i bought a new battery about a year ago, and my computer needs a new one again, it goes from 100% charged to 30% in about 40 minutes... and it will die within another 20 minutes. its supper annoying considering how expensive these batteries are.

    Terrible unreliable battery

    • Written by from Montreal

Battery stopped working after a year and a half. Went to apple store, ran mri and other tests. Battery passed all the test but cannot find why the battery is not working. Changed the battery and charged me for their deffective battery. Would not be surprised if the new battery dies after a year and a half again.

    Great Battery!!

I've had the late 2008 macbook since it was brand new in late 08'. I've been using it daily up until last week when I got a late 13 rMBP. Its had the original battery for it's entire life, the condition has been "replace now" for at least 2 and a half years but still holds a charge for about 2 hours. The cycle count is at 1934

Don't think this battery will ever die!

My current battery status speaks for itself. Bought late 2008 - 13 inch Macbook:

Yep, that's right - 5 years, and 1890 full charge cycles and STILL keeps going!!!!

    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3342
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3342
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 1890
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 12495

If you let your machine run on battery after full charges, and drain it down to almost 'empty' most of the time before putting back on the charger, you will also get battery life like this!

    Amazing Battery!

I bought my Aluminum Macbook (late 2008 model) in early 2009, so I am going on six years with this computer and this battery is still performing nearly like it did when I first got it. Even though I have nearly 1000 cycles, it's still going strong. Proper maintenance with computer will ensure a long life, they tell you to do it for a reason!

Learn how to use a rechargeable battery

    • Written by from Fort Wayne

I bought my Macbook in 2009 and I haven't had to replace the battery yet. It now says "Replace Soon". Here are a few tips to make your battery last long than 1 year-as many consumers claim its lifetime is.

-When you charge your battery, charge to completion
-When the battery is charged, unplug it
-Don't charge it unless it needs it
-Calibrate it via Apple's instructions online regularly

Following these easy steps will help you maximize your battery's lifetime. Your battery WILL deplete if you don't use it properly, its not Apple's responsibility to protect you from improperly using it.

    Great Product

    • Written by from Williamsport

I bought my Mac in March 2009, it's a late 2008 13" unibody. I have been more than pleased with this computer overall and the battery. I have not taken very good care of the battery and it's still kicking decently. I am at a cycle count of 410 right now which may not seem like a lot, but that's because I kept my computer plugged in all the time over the past 4+ years. It's also good considering the late 2008 MacBook's only have a Maximum Cycle Count of 300. I can get a little over 1 hour of web surfing time, if I try watching a movie on an external HD I only can get about 20 minutes. However as I said, I kept this thing plugged in ALL the time and rarely ever let it fully drain. I will probably purchase a Pro with Retina this year as the Max Cycle Count on those are at 1000, and I will definitely take care of this one. I'm willing to bet most of the people that had bad experiences with these batteries didn't take very good care of them like myself or perhaps it was just a defective battery. Either way I am pleased with Apple and the MacBook overall.

I got my Macbook for Christmas in 2008. It is now July 2013 and I have yet to change its battery. I just got the "Replace Soon" message two months ago, so this battery has lasted me almost five years! It still holds its charge for about 2 hours unplugged.

    Full charge capacity (mAh): 2751
    Cycle count: 1505
    Condition: Replace Soon
    Amperage (mA): 2039
    Voltage (mV): 11600

Replaced first after five years, back to 4hr life

    • Written by from Bethesda

After 654 charge cycles and five years of use, the old battery was down to 60% of capacity and failing. Bit the (rather expensive) bullet and am glad I did. With an SSD, 8GB of RAM, and this new battery the old Unibody MB is still going strong. (New replacement battery has a capacity of 4525mAh, which is better than the design capacity of 4300mAh.) Now I can wait for a Haswell rMBP or rMBA!

    Terribly Unreliable

    • Written by from Cape Carteret

The battery is 14 months old, and I discharge it completely at least twice a month, yet it will only run my computer for 20 minutes! Completely unacceptable! Believe me when I say that I have taken the absolute best care of this battery: I am a Junior computer science/engineering student at a North Carolina Engineering College.

Purchased my mac almost four years ago and it's battery health is at 36%, it's only given me 752 cycles. I guess I didn't know I had to "take care" of the battery or even HOW-to take care of the battery... Apple, aren't you missing something on the box/manual/intro-message?

I'm on cycle number 1564 right now! It still holds a charge for a few hours while surfing the web. It came with my computer when I bought it the day that the aluminum style macbook came out back in '08. I don't know how long batteries are supposed to last, but this one is still treatin' me right.

    Take care of your battery!

    • Written by from Bobin

It seems that there are a lot of negative reviews regarding this particular battery so I'm going to try and clear some things up. There are some things you can do to try and extend the life of your battery, the simplest of which is UNPLUGGING your laptop from the charger when the battery it's FULL. If you do this your batteries lifespan will last for years. Example, my laptop is still using it's original 4 year old battery and it's still running strong:
    Charge Information:
    Charge Remaining (mAh): 1724
    Fully Charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3637
    Health Information:
    Cycle Count: 1373
    Condition: Normal

My guess is the people submitting the negative reviews have no idea how to take care of their battery.

Don't Underestimate the Value of This Battery!

    • Written by from Guelph

This battery was rated for 500cycles, but instead decided to give me 1437 before going to that great big battery field up in the sky. I didn't even practice the "good battery care techniques" that I've only now learned exist.

As far as I'm concerned, that's great value.

    4 years and working great

    • Written by from Middleton

As I was about to purchase a new battery, and after reading the reviews, I realized how lucky I am. I have been using my 2008 Late Aluminum MacBook unplugged for nearly 2 hours now, and I am at 70%, with 3 hours remaining. I noticed the review that suggested unplugging when fully charged. Although there were times I would leave it plugged in for a day or two, generally, it was left unplugged, so this may well be helpful after all. The price of the battery is rather steep, so I think I might just wait a little longer to order a second batter, just to have one on hand. I realize now that I confused the charge in this MacBook to the one in my IPad. Hey...I'm old, it happens.
