharged and the light turned from green to yellow then it showed 1% and charged again to 100% in 3 hours.
    I do not know why?
    Thank you.

Didn't last more than 18 months, but...

    • Written by from Edmonton

My MacBook Pro is 18 months old and the battery started failing about a month ago. To be honest, my battery life management is pretty bad so I kind of expected it. I just rolled into an Apple store and they ran a diagnostic confirming my suspicion that the battery was dying, but not totally dead. What's terrific is that the Genius Bar guy replaced the battery for free under warranty - which is technically expired. Terrific service and this will keep me coming back to Apple for products for a long time.

    MBP battery

    • Written by from Whitehorse

I got the MBP Aluminun battery for my wife a couple of months ago. Apple advertises 8-9 hrs, She barely gets 3 hrs on her Mac. She does mostly Word and Web. She does not do graphically intense applications on it unplugged. The main reason for this purchase was the long battery life, so far. could not even go 3 hrs without it needing to be recharged. My old Acer laptop (18.4) runs longer....My appreciation of Apple quality has diminished somewhat. I would recommend, unless necessary, to use plugged in always.

    Bad built and disappointing performance!

    • Written by from San Jose

After two years of use, i can't barely get a 2 hour use - thats with bluetooth off, set to better battery life and with the display brightness half way down. What's worse, the battery has started to bulge in the middle! A complete rip off!

Giving problems just after 1 year and 2 months

    • Written by from Somerset

    Very Disappointed!
Now I understand why the warranty on the battery is one year.
It started giving problems about 1 year and 2 months after I bought my Mac Book Pro.
When it reached 1 year and 6 months I noticed the icon, "Service Battery".
I took it to the store, they ran the Apple Diagnostic toolkit and it showed that it is a battery defect.

Then the good news. Even thou it is a defect I have to buy a new one since the warranty is just one year, but the new battery has a 2 year warranty.

I wonder why the new one has 2 years and the one that came with the laptop had just 1 year.

    You take your conclusions.

    Slim but prone to swelling

    • Written by from Mountain View

Obviously, the battery fits nicely in the body of the new MBPs. However, I've had mine for a couple years and a while ago the bottom plate covering the battery started to bulge out. It was annoying, but since I use my MBP more like a desktop I didn't care very much. I assumed the cover had somehow become warped.

Eventually, I found out that it was actually the battery which was pushing on the cover. It had become swollen and eventually put so much pressure on the mouse pad that the computer thought it was in a constant state of 'click'. Pretty lame problem, pretty expensive fix.

    Poor Lifespan

    • Written by from Peterborough

The battery called it quits just outside (a month or two) of my 1yr hardware warranty. Yes, I am very frustrated as to the performance of this battery. I properly maintained the battery and monitored its health. (this is not my first hardware failure with apple - seems to be frequent - hoping this changes).

Phone support as always tries their best, but often is bound by policy. It really is disappointing to see when things are defective (clearly) that Apple does not empower them to make things right (properly).

I purchased a new battery either way, as I need a functioning portable computer.

All the previous "good" reviews seem to be people that are talking about different batteries/hardware then the unibodies. These batteries will last on average 'just past' their warranty period (go figure?!?!)

Apples new 'built-in' battery might be a response to this issue, but we'll never know.

Bought new in December 2008, already the battery still shows charge, but the seam on the unibody is bulging and the battery needs to be replaced. HELLO...SAFETY issue!

Not happy, but there is 150 bucks...

    Swollen in a year

    • Written by from Westford

I have only had my mid-2009 MacBook Pro for about a year, and the battery is swollen! I calibrated it every month like Apple suggests and it still swelled up. For a battery of this price, it should last more than a year.

15 months, that's all it took

    • Written by from Bristol

I only use my macbook for 4hrs/day since I have a desktop that i use more often. Now the capacity has gone from 4600 to 172mAh. And i thought that Mac batteries were supposed to be more efficient. $130 for a battery is too expensive... especially if i have to buy one every 15 months

    so far it's okay

    • Written by from Marseilles

I have gotten a MacBook Pro that was released late August of 2008 and so far, the battery of it was fine. At first it did last long as 7 or 8 hrs... and that's just surfing the internet with music playing. My screen is dimmed to the lowest setting and when it's dark and they lit up very brightly once another light source is turned on and I had to lower its brightness back down to 1 notch. Only time I end up draining the battery easily is when I play a game like TheSims3, that takes a lot of power to play even Spore does that too. WoW, it's fine. This MacBook Pro that I gotten was from a school that bought the MacBook Pros because the students are require to have one if in graphic design or something else. Other degrees uses windows laptops. I was impressed that this lasts much longer than a windows laptop since most at the time only stay on up to 2.5 hrs to 3hrs max. Now I'm not sure, I really do want to keep this one alive its just that once in awhile, with 24 or 27% of life is left as it discharges, it just dies instantly. It's either the battery isnt well or its the firmware of the hardware in the macbook pro. I check on my battery's life by using an app called coconutbattery. designed for macbooks and macbook pros to give you the life of your battery and stuff. It's just odd that it suddenly shuts itself off with 54 mins left of battery run before it needs to be charged again. It doesn't happened often just once in every 3 or 5 months it does that. Honestly I really like my macbook pro and I grew up with apple computers until 7th grade when I was force to use windows which still not fond of. OS of the mac sure has changed since I used apple ii as a kid. Anyhow, it still runs long and strong for me to this day. ^__^
