    Disappointing!

    • Written by from Grapevine

Original Battery lost charge capacity pretty fast and was totally done after just 18 month.
Now my brand new original Apple Battery is discharged before a 90 min movie is over.
It's giving me a bit over a hour. The charging capacity goes down very fast, from 4800mAh to 4600mAh after just 3 charging cycles.
Weak for $129, only the price shows its Apple, not the performance.

    Expensive and poor-performance

    • Written by from Potomac

My MBP is almost 4 years old and runs on AC power 90% of the time. I'm about to purchase the 3rd battery, as it only holds ~1300 mAh after 157 charge cycles. I religiously follow the protocol each month, as well.

My theory is that the MBP runs very hot and can't dissipate the heat efficiently. As heat increases battery performance but shortens life by a factor of two for every 10°C increase above 25–30°C (18°F above 77–86°F), the effect is degradation.

If I hear Apple engineers snickering at my naive analysis, I challenge them to better explain their faulty design.

    13 Month Batery Life???????

    • Written by from Westport

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! So many of us have sunk thousands upon thousands of our very hard earned money into Apple Products over the years. And in return, we get a battery that lasts 13 months (like mine) and the ONLY solution or customer service is for us to buy another battery??? ALREADY?? And for $133.00?? You have got to be joking! Come on APPLE... This is truly unjust!

    Horrible Lifespan

    • Written by from Santiago

I had the computer for a bit over a year and the battery hasn't even reached 500 cycles and now lasts less than half an hour. It seems that the only thing Apple hasn't nailed down is the battery issue. Offcourse its not like I could say "There is no way I'll buy another one" Because now I have no other choice but to buy another one in order to make my computer work.

    Awful product, awful service

    • Written by from Appomattox

I have been exceedingly frustrated with Apple and their inability to produce a good battery. It is even more frustrating how difficult and expensive it is for me, a customer, to replace a poorly made battery. I ordered another battery and will not see it for several months, AFTER paying extra to get it here in two days! It is my understanding that a good business produces all quality products and owns up to any mistakes, taking care of their customers. Apple, I feel like I might be done with your products after my next battery dies (which it will).

    bulgy battery

    • Written by from Montréal

My Macbookpro is 3.5 years old. The battery had been still in perfect condition in March. Then during a long flight in April,I watched HD movies on my macbook pro, and after about 1.5 hours the battery started to swell and I was unable to use my touchpad.

Ever since then, then battery became worse and worse. Today, it is NOT possible any longer to charge it.

I am sure macbookpro's battery could swell in flight due to less air pressure, and that is not restorable.

    Very displeased

    • Written by from Verona

OK I knew I had to get a new battery after 300 cycles, so a put out the cash for a new 100% healthy battery. I calibrate and guess what? It is worse that the one I have had for almost 2 years. It's as if these replacement batteries are lower quality versions than the ones that come with the laptop. Very unhappy. I still love my MBP, but this stings.

battery life for 15-inch MacBook Pro

    • Written by from Amesbury

Love my computer, hate the battery. I have rarely taken my computer out of the house, and even more rarely run the computer on the battery alone. Both times have been on long airline flights. Very frustrating watching EVERYONE around you on their little Dell's gaming, playing movies, and generally having a great time while you sit with your MacBook Pro looking sleek and fine, providing about 45 minutes of battery life.
Have replaced the battery 3 times while under warranty and will have to replace again along with the power cord for the third time.

Give me liberty or give me better battery life, please!

    • Written by from Bartlesville

I just replaced my MacBook Pro battery. My system profiler indicated that my battery life was "poor" and I bought a new battery at the Apple store. Well, the life on this "new" battery is not much better. Rated as "good" in my system profiler, this replacement battery is not worth the $129 price tag. With a 100% charge and utilizing energy saver settings to increase battery life, I get 1 hour 27 minutes of time unplugged. I have drained, charged and tried again...just about the same. I have never owned anything but a Mac, please please please Apple give us a battery that has some staying power and really is worth the $129 we willing give you!

    Terrible

    • Written by from Sherman Oaks

Brand new out of the box, first charge, it gets 2.5 hours (on the better battery performance setting). This is unacceptable. For reference, I'm using the first generation unibody pro from 2008.

Replacing after 15 mos...bulging at the seams!

    • Written by from London

Bought new in December 2008, already the battery still shows charge, but the seam on the unibody is bulging and the battery needs to be replaced. HELLO...SAFETY issue!

Not happy, but there is 150 bucks...

So bad, I can't believe Apple sells it. Seriously.

This battery is horrendous. Please if you have any battery life left in your original battery, keep that instead. This battery is HOT, I mean really HOT to the point that my keyboard is sometimes very warm. An uncomfortable warm. So HOT that the fans run all the time, which makes the laptop very unpleasant to work on. I superbly recommend NOT BUYING THIS! Apple what are/were you thinking?

    Horrible swelling

    • Written by from APO

Had to replace the first battery because the old one swelled up so much I couldn't use the touch pad any more. The second one hasn't even lasted 6 months and now reports a "Service Battery" alarm. I'm happy with my MacBook Pro but I really wish there was another option for the battery.

I'm going to order a third battery for my MBP 5.1 That is one per year, the first one lasted 14 months the other 2 not quite as long, come on Apple get you battery problems fixed, it ridiculous having to buy a battery every year for a computer that is only used on battery power a couple of hours a week, the rest of the time it's always plugged in to AC power.

Excellent battery but dies off quickly and erratically towards EOL

    • Written by from Paterson

This is a standard battery for the older MacBook Pro's. To the people complaining about not getting 8 hours of battery life, you are confusing different models. Up until at least late 2008, the MacBook Pro's had removable batteries which lasted 3-4 hours (2-3 more realistically). Apple never advertised these as having 7-8 hours. The newer models with the non-removable batteries are capable of lasting 7 hours, give or take an hour. The fact that these newer models have much larger internal built-in batteries is the reason why they last that long.

    It's a battery, not a Mercedes!

    • Written by from BIG SKY

It's a battery, even if it IS an Apple battery. I got exactly two years out of the battery that came with my 15 inch MacBook Pro. I was dumb back then: I just forked out $99 and slapped in a new one. I got two and a half years out of that one and was only a little smarter: before forking out $129, I checked the system stats and discovered the fool thing only had 62 cycles on it! You can bet I have done some research and will be doing some cycling this time around! Maybe I can at least make it to three years on lucky number three battery? Even at this rate it was only about $3.30 a month for the second one.

    In my opinion

    • Written by from Baton Rouge

Once upon a time i believe I heard that these batteries can hold a charge longer than the original ones in 2008, which is my main reason for ordering one. I never got much time out of my battery but i also used my mbp constantly and intensively on high performance mode. i got about a two hours the first month then i never got more than an 1:30. just these past couple months my battery would only last for about 30 minutes. my battery got power cycled at least 3 times a week just from use, never on purpose, and usually more than once in a day. 830 cycles... id say i got good use out my 4 years, especially with how much i used it. never had any swelling either.

i think that most people probably leave their macbook charged all the time. thats not how batteries are supposed to be used. at least let them drain to 20% before you charge them again. if you leave your macbook plugged up all the time, what's the point of a battery? if you aren't using you macbook, dont charge it... keeping the battery charged with minimal use could definitely cause swelling... if i don't need it for a week, i don't charge it until i need it again. don't get me wrong, i leave mine plugged up sometimes for extended sessions but thats it.

i would like it to hold a charge for longer but thats the case with any battery. time to see if this battery is actually different.

12-14 months total life, max. Useless now, so I have to spend $129 on another, because what choice do I have? Total fail on Apple's part.

    lame battery life

    • Written by from san jose

bought a refurb mbp with a brand new battery 17 months ago and already i have to replace the battery, says the genius bar. didn't use the battery that much until the last 6 months. pretty lame that apple doesn't make a more reliable battery. *middle-finger*

the genius bar said they can replace the batter for $99. asked about the warranty on the battery and was told 90 days. then i was told i would get a 12 month warranty on a battery purchased online or off the shelf in the store. lame.

so now i have to shell out $129.00 on a brand new battery that will probably last about another 17 months of less than average use. lame.
