    Works Fine

Other people may say that the battery life isn't perfect but I say that its outstanding considering the fact that I'm still on the original battery after two years and over 885 cycles. It still holds well over two hours of charge. The battery is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

    Everyone needs to relax

The battery is a finite product. Apple clearly states that the battery will hold less of a charge after the 300-400 charge/discharge cycles. If you use your computer everyday, thats like maybe a year to a year and a half. Don't go discounting all of Apple just because this clearly expected degradation happens. Everyone's usage style is different, therefore performance will differ from person to person. The expected battery life is stated under half screen brightness, and web-browsing. I give this product a 5 star rating because it performs as it is advertised.

I have 53 cycles and still get 7 hours out of my battery the original design capacity is 6900mAh now it is 6849mAh not bad after 10 months

    bad product from apple...

I own 2 Acer laptops (I3) bought each at $599. They are being heavily used by my kids on daily basis but its battery still work like it is advertised.

But sadly, i have paid more than $2000 for this Mac Book Pro (i7), and used almost 70% of what my kids used the laptops. And all of sudden it stopped charging the battery and the OS says it need to be replaced. If we have to pay almost 4 times the prices for getting this junk then why do we need a Mac? Isn’t that to make the Apple's top officials wallet lot bigger?

The fact is that my i3 laptops are way faster than this i7 mac book pro, it takes forever to boot and/or open any app, even after upgrading the memory to 8GB. They're giving you the 5400rpm hard drive. If Apple is putting all the cheapest hardware in the system and making the external case look pretty then what is the point of Apple? Attract the customers based on look and not by the performance? PC works lot better than this Mac these days... Apple messed up in the Mac as well as in iPhones... Why in the world you go backward Apple because we trust in you too much?

Common Apple, I think you can do lot better to make your valuable customers satisfied if not happy. Put some good parts in your products that are reliable...

Going strong after almost two years

Nevermind all the people here trashing this battery, they seem to not know anything about how to maintain it and take proper care of it. Discharge the battery twice a month and it'll keep on going for several years. I'm using a late 2008 MBP (the first Unibody ones), almost two years and at 145 cycles, it holds 94% of the original capacity (4333 mAh out of 4600). I'll definitely buy a second one when this one reaches 65%, but it seems it wont for a loooong time.

    Unacceptable battery

I decided to try out the Mac products and bit the bullet to pay the extra cost in order to see what all the Mac hype was about. My Battery used to be awesome and lasted 7 hours before recharge. I was excited and thought MAC made the most excellent battery, but now that my battery has hit 204 cycles it has gone to $!ht and won't last an hour. Now I find out from all the other Mac Pro users that all Mac batteries are carp, and I just got lucky for a short time. I used to think it might just be worth it to pay more for a Mac but no more. I'm done. I have lost faith in the product and the company. Bye, bye, back to PC.

What are all the gripes about?

I'm not sure how different people are using there battery, frequent partial drains, incomplete full charges or what. I'm not a super-concientious user but I do try to keep my machine plugged in when possible and am very impressed with the consistency of the battery life (relative to past Dell's) and endurance. CoconutBattery 2.6.6 application says that my battery is at 97% of it's original capacity after 11 months of use and 94 load-cycles. Not bad in my opinion.

    MacBook Pro Battery

I'm amazed at the number of folks that have issues with the MacBook Pro battery. I've had mine for over two years and still have 98%. I just follow the direction of reconditioning three times a year and that seems to give life to the battery. I also have the iMac 27", an iPad2, iPod Touch all of which I love.

I have gotten a MacBook Pro that was released late August of 2008 and so far, the battery of it was fine. At first it did last long as 7 or 8 hrs... and that's just surfing the internet with music playing. My screen is dimmed to the lowest setting and when it's dark and they lit up very brightly once another light source is turned on and I had to lower its brightness back down to 1 notch. Only time I end up draining the battery easily is when I play a game like TheSims3, that takes a lot of power to play even Spore does that too. WoW, it's fine. This MacBook Pro that I gotten was from a school that bought the MacBook Pros because the students are require to have one if in graphic design or something else. Other degrees uses windows laptops. I was impressed that this lasts much longer than a windows laptop since most at the time only stay on up to 2.5 hrs to 3hrs max. Now I'm not sure, I really do want to keep this one alive its just that once in awhile, with 24 or 27% of life is left as it discharges, it just dies instantly. It's either the battery isnt well or its the firmware of the hardware in the macbook pro. I check on my battery's life by using an app called coconutbattery. designed for macbooks and macbook pros to give you the life of your battery and stuff. It's just odd that it suddenly shuts itself off with 54 mins left of battery run before it needs to be charged again. It doesn't happened often just once in every 3 or 5 months it does that. Honestly I really like my macbook pro and I grew up with apple computers until 7th grade when I was force to use windows which still not fond of. OS of the mac sure has changed since I used apple ii as a kid. Anyhow, it still runs long and strong for me to this day. ^__^

I think these batteries are amazing! I have had my laptop for few years and the battery through getting Diet Coke spilled on it and after that the battery stopped working for a while but it still worked afterwards. This is the first time I have ever had to replace a battery.

    Mac Book Pro Battery Life

    • Written by from Melbourne

11 of 26 people found this useful

I don't know about you guys but i have had my Mac Book Pro for 4 years and am only now looking at replacing the battery. I know Apple doesn't have the best rep for battery life but for what an apple does, it does VERY VERY well. If you pay $130.00 and it last for 4 years, its worth it, but if it only lasts 18 months or so, its not that good. Apple might not have mastered battery life YET, but they have certainly mastered the software of a mac. just thought i'd let you know.
