Agree with the others - dies fast

My battery lasted just over 2yrs, then started dying suddenly before getting down to "reserve power" or below 10%. Was caught off guard. It's unpredictable. The charge lasts noticeably shorter by the day.
Apple products are usually of high quality and I expected better.

    Poor Battery Quality

I can't believe that my Macbook battery barely lasted 2 years, now, I need to have my Macbook plugged in all the time, it won't even last a minute without it. I am thinking if it is worth investing another 130$ on this, which may not even last a year or just buy an iPad and keep the Macbook plugged in..

I am not too impressed with the quality of battery life..

I have always liked Apple products, but the battery life on my MacBook is just plain ridiculous! I've had my computer for 18 months, and I'm lucky if my battery lasts 45 minutes before having to plug it in. It's quite upsetting to see my friends who have PCs with much better battery quality. Why would I pay $130 for a battery that won't last long at all? This is just not right Apple. You need to step up your game.

Having bought the late-2008 unibody MacBook in April 2009, I have used this laptop extensively, with the same battery.

    Battery Information:

    Cycle count: 604

I still get about 2 hours (at 50% brightness) fully charged. I"m in the market for a new battery, but the battery I have now is still chugging through :D

A battery is made to be used!

This is for all the people complaining about this battery and say that they dont unplug the computer and have a broken battery with less than 100 cycles. Right now I'm in a public library, and have been working for 2 hours with battery (completely unpluged, surfing wireless, and doing microsoft word), this is the info I have right now:

    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 1823
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3739
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 747
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1024
    Voltage (mV): 11288

This battery is 2 years and 4 months old! The secret of getting this numbers is simple: use the battery!!!!! In other words: plug it in when it needs charge (this is when you get the message "your computer is running on reserve battery power") and unplug it once you get 100%. This has been very effective for me, and I am very thankful with the mac genius who told me this secret.
I'm sure the life of a battery is not a luck issue, it's just to know how to use the batteries, for now, I think I'll get another one because 3.5 hours it is giving now is not enough for me, and this battery is really good.

    Good luck!

    Poor shelf life

    • Written by from dorchester

    Current Battery Capacity: 2153 mAh
    Original Battery Capacity: 4100 mAh
    Battery-Loadcycles: 350
    Age of Mac: 23 months

In about a month, my battery capacity has plummeted from 75-80% to 52%! This is a rapid deteriation, which I wasn't expecting, as I take good care of my battery. I can't even calibrate the battery properly now, due to the ever-increasingly decine in battery capacity - the battery doesn't know when to reserve charge for when it needs to go into sleep mode! This means that my macbook will suddenly, without warning, shut down, and due to Pages not having a recovery function, I have lost several important documents.

I do not have the money avaliable to suddenly shell out £100. Their needs to be a price cut, or a new battery developed. It is ridiculous that the mac issued less than a year after mine has a 5-7 hour charge and a lengthy shelf life, and mine, which i purchased for a similar price, has a 1-2 hour charge after less than 2 years of use.

    Battery life

To bring some balance to these reviews I've had my aluminum MacBook since they were first released. The battery is currently at 98% health after 340 cycles.

Clearly the battery life will depend on how you use/treat it. I always let it die before plugging in and always let it fully recharge.

Don't negatively rate a product due to its inherent limitations. These problems you're experiencing will happen to all batteries given the same treatment

i cant complain about the performance of my computer... apple has very good products... now i can agree with others that the battery dies all too quickly... but in my case it happened because more than often i would just leave my comp on for days even weeks and it would die on its own... thus came the problem where it just started dying all to quick.. now im lucky if it last a minute unplugged... its not just apple computers that do this, every other comp without the proper care will die, and if u leave your laptop on and plugged all the time it will drain your battery even faster, and your computer wont have any other choice but to rely on the power plug to stay alive... word of advice once you are done using your computer just shut it down yourself.. if you are not lookin for an extra battery this will save u money...

I bought my Macbook an 1,5 year ago and my battery worked fine until one week ago it started to die very quickly, with no warning, and sometimes it shuts of when it has 40% charge, i don't understand, my expensive Macbook sudently transformed itself in a desktop, and i don't use it so often, imagine if i did...here are the values:

    Carga restante (mAh): 454
    Carga completa: Não
    A carregar: Sim
    Capacidade total (mAh): 1042
    Informação de estado:
    Contagem de ciclos: 345
    Condição: Poor
    Bateria instalada: Sim
    Amperagem (mA): 374
    Voltagem (mV): 12325

And sometimes, in "Amperagem" i have NEGATIVE VALUES is this normal??? (now is charging...), but i have my computer for a little more than a year and my battry condicion is POOR??
Not happy and this week i'll go to a Mac tecnical assistent store and see what's going on.
    I can't believe i'll have to buy a 130 euro battery every 2 years....
Apple really has to sort this serious problem, i see in internet foruns and even in Apple's web site i'm not the only one.
I'll soon write if going to thetecnical assistent was any help....Very dissapointed....

Not much to add to what others have said about the poor performance of this battery. I never unplugged my laptop much and after only 197 cycles by battery is defunct. Apple Store was no help. Now out of warranty. Upset.

This battery lasts about 3.5 hours under normal use (internet browsing, e-mail, etc.) and just long enough to watch most movies in HD. People that are complaining about their batteries dying prematurely need to learn how to take care of them.

I have owned a MacBook 13" for just over 2 years. The battery can't hold a charge anymore. Only 266 cycles. Once it gets to 25-30% remaining charge - just goes black! Not good enough for any product but especially Apple!

Dunno what's going on, but this battery just doesn't cut it anymore. I've had this second generation, or first, aluminum laptop for little under a year and now the battery is acting up. The battery can't last no longer than 45 minutes without dying. As I type this, the battery went down from 21% to 14%, which was about five minutes. I like this brand, but this is ridiculous. I don't want to have to switch over to Dell or Sony.

I have had my macbook for just shy of 2 years and have finally come to the point where I must order a new battery. The old one would last 2-45 minutes max.

Apple, read your reviews. YOU HAVE A FREAKING PROBLEM! You know you do and yet you still stick it to everyone to buy a new $130 battery. What a joke! I agree with others who have commented, if you supply a MAC address to a macbook who requires this junk of a battery, offer it at a discount.

I look forward to see how long my new battery will last.

I've had my MacBook for two years. I noticed it was holding a charge for significantly less time about 6 months after I purchased it, and it has become progressively worse. now it wont hold a charge at all. I was shocked to see so many others having the same problem. Interestingly, I can still get a half hour out of my 11 year old power book when it is fully charged. Do I need to buy a new battery every year or two?

I just can't believe it...not only my power cord messed up last week but now battery has a warning sign that says battery needs service! it is not charging well. I did notice that the battery didn't last even 2hrs anymore. I paid so much for this MacBook and it turned out to be worst than my Sony Vaio I had before. I think apple should help ua all on this since we bought there items because we thought they were high quality. Very dissapointed I hope my iPhone lasts much longer than this.

I came to this site to check the prices for this battery to replace my current one, and not only was I surprised to find so many negative reviews, but also disappointed as i've had the same experiences, which you would not expect seeing as this was an Apple branded product. Two years is INDEED the magic number, I've had my MacBook since 2008 and it continues to work fine, but the battery itself will only last about 30 - 40 mins on a full charge. If I dim the screen to about 25% (which barely makes you able to see anything depending on the lighting) then you MAY squeeze out more. $129 is honestly laughable for this product.
