    Not Pleased

    • Written by from Jonesboro

Bought my 15-inch (Aluminum) MacBook Pro in April 2011 and now I am getting a warning to completely replace my battery in November 2012. Average usage is about 4 to 6 hours, 3 to 4 days per week. I never got the number of hours that the battery was suppose to operate on with a single charge. Come-on APPLE you can do better than that, if you claim that your product can perform at a certain level (7 hours on a signal charge) that is what I expect, not 4 hours. Life expectancy for your batteries is never clearly stated, please start developing a 10 hour, 2 year use no matter how much you use your MacBook Pro. Remember companies like Samsung want to out sale, out develop, and out perform you, APPLE. Look what they did with there Smartphones!

    Battery life

    • Written by from Seattle

We've had mixed success but have not been dissatisfied. We bought our MBP in 2006, since then we've had two new batteries, but Apple replaced both of them for free. Once we were, told at the retail store, to let our battery discharge completely once each month but it was okay to leave the Pro tethered to the power cord as the MBP would automatically switch from DC to AC when the battery was full. We've also been advised to leave it untethered and plug it in only to charge because after a finite number of charging cycles the battery life would decrease. Throughout all this, we've had the same AC power adapter, which finally went TU today. The battery life was better while the machine was newer and we were leaving it plugged in. Too many variables to tell what is the "right" thing to do, but h*ll it's been five years on this MBP, and we've not spent any money on it -- other than applecare. So, were not dissatisfied, even as I'm on my way to buy another AC adapter and battery or . . . a new Mac Book Pro.

    Brutal Battery Life

    • Written by from Edmonton

My old battery was only getting about one hour of work in between charges, so I changed it yesterday. Improved to a whopping 1.5 hours, for a grand total of $150! Was promised at least 5 hours. Super disappointed.

    Horrible batteries

    • Written by from Simi Valley

I bought my macbook pro 15" unibody in 2009, and I have gone through 2 apple batteries, and I now have to buy a third. Seems ridiculous to me. My dell battery lasted over 3 years! I paid 3x the amount for this laptop, and they won't ever replace the batteries. So another $129? That's some expensive maintenance for a 2k laptop. Not happy.

    bad product from apple...

    • Written by from Johns Creek

I own 2 Acer laptops (I3) bought each at $599. They are being heavily used by my kids on daily basis but its battery still work like it is advertised.

But sadly, i have paid more than $2000 for this Mac Book Pro (i7), and used almost 70% of what my kids used the laptops. And all of sudden it stopped charging the battery and the OS says it need to be replaced. If we have to pay almost 4 times the prices for getting this junk then why do we need a Mac? Isn’t that to make the Apple's top officials wallet lot bigger?

The fact is that my i3 laptops are way faster than this i7 mac book pro, it takes forever to boot and/or open any app, even after upgrading the memory to 8GB. They're giving you the 5400rpm hard drive. If Apple is putting all the cheapest hardware in the system and making the external case look pretty then what is the point of Apple? Attract the customers based on look and not by the performance? PC works lot better than this Mac these days... Apple messed up in the Mac as well as in iPhones... Why in the world you go backward Apple because we trust in you too much?

Common Apple, I think you can do lot better to make your valuable customers satisfied if not happy. Put some good parts in your products that are reliable...

    Battery for MBP

    • Written by from Oakland

I have my 1st gen. 15 in MBP all-aluminum unibody (w/ black keyboard) since 2008. Now 5 years later, I've consistently had 3 to 3.5 hrs use out of 1 single charge. Lately the battery warning came on, and I've been procrastinating on getting a new one. One day I let the battery completely drained overnight and the next day the MBP would not wake up, the screen stay completely black, with or without the AC adapter plugged in, with or with the battery removed and AC connected.

I took it to Apple Genius Bar (Emeryville) Marie got it working again (bless her heart!) and today the same problem recurred. I've had my fill with this battery, so I'm not complaining. I'll take Marie's advice though: "Next time if it happens again you need to buy a new battery." Sure, I will have to fork out 130 big American dollars and forego buying a lot of rice with that amount!

    Works Fine

    • Written by from rochester

Other people may say that the battery life isn't perfect but I say that its outstanding considering the fact that I'm still on the original battery after two years and over 885 cycles. It still holds well over two hours of charge. The battery is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

    Everyone needs to relax

    • Written by from Cerritos

The battery is a finite product. Apple clearly states that the battery will hold less of a charge after the 300-400 charge/discharge cycles. If you use your computer everyday, thats like maybe a year to a year and a half. Don't go discounting all of Apple just because this clearly expected degradation happens. Everyone's usage style is different, therefore performance will differ from person to person. The expected battery life is stated under half screen brightness, and web-browsing. I give this product a 5 star rating because it performs as it is advertised.

    Unacceptable battery

    • Written by from Brandon

I decided to try out the Mac products and bit the bullet to pay the extra cost in order to see what all the Mac hype was about. My Battery used to be awesome and lasted 7 hours before recharge. I was excited and thought MAC made the most excellent battery, but now that my battery has hit 204 cycles it has gone to $!ht and won't last an hour. Now I find out from all the other Mac Pro users that all Mac batteries are carp, and I just got lucky for a short time. I used to think it might just be worth it to pay more for a Mac but no more. I'm done. I have lost faith in the product and the company. Bye, bye, back to PC.

    Pretty Good

    • Written by from Madison

Despite all the negative reviews you really can get a lot of years out of these batteries. I had my MBP with the original battery for over five years and was still getting between 2-3 hours of use out of it per charge. It finally started swelling a little and the trackpad stopped working so I just bought a new one.

I work in a large education environment providing IT support. Yes, after enough time these batteries can swell. However, it's typically well beyond their expected life span (4-5 years in most cases) and no, Apple's batteries aren't unique in this aspect, we see it in the Dell laptops too.

If you compare this to the new laptops you're going to be disappointed as you won't get as many charges and the battery won't last as long. However, if you compare it to it's competition at the time the laptop was made (remember these were released in 2008) they were very good. And when you install enough RAM and an SSD, the machine is still pretty usable...

    Ready for my second replacement

    • Written by from Grosse Pointe Farms

The stock battery that came with the computer held its advertised (8hr) charge for about a month or two, then slowly began losing charge and overheating to the point that the battery swelled inside its compartment and was not longer usable. I replaced that battery a little over a year ago and and now finding myself in the exact same predicament.

Not even a single star to this awful battery, but in order to publish this review I had to give one star!!!. Overpriced and the charge doesn't last for more than two hours. I can't believe Apple is charging $130 bucks for a piece of hardware that has such a terrible performance. Apple should do something. It is not fair for me to pay such a high price for a mistake done by Apple with this battery!!!. In three years I already changed the battery twice and right now I'm going for a third one!! Not Fair!! They should at least lower the price of this battery. And the worst, MB's don't turn on without a battery even when they are plugged in.

What are all the gripes about?

    • Written by from GAINESVILLE

I'm not sure how different people are using there battery, frequent partial drains, incomplete full charges or what. I'm not a super-concientious user but I do try to keep my machine plugged in when possible and am very impressed with the consistency of the battery life (relative to past Dell's) and endurance. CoconutBattery 2.6.6 application says that my battery is at 97% of it's original capacity after 11 months of use and 94 load-cycles. Not bad in my opinion.

    Terrible Battery!

    • Written by from Bend

Like many have said before, my battery and my wife's battery has swollen til the point where the track pad isn't working. They're both about 4 years old. I have our MBs plugged in and removed the batteries. Works fine without the batteries, Really is terrible to have to keep them plugged in all the time. Hopefully Apple will resolve this issue.

Going strong after almost two years

    • Written by from Haedo

Nevermind all the people here trashing this battery, they seem to not know anything about how to maintain it and take proper care of it. Discharge the battery twice a month and it'll keep on going for several years. I'm using a late 2008 MBP (the first Unibody ones), almost two years and at 145 cycles, it holds 94% of the original capacity (4333 mAh out of 4600). I'll definitely buy a second one when this one reaches 65%, but it seems it wont for a loooong time.
