Not perfect but better than most!

    • Written by from Thornville

I've had my Macbook for 2 years now and the battery is nearly as good as the day I bought it, as shown below. Original full charge capacity was 4100mAh, now 4080mAh... no complaints from me! Beats any PC I've ever owned!

    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3797
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4080
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 529
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1169
    Voltage (mV): 12140

I think the key is to make sure you use the battery appropriately - don't just leave it plugged in. Let the battery run down before recharging and you will extend it's life and usefulness.

Learn how to use a rechargeable battery

    • Written by from Fort Wayne

I bought my Macbook in 2009 and I haven't had to replace the battery yet. It now says "Replace Soon". Here are a few tips to make your battery last long than 1 year-as many consumers claim its lifetime is.

-When you charge your battery, charge to completion
-When the battery is charged, unplug it
-Don't charge it unless it needs it
-Calibrate it via Apple's instructions online regularly

Following these easy steps will help you maximize your battery's lifetime. Your battery WILL deplete if you don't use it properly, its not Apple's responsibility to protect you from improperly using it.

    Great Build

    • Written by from mississauga

Honestly, the MacBook batteries are generally very well built. Mine has lasted me 3 years, I'm on 784 cycles and I can still get a solid 3 hours on it! Purchasing a second battery will only give me extra hours on my laptops life :)

    Good While It Lasted

    • Written by from Irvine

I was very happy with this battery while it lasted - but it did not last long enough! After about 18 months and 200 cycles the battery life dropped dramatically and the % remaining became totally unreliable, so I would lose all power without warning. By 230 cycles the battery was good for about 30 minutes of power on a full charge! Also, I should mention that I followed all the battery care instructions and re-calibrated the battery monthly, so I don't think the problems can be attributed to any misuse on my end. The reason it gets 2 stars is because, before the problems occurred, the battery was great and lasted for 3 to 4 hours of good use.

Don't think this battery will ever die!

    • Written by from Catasauqua

My current battery status speaks for itself. Bought late 2008 - 13 inch Macbook:

Yep, that's right - 5 years, and 1890 full charge cycles and STILL keeps going!!!!

    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3342
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3342
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 1890
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 12495

If you let your machine run on battery after full charges, and drain it down to almost 'empty' most of the time before putting back on the charger, you will also get battery life like this!

i have had this laptop for about two years, and my battery is at 54% after 568 cycles. Batteries die so it makes sense that its time to replace it, The only problem is the price but its been two years so I should have the money laying around somewhere by now.

    Battery life

    • Written by from Witney

To bring some balance to these reviews I've had my aluminum MacBook since they were first released. The battery is currently at 98% health after 340 cycles.

Clearly the battery life will depend on how you use/treat it. I always let it die before plugging in and always let it fully recharge.

Don't negatively rate a product due to its inherent limitations. These problems you're experiencing will happen to all batteries given the same treatment

    Battery Information:

I still get about 2 hours (at 50% brightness) fully charged. I"m in the market for a new battery, but the battery I have now is still chugging through :D

    BATTERY DIED OVER NIGHT!!!!

    • Written by from vancouver

I have had my macbook aluminum for just over a year now. It's the MacBook that they had for about a couple months during 2009. then they changed the name to MacBook Pro. But anyways. My battery was having no problems. Then when i went to go use my Mac i open it up. And then about 30 seconds later it died. Nothing worked. Not even the battery indicator. It literally died. So i went to plug it in. Then the led light on the front starts flashing like crazy. And now it won't charge. The battery indicator keeps on blinking. It's always at 0% and right as in unplug it. It dies again.

Learn how this type of battery works before posting a review!

    • Written by from Euharlee

Charging habits will contribute greatly to your battery's longevity. If your notebook stays fully charged at all times the battery will loose its ability to hold a healthy charge. Running your battery through its designed draining and charging cycles will ensure a long productive life for your battery! This doesn't mean you have to completely drain the battery to 0% before charging, in fact that is not a good idea!

    Standard Maintenance
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. Need a reminder? Add an event to Calendar on your desktop. When your battery no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs, you may choose to replace it. If your notebook came with a built-in battery, you should have the battery replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

    Long-Term Storage
If you don’t plan on using your notebook for more than six months, Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life. Be sure to store your notebook and battery at the proper temperature. (See “Notebook Temperate Zone.”)Notebook Temperate Zone. Your Apple notebook works best from 50° to 95°F. You should store them in places with temperatures of -13° to 113°. That’s 10° to 35°C and -25° to 45°, for the metrically inclined. Keeping your Mac as near room temperature as possible (22°C) is ideal.

My current battery capacity is at 8051mAh after 133 charging cycles (17 months 5days). The full capacity when new was 8400mAh. You should expect to get 1000 charging cycles or about 5 years (depending on frequency of use) before your battery reaches 80% of it's original charging capacity.Charge Information:
    Charge Remaining (mAh): 6659
    Fully Charged: No
    Charging: Yes

    Cycle Count: 133
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes

This battery came with my laptop that I bought two years ago. Now it's not lasting so long - only several hours. Over time it'll probably last even less time. But it's the only choice you've got if you have a 13 or 14 inch unibody MacBook Pro.

    very happy with my mac

    • Written by from Bronx

i cant complain about the performance of my computer... apple has very good products... now i can agree with others that the battery dies all too quickly... but in my case it happened because more than often i would just leave my comp on for days even weeks and it would die on its own... thus came the problem where it just started dying all to quick.. now im lucky if it last a minute unplugged... its not just apple computers that do this, every other comp without the proper care will die, and if u leave your laptop on and plugged all the time it will drain your battery even faster, and your computer wont have any other choice but to rely on the power plug to stay alive... word of advice once you are done using your computer just shut it down yourself.. if you are not lookin for an extra battery this will save u money...

    Superb Battery Life

    • Written by

Ya! I love the battery life that Apple created for this computer. I now enjoying more time with my computer without the worry of loosing battery life..... soon. I hope you guys in Apple could make a battery that could last for 7hrs for my 13" MacBook Pro Aluminum 6th Gen 2.4GHz.

For many computer users, Apple pricing over its products really sets them back to purchasing this brand of computer. But I believe, like many of us do, Apple presents reasonable pricing in consideration to the quality of the product they offer. And yes! I'm now a proud and will always be a proud owner (of a MacBook Pro 13" 6th Gen).

I've had the late 2008 macbook since it was brand new in late 08'. I've been using it daily up until last week when I got a late 13 rMBP. Its had the original battery for it's entire life, the condition has been "replace now" for at least 2 and a half years but still holds a charge for about 2 hours. The cycle count is at 1934
