Dunno what's going on, but this battery just doesn't cut it anymore. I've had this second generation, or first, aluminum laptop for little under a year and now the battery is acting up. The battery can't last no longer than 45 minutes without dying. As I type this, the battery went down from 21% to 14%, which was about five minutes. I like this brand, but this is ridiculous. I don't want to have to switch over to Dell or Sony.

Depends on how you treat it

    • Written by from Morton

Honestly the battery life in these things depends on how you treat it. If you let it die completely before charging it and then taking it off the charger when its done then the battery will last you minimum of two years. Mine is almost two years old and i still have 3873 mAh left with over 891 cycles. People tell me that is amazing but that's how it should be. Apple makes quality products you just have to treat them right.

    Massively disappointing.

    • Written by from Charlotte

After only 12 months of moderate use the battery would no longer hold a charge for more than a few minutes. I've kept it plugged in since then but now if it comes unplugged it's questionable if I can even plug it back in before it dies... Now I need to spend $130 I really shouldn't have to, especially after paying a premium for an apple notebook.

    • Written by from cartersville

well looks like 2 years is the max for these batteries, thing that kills me is my cousin is at cycle count 280 and still has 4100 mah while mine is at 277 and and is at 2300 on a full charge. 1300$ for a macbook and the battery dies this quick, sorry apple, that just not good enough

    Bad, Bad Battery!!

    • Written by from San Rafael

It last a little longer than 3 hours just the first time I used it unplugged, since then, the charge last considerably less, less and less, and two days ago it blowed up, it looks like those inflated metal sheet sculpture, it is thigh on the edges but fat on the center. Not fair, a $129 battery with a 2 - 3 months lead time and last less than 24 months. I think Apple should come out with an upgraded model that last longer and does not get fat.

    Battery life/Battery care

    • Written by from Cumberland

My Macbook has 339 cycles on it. Once you hit 300 cycles, in some ways, everything extra is icing on the cake. My battery still has 47Wh of capacity and according to the spec sheet it hold a nominal capacity of 45Wh, so it is still within specifications. The battery should keep up to 80% of the rated capacity by 300 cycles. This is according to specifications. If your battery has passed 300 and has died, please don't complain, the battery is within specification. Most batteries made currently last 300 cycles, so that is normal. In my time with portable computers, I have seen many batteries go bad, and that is normal within certain limits. You have to know what those limits are and keep them in mind,
One thing important to note is that there are many ways to properly treat a battery to make it last longer including unplugging your computer every now and then so that your computer can use the battery. When you get the battery, use the instructions in the Apple knowledgebase to calibrate it. Never keep your computer plugged in all the time. This is bad for the battery and can result in your battery dying prematurely. This is a poor way to "baby" your battery. You can read tips on how to keep your battery in shape. They are up in the Apple knowledgebase as well. I have found the tips presented to be helpful for all of my electronics with lithium ion batteries.

battery not up to rest of computer

    • Written by from Los Angeles

The little macbook is awesome in quality of picture etc. But the battery lasted only an hour an a half with a movie. So you cannot watch (most) whole movies, which are usually 2 hours. I thought maybe I need a new battery, since this one is about two years old, but then I saw the other reviews.

    Poor Battery Life

    • Written by from ST. JOHNS

I have owned a MacBook 13" for just over 2 years. The battery can't hold a charge anymore. Only 266 cycles. Once it gets to 25-30% remaining charge - just goes black! Not good enough for any product but especially Apple!

I've only had my macbook for less than 2 years, and after being fully charged, it dies within 20-30 minutes after I unplug it (EVEN IF I ONLY USE A WORD PROCESSOR). And it's not like I don't treat my computer well. I turn off bluetooth, quit all unused apps, and put it at low brightness settings while setting the battery life to "better energy savings." I usually always charge it and try not to let it die. Since it won't even last 30 minutes without being plugged in, I can't even use it to type up notes for ONE period of class.

In addition, the speakers stopped working because it continually thinks there is something plugged into the headphone jack. This first happened when I connected a brand new speaker to my laptop. You probably think I jammed it or something, but I did it gently (I treat my laptop like a fragile child). Afterwards, it would NOT play any sound when disconnected from the speaker. After searching this phenomenon on google, I found that tons of people have this same problem, and have been fixing it by poking around the jack with a MATCHSTICK. POKING? with a MATCHSTICK? Does it really come down to this, Apple?

Like a fool, I tried the matchstick suggestion. It left me with a broken nail and a broken heart. And yet, no sound.

Mainly, the battery life is the problem. I have not abused my computer and it's rapidly dying. For a period of time, it made crazy sounds (like continual sounds of a disc being inserted, repeated about 12 times) every time the computer turned on or awoke from sleep. What is this? I didn't pay $2000 to get nasty looks at the library because my Macbook started screeching.

This problem randomly went away about a month ago. I'm afraid for what else is going to occur in my laptop's future.

    I have no warranty.

I was very happy with the battery for the first year. Now unfortunately I am only getting about 1 hour web surfing and 20-30 mins with any type of video. A battery should last longer than a year and 4 months in my opinion.

battery is dead after 18 months

    • Written by from Ollers

My battery died after less than 18 months. It now only works for about 5 minutes and then dies without warning. Completely unacceptable for a product I paid more than 1000 Euro for. See technical info below.

The local service offered me a new battery (with only 3 months of warranty!) for 120 Euros. I think I will rather spend 250 Euro on a small no name notebook with 1 year warranty than running any more risks with Apple's inferior products.

I switched to Apple 18 months ago but now regret it. Do not buy their products until they have recalled all their faulty batteries at no charge to their clients!
