    Good While It Lasted

    • Written by from Irvine

I was very happy with this battery while it lasted - but it did not last long enough! After about 18 months and 200 cycles the battery life dropped dramatically and the % remaining became totally unreliable, so I would lose all power without warning. By 230 cycles the battery was good for about 30 minutes of power on a full charge! Also, I should mention that I followed all the battery care instructions and re-calibrated the battery monthly, so I don't think the problems can be attributed to any misuse on my end. The reason it gets 2 stars is because, before the problems occurred, the battery was great and lasted for 3 to 4 hours of good use.

    Look after your batteries!

    • Written by from El Medano

I have had mine 15 months and it still charges 100% and gives me a full day´s work as I don´t take my charger with me. I ALWAYS run it flat before charging as recommended. It charges to 100% and no change in the time I have had it. Lots of "short" charges WILL ruin the battery.

Doesn't hold a charge after barely a year

The title says it all. I'm looking for a 3rd party battery in hopes it's more reliable than apple's.

    BATTERY DIED OVER NIGHT!!!!

    • Written by from vancouver

I have had my macbook aluminum for just over a year now. It's the MacBook that they had for about a couple months during 2009. then they changed the name to MacBook Pro. But anyways. My battery was having no problems. Then when i went to go use my Mac i open it up. And then about 30 seconds later it died. Nothing worked. Not even the battery indicator. It literally died. So i went to plug it in. Then the led light on the front starts flashing like crazy. And now it won't charge. The battery indicator keeps on blinking. It's always at 0% and right as in unplug it. It dies again.

    Great Battery!

    • Written by from South Gate

I've had my Macbook for 22 months now. My battery is at 275 cycles and the battery capacity is at 4006 mAh. The original capacity was 4100 mAh. Maybe there are defective batteries out there, but mine has been just fine.

    Apple, I am just disappointed

    • Written by from Far Hills

Come on now Apple. When I bought my Macbook 16 months ago, the battery was advertised as state of the art. The battery lasted no longer than a year before it completely died. The computer will not run on battery for more than 10 minutes.

Based on the numerous similar reviews, this is not simple wear and tear, Apple. This should be covered! I am just disappointed!

    Battery Troubles

    • Written by from Houston

My first battery lasted 9 months and was replaced under warranty.

My replacement also only lasted 9 months (notice a theme yet?). Apple normally says the warranty on batteries is one year. When the replacement died they then tell me that they will not replace it. They say that it only has a 90 day warranty.

Why does the same battery have a 1 year replacement at times and 90 day at other times? It's the same battery. Apple should stand behind their products the same. If someone has already had a problem once then not standing behind it the second time is not the smart thing to do. This is very frustrating.

500 plus cycles and you are complaining??

    • Written by from Phoenix

it's rated for 300, anymore is a bonus, I love all the people throwing up stats over 300 cycles and complaining. You'll get more use if u drain and recharge weekly, rather than rarely draining as u most do but it's only rated for 300 cycles and anymore is gravy now go buy a new battery

    poor life.

I'm echoing basically the same thing I'm seeing on a lot of recent reviews. Have had the Macbook for 15 months and it now shuts down with about 45 minutes remaining on the battery. Even a full charge only lasts for about an hour. Shame that it has such a short life.

    Extremely disappointed

    • Written by from Ashburn

I've had my computer for one year and four months, and my battery only holds a charge for about an hour before shutting off. I used to get 8 hours of battery life, but recently it's been awful and even shuts down when it reaches 25% charge. I called Apple and they said it was just from normal usage, so it wasn't covered. Seeing all of these reviews saying the same thing disappoints me because I thought that Apple was a company that took pride in making good products worth standing by.

A battery should last longer than a year, Apple. It's a shame that a leading technological company can't make a battery that works and lasts.

battery is dead after 18 months

    • Written by from Ollers

My battery died after less than 18 months. It now only works for about 5 minutes and then dies without warning. Completely unacceptable for a product I paid more than 1000 Euro for. See technical info below.

The local service offered me a new battery (with only 3 months of warranty!) for 120 Euros. I think I will rather spend 250 Euro on a small no name notebook with 1 year warranty than running any more risks with Apple's inferior products.

I switched to Apple 18 months ago but now regret it. Do not buy their products until they have recalled all their faulty batteries at no charge to their clients!

    MACBOOK

    • Written by from New York

I have the same problem. My Macbook is a little over a year old. While I still have a 25% charge, the computer dies with no warning. When I start up, I have to plug in, and the usual start-up sound is absent. Does this mean I have to buy new battery?

Apple you can design better battery

    • Written by from Philadelphia

This is my second experience with apple product which died right after my warranty expired. After 1 year, my Macbook's status bar started to show "Service Battery" warning and shut down without any warning. I took it to Apple Genius Bar and they told me that the decrease in my batter performance after 1 year is very normal, I should simply replace the battery (only $125!!!) and should get 1 more year of warranty.
I dont think this is true even for lame PCs. But if this is really true its shame on apple that they can design aesthetically perfect products which does not last longer than warranty. Or their marketing strategy is to rip you over the battery or extended Apple Care. I was thinking about the iPhone 4 but now I will think a second and and even a third time.

Poor performance over time - Macbook battery

    • Written by

Poor performance of this battery. Charges for about an hour. Have to be plugged in almost constantly! What's the sense of having a portable book if you're strapped to an outlet? Find a better way Apple.

    Poor performance over time

    • Written by from Winston-Salem

I have had my aluminum Macbook for just around 1 year. The battery now only maintains a charge for 1 hour, and there is not even warning when it is low - the computer just dies, causing you to lose your work (which is what led me to write this review). I do just what they say to do in terms of maintaining your battery life. And I do expect to lose some of the battery life over time, but one hour with no warning before it conks out is unacceptable.

The only other time I have had this problem is when I used my old Mac G4 overseas and there were power fluctuations, which is really bad for your battery. But I only have used this computer in the US, so there is no reason for it.

Really disappointed and now have to shell out another $124 for a new battery. Boo on you, Apple!

Apple Battery is Best to Pathetic...

    • Written by

I have been using Macbook for last two years. For first 18 Months, battery life was coming to 3 to 4 hours. I was very satisfied. But Suddenly one day it stopped working. It is absolutely pathectic thing is that my battery was not charging 1%. it started to show 0% always.
Normal batteries will show some signs of declining life time. But Apple macbook battery work well for some time and suddenly it stops working which clearly shows there is some terrible technical problem in the design of the product.
If u dont have any option, then go Ahead and buy macbook Battery. It caused lot of inconvenices to me. In this matter, Dell and HP is far better. I would love to hear from other users

My Battery, Speakers, and CD Drive are all going haywire!

    • Written by from Tallahassee

    Is this not normal?

I've only had my macbook for less than 2 years, and after being fully charged, it dies within 20-30 minutes after I unplug it (EVEN IF I ONLY USE A WORD PROCESSOR). And it's not like I don't treat my computer well. I turn off bluetooth, quit all unused apps, and put it at low brightness settings while setting the battery life to "better energy savings." I usually always charge it and try not to let it die. Since it won't even last 30 minutes without being plugged in, I can't even use it to type up notes for ONE period of class.

In addition, the speakers stopped working because it continually thinks there is something plugged into the headphone jack. This first happened when I connected a brand new speaker to my laptop. You probably think I jammed it or something, but I did it gently (I treat my laptop like a fragile child). Afterwards, it would NOT play any sound when disconnected from the speaker. After searching this phenomenon on google, I found that tons of people have this same problem, and have been fixing it by poking around the jack with a MATCHSTICK. POKING? with a MATCHSTICK? Does it really come down to this, Apple?

Like a fool, I tried the matchstick suggestion. It left me with a broken nail and a broken heart. And yet, no sound.

Mainly, the battery life is the problem. I have not abused my computer and it's rapidly dying. For a period of time, it made crazy sounds (like continual sounds of a disc being inserted, repeated about 12 times) every time the computer turned on or awoke from sleep. What is this? I didn't pay $2000 to get nasty looks at the library because my Macbook started screeching.

This problem randomly went away about a month ago. I'm afraid for what else is going to occur in my laptop's future.

    I have no warranty.

    HELP?!!!!!!!!
