Wake up Apple! Hear the People!

    • Written by from Powell

I have to say, the worst experience I've ever had with batteries has been with Apple's MacBooks (AND iPHONES). I love my Mac... but completely despise their batteries. So much so that I'm almost tempted to switch back to a PC... honestly. I don't want to spend $130 every 6 months on an already expensive piece of hardware just to keep the battery life at a desirable state. I simply don't understand why Apple consistently chooses to cheapen their image by using batteries that fade away and die so incredibly quick. This is a pure indication of a cheap battery manufacturer. Apple, PLEASE, do yourselves a favor and easily correct this horrible reputation you have for batteries. It's simply not worth the negative publicity. People talk about it all the time when referencing your products. It's in craigslist postings, forums, reviews... the list goes on. Find yourselves a new manufacturer for the love of god. I've owned laptops that boast half of the battery life you claim to offer but last twice as long.

I bought this Unibody MacBook Pro I'm using ONLY about 4 months ago and already the battery literally lasts about 2 hours if I'm lucky. It doesn't have to be this way... do it now. Go find a new manufacturer for your batteries. It's simple. Save yourselves from this negative publicity. It will come back to bite you in the rear end if you don't fix it. The solution isn't simply building your batteries into the laptop. I deliberately chose not to go with the built in battery version of the laptop because I know your batteries all too well... not only would I have to replace my battery in 4 months, I'd have to be without my laptop for a while. Learn from your competition... their batteries ACTUALLY hold a charge. As a company Apple does many wonderful things but I feel like they can also make some very stupid choices sometimes. I hope Apple eventually realizes how important it is in the consumer's eye to have a laptop that's actually portable because it has a battery than can hold a charge while still offering the option to swap it for long trips. Apple, don't take my word on it, talk to your customers and ask them what they think about your batteries. Also your batteries in your phones wear out so fast-you should of at least made them "easily" replaceable with a snap off back cover and easy connectors...

    Brutal Battery Life

    • Written by from Edmonton

My old battery was only getting about one hour of work in between charges, so I changed it yesterday. Improved to a whopping 1.5 hours, for a grand total of $150! Was promised at least 5 hours. Super disappointed.

    Terrible Battery!

    • Written by from Bend

Like many have said before, my battery and my wife's battery has swollen til the point where the track pad isn't working. They're both about 4 years old. I have our MBs plugged in and removed the batteries. Works fine without the batteries, Really is terrible to have to keep them plugged in all the time. Hopefully Apple will resolve this issue.

    Ready for my second replacement

    • Written by from Grosse Pointe Farms

The stock battery that came with the computer held its advertised (8hr) charge for about a month or two, then slowly began losing charge and overheating to the point that the battery swelled inside its compartment and was not longer usable. I replaced that battery a little over a year ago and and now finding myself in the exact same predicament.

short life/had problems from the very first day

    • Written by from Woodstock

When I first got my laptop, the battery wouldn't last more than 3 hours. I had it check twice in a year and the test showed the battery is OK (so called GREEN zone). Battery started failing after a year, didn't last for more than half an hour for a while and now only 5-10 minutes max. I had so many issues during this 4 years with this MacBook Pro besides the battery ( I had to change the HD 3 times; the CD-ROM doesnt work for the past 2 years) but paying this much money for something that I know will fail again is outrageous. I have used my laptop almost as a stationery mac. I had to have it plugged in all the time and wouldn't buy this if the the power adapter was not failing; the pins have gotten loose and it wont work sometimes... VERY DISAPPOINTED... having to pay more than $50 for such a side product is too much.

Not even a single star to this awful battery, but in order to publish this review I had to give one star!!!. Overpriced and the charge doesn't last for more than two hours. I can't believe Apple is charging $130 bucks for a piece of hardware that has such a terrible performance. Apple should do something. It is not fair for me to pay such a high price for a mistake done by Apple with this battery!!!. In three years I already changed the battery twice and right now I'm going for a third one!! Not Fair!! They should at least lower the price of this battery. And the worst, MB's don't turn on without a battery even when they are plugged in.

Ditto every negative battery life thread here. The battery has never held the advertised 6-8 hours of charge and from about a year after ownership til now, the battery cannot hold a charge if it's disconnected from the power cable for more than a few minutes.

On a side note, it's a total joke that I've taken the time to write this, that you've taken the time to read this, and that Apple has allowed "product reviews" on these batteries to begin with. The fact of the matter is that virtually no one shops for a laptop battery unless their current one is dead; you are here because you NEED a battery. Your current Apple product has failed you and there is no recourse except to spend an exorbitant amount of money on this new product that experience and several hundred product reviews assure you will be no better than your last expensive mistake.

I have been an Apple fanatic for years and have long defended their products, but they really should own up to this design flaw and compensate their patrons accordingly. This product is horrible.

I've had my MBP since January 2009 and have had the battery replaced 3 times. It will barely last a full house if I'm ONLY doing normal web browsing. I can't afford to keep buying $129 batteries and them not work. I love Apple products, but this has GOT to be fixed!!!!

    Horrible batteries

    • Written by from Simi Valley

I bought my macbook pro 15" unibody in 2009, and I have gone through 2 apple batteries, and I now have to buy a third. Seems ridiculous to me. My dell battery lasted over 3 years! I paid 3x the amount for this laptop, and they won't ever replace the batteries. So another $129? That's some expensive maintenance for a 2k laptop. Not happy.

    15" MacBook Pro Battery

    • Written by from Longview

The MacBook Pro batteries are atrocious! I shelled out over $2000 for my MacBook Pro in 2009. I should not have to shell out another $130 for a battery in a years time. Or ever for that matter.

    bad product from apple...

    • Written by from Johns Creek

I own 2 Acer laptops (I3) bought each at $599. They are being heavily used by my kids on daily basis but its battery still work like it is advertised.

But sadly, i have paid more than $2000 for this Mac Book Pro (i7), and used almost 70% of what my kids used the laptops. And all of sudden it stopped charging the battery and the OS says it need to be replaced. If we have to pay almost 4 times the prices for getting this junk then why do we need a Mac? Isn’t that to make the Apple's top officials wallet lot bigger?

The fact is that my i3 laptops are way faster than this i7 mac book pro, it takes forever to boot and/or open any app, even after upgrading the memory to 8GB. They're giving you the 5400rpm hard drive. If Apple is putting all the cheapest hardware in the system and making the external case look pretty then what is the point of Apple? Attract the customers based on look and not by the performance? PC works lot better than this Mac these days... Apple messed up in the Mac as well as in iPhones... Why in the world you go backward Apple because we trust in you too much?

Common Apple, I think you can do lot better to make your valuable customers satisfied if not happy. Put some good parts in your products that are reliable...

Really? 130 for a battery and it only last 2-3 years. I bought my macbook pro in 2009 fall and the battery get swell really bad in 2012 spring, I don't use the battery that often, most of the time it's on AC adapter, and when I bring it to the store, they told me they don't cover it...

    Not Pleased

    • Written by from Jonesboro

Bought my 15-inch (Aluminum) MacBook Pro in April 2011 and now I am getting a warning to completely replace my battery in November 2012. Average usage is about 4 to 6 hours, 3 to 4 days per week. I never got the number of hours that the battery was suppose to operate on with a single charge. Come-on APPLE you can do better than that, if you claim that your product can perform at a certain level (7 hours on a signal charge) that is what I expect, not 4 hours. Life expectancy for your batteries is never clearly stated, please start developing a 10 hour, 2 year use no matter how much you use your MacBook Pro. Remember companies like Samsung want to out sale, out develop, and out perform you, APPLE. Look what they did with there Smartphones!

My original battery went after 2 years & lucky for me I was still under warranty. Not so lucky the second time around. The second battery completely died after 10 months. Great laptop but NOT so great battery! With all the battery issues reported you would think Apple would do something about it!

This battery is a rip-off. First of all, the battery life is deceptively advertised as long-lasting, you're lucky to get 45 minutes if you have 1 application open. RIp-off and overpriced!

Battery swells up - very strange

    • Written by from Plano

The battery on my 2009 early MB pro still works but has swelled to the point where I can't even close the battery case and can't even use the computer as a portable. The battery is the original and only a little more than 3 years old.
