    Poor battery life

    • Written by from TWENTYNINE PALMS

I've had my laptop just over a year, and my battery is already at less that 20% health. And no, I'm not over 300 cycles. I'm at around 180.

    Battery fail.

Why haven't I talked to apple care? I was cheap and only had a one-year warranty. Fail on my part. Wish I had read these reviews sooner.

    Everyone needs to relax

    • Written by from Cerritos

The battery is a finite product. Apple clearly states that the battery will hold less of a charge after the 300-400 charge/discharge cycles. If you use your computer everyday, thats like maybe a year to a year and a half. Don't go discounting all of Apple just because this clearly expected degradation happens. Everyone's usage style is different, therefore performance will differ from person to person. The expected battery life is stated under half screen brightness, and web-browsing. I give this product a 5 star rating because it performs as it is advertised.

12-14 months total life, max. Useless now, so I have to spend $129 on another, because what choice do I have? Total fail on Apple's part.

    13 Month Batery Life???????

    • Written by from Westport

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! So many of us have sunk thousands upon thousands of our very hard earned money into Apple Products over the years. And in return, we get a battery that lasts 13 months (like mine) and the ONLY solution or customer service is for us to buy another battery??? ALREADY?? And for $133.00?? You have got to be joking! Come on APPLE... This is truly unjust!

    Very displeased

    • Written by from Verona

OK I knew I had to get a new battery after 300 cycles, so a put out the cash for a new 100% healthy battery. I calibrate and guess what? It is worse that the one I have had for almost 2 years. It's as if these replacement batteries are lower quality versions than the ones that come with the laptop. Very unhappy. I still love my MBP, but this stings.

    • Written by from Middleton

I think these batteries are amazing! I have had my laptop for few years and the battery through getting Diet Coke spilled on it and after that the battery stopped working for a while but it still worked afterwards. This is the first time I have ever had to replace a battery.

Fan running loudly, not always the battery's fault.

    • Written by from Andover

So I thought my fan was running a lot to charge my battery, so I bought a new battery when the Apple Support told me to learn how to use my battery better... (thanks guys).

I found a post somewhere saying to check all of your running applications in Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor. I selected to see all activities and there was a printer driver taking up 99% of my CPU processing. It was a Lexmark wireless printer driver.

Just FYI in case you are desperate to stop your loud fan and think it's your battery going out. Hopefully it's not.

Don't waste your money or time

    • Written by from Madison

I needed a replacement battery because my original will barely hold a charge. I read the reviews here and hoped they were wrong, they're not! I was careful to ensure I swapped them out correctly and gave it a full charge before each use. I also reset the power settings to factory setting. I also used "Clean my Mac" to make sure everything was ok.

At 100% battery, reading email and using the internet I was at 10% power in 2 hours 20 minutes. My old battery works better than this one.

Apple if your listening do something!!! I love your stuff we have 6 iPods, 3 iPads, 2 MacBooks and 1 20" iMac. I expect more quality than this...

    Don't expect much.

    • Written by from North Muskegon

I've had my MacBook Pro for a little over two years and the battery needs to be replaced already. I'm lucky to get two hours of use; I average at 90 minutes or so of just casual web browsing. Forget it if you try to edit pictures or run Photoshop. I've learned that if I have 50% battery charge left, then I have about 50 minutes of use remaining. You'd think it would charge as fast as it dies, but nope. It can take hours to fully charge if you're using the computer while its plugged in. Just ridiculous.

An AWFUL battery. I'd say "do not buy", but really, there isn't much of a choice.

    Battery Malfunction

    • Written by from Davenport

My Macbook Pro is almost a year old and I can rarely leave it unplugged anymore. It will randomly shut down whenever it feels like it at any percent of charge. Like just now, this is my second time typing this out, because this laptop shut itself down at 81%. I use my Mac for everything, and I understand that there is some wear and tear that will happen on the battery.. but there is no reason this should happen after a year.. I'm extremely disappointed in the effort put into making better quality batteries. And of course, Technical support closed 30 minutes ago, so I can't even talk to them about how to get a new battery.. I really don't wanna pay $130 annually just to keep my Mac working, that's why I use Apple, because your stuff (usually) works. This is the first problem I've ever had and it's so frustrating. Watch your batteries Mac users!

BAttery life kinda sad, but there's an obvious solution...

    • Written by from Butler

Batteries, along with everything included in the box are covered under the protection plan. Did i go through 2 batteries? Yes. Was it a completely free swap out when I visited the store (the first time) and called apple care (The second time)? Absolutely.

    Lets be smart here folk.

    Horrible Lifespan

    • Written by from Santiago

I had the computer for a bit over a year and the battery hasn't even reached 500 cycles and now lasts less than half an hour. It seems that the only thing Apple hasn't nailed down is the battery issue. Offcourse its not like I could say "There is no way I'll buy another one" Because now I have no other choice but to buy another one in order to make my computer work.

batt. died but brought back to life

    • Written by from Saint Michael

After 14 months of ownership, the batt. started to only lasting a few minutes. This is what i did 1. On batt. power turn the computer on and let it run until it goes completely dead. 2. Take out the batt. and let it sit for at least 5 hour's. I let mine sit for about 12 hour's 3. Put the Batt. in and charge it completely, While charging do not turn on the computer just let it charge. This worked for me, I hope it work's for you. Good luck

    Terrible lifespan

    • Written by from Encinitas

This has got to be the worst battery Apple has sold that I can recall. I have 20+ users who use the MacBookPros with these batteries and maybe a few of them have done the monthly calibration. The thing is, it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference. I have replaced ALL the batteries for these laptops. Most of them were replaced after 1 year while some were replaced after 6 month of use. Terrible.

    Awful product, awful service

    • Written by from Appomattox

I have been exceedingly frustrated with Apple and their inability to produce a good battery. It is even more frustrating how difficult and expensive it is for me, a customer, to replace a poorly made battery. I ordered another battery and will not see it for several months, AFTER paying extra to get it here in two days! It is my understanding that a good business produces all quality products and owns up to any mistakes, taking care of their customers. Apple, I feel like I might be done with your products after my next battery dies (which it will).

    Awful

    • Written by from Las Vegas

I have had this laptop for about a year and a half and I am already replacing the battery. I can find the previous model of Macbook Pro batteries in abundance at every Apple Store I have been to, yet this battery is sold out everywhere and it is on a 2 to 3 week backorder. I think that speaks volumes to the dependability of this product. The battery in my old Macbook Pro lasted 3 years. The poor quality of the new Macbook Pro batteries is simply unacceptable. It is doubly unacceptable given how difficult it is to even get your hands on one. Now I am stuck using the power cable for the next 3 weeks until I can get a new battery; not really helpful when you are using the laptop for business. Great job Apple!

Horrible Battery = class action suit?

    • Written by from Anytown

I've seen a lot of reviews about this battery that sound like the experience I had so I'll add my $0.02. I've had my MBP for 16 months (16-18 seems to be the range of life for this battery.) The worst part about it is, all of my local Apple stores don't carry this model (or they're all sold out because I'm not the only one???) If I had known this battery would last me 16 months, I would be using something else. This sounds like a flaw in design or manufacturing that Apple should make right. We'll see if they do something about it, but I'm not holding my breath.
