    Not Worth It

    Written by TS from Brampton

    Dec 1, 2009

The sound quality is acceptable, but definitely on the low end. The problem however, is the extremely short lifespan. I use these no more than 3 hours each day, and after a couple months, they begin to break down. First, I lose bass, then they stop working. Even when I take good care of the, and avoid moisture, they still manage to break. I've gone through three pairs in the last year, and I've had enough.

    Don't use these for exercise

    Written by EW from Bountiful

    Dec 1, 2009

Despite the fact that Nike+ iPod is built into the iPhone and iPod Touch--promoting the devices for exercise use--these earphones aren't up to snuff for that use. Any--and I mean ANY--sweat or moisture shorts out the remote control and causes all kinds of havoc. Not only do functions on the remote stop working, but the headphones will cause the iPod to randomly start, electronically suppress the volume unless re-plugged in or clicked multiple times, cause songs to skip or fast forward, or cause the iPod to constantly enter into voice command mode etc.

I've been through two pairs with very light and limited use in exercising and both have shorted out within two weeks with very little contact with sweat--we're talking a single drop of sweat rolling down the cord and hitting the remote section. Weren't these tested for their intended use?!?

Vastly overpriced and vastly under engineered. I love Apple products and have been a loyal Apple customer for almost two decades now. This is the worst Apple product I've encountered.

I love the idea and it was perfect for exercise while it lasted, but these headphones are a waste of money.

be prepared to buy a pair of these every year

Written by HL from New York

    Dec 1, 2009

these are decent headphones - until they break, that is. they last about a year. apple should sell them for 9.99; then maybe they'd be worth it. if i could find similar headphones with a mic for the iphone from a different company, i'd be trying out those. right now i guess i just have to throw away 29.99 every year. come on apple, you can do better than this.

got ruined in less than a week

    Written by DP from Washington

I bought them happily that they were going to last. However, the microphone suddenly stopped working as well as the volume and play button. Now the right side of the earphones stopped working too. Worst earphones ever.

    No hold button

Written by LB from Oak Park

    Nov 30, 2009

Do not leave your earphones plugged into your iPod with these earphones. If the remote get bumped, it will cause music to just play and play and play. The last remote at least had a hold button. Plus, my Sony earphones are much better.

    Don't Like

    Written by EP from Philadelphia

    Nov 30, 2009

The sound is okay, but they are hard to operate. I can not skip to the next song, and keep creating playlists that are about 10 songs, so the same 10 songs play over and over until I reset the ipod from my computer. I can not figure out how to stop the playlist from playing. It doesn't seem to pause either. If I didn't have a iPod Shuffle I would not buy these ear phones, but I am stuck until I buy a different iPod!!

    Not good for the gym.

Written by VC from White Plains

    Nov 28, 2009

The only reason I bought the shuffle was to use it at the gym for working out. The headphones failed within a few weeks and so did the shuffle. Unable to control the volume or playlists. Would not buy a player that relies on these headphones because the headphones are unreliable.

    Complete garbage

Written by AD from Des Moines

    Nov 28, 2009

These headphones sound great, look great, and work great… right up until you try to use them at the gym. I've had three pair of these, each of which Apple assured me would work at the gym. Each pair has failed spectacularly during the very first use. The remote goes crazy the second you start sweating: random pausing, fast fowarding, and somehow stopping my music altogether (which isn't even a supported function, so that's a neat trick!) Bottom line: this is the worst Apple product I've ever owned. Buy any headphones but these.

Good sound quality but bad overall quality

Written by CG from costa mesa

    Nov 28, 2009

It was first time buying earphones and i can say it will be my last. The first time I used them they failed to work and now that they do work the earbuds keep falling off. I keep putting the earbud back on but the sound quality kept decreasing in quality. All in all wont buy earphones from apple.

    bad ear in headphones

Written by KM from Delray Beach

    Nov 27, 2009

I have had my shuffle for a few months and the ear headphones must be replaced. Similar to other comments - if you use these for sport activity that result in sweating the ear phones eventully won't adjust volume and ultimately don't work at all.... poor design for an Apple product. Hope the next versions are able to support sport activity and last more than a few months.

    Apple Earphones with Remote

    Written by TN from Stanton

    Nov 26, 2009

Recently, I purchased the iShuffle, which came with the Headphones. For the main purpose to use during work outs. I wasn't sure how the remote control worked, but the initial use was great. The remote was responsive and easy to use. Although, after the gym , and the very first use the of the headphones the remote stopped responding to commands. I couldn't toggle between playlist, and not even to adjust the volume.

I would settle/sacrafice many functions, but volume control is essential to listening to any audio. I read the small instructions that came with small package, and even tried to read the online manual, but there was no warning I shouldn't or can't SWEAT on them. This experience has greatly deteriorated my view of apples' product quality. Very disappointing.

    I love their abilities...

    Written by HH from Bellefonte

    Nov 25, 2009

It's really useful and I use it all the time!
But what really upsets me is that it is NOT at all durable.
I had my iPhone for three weeks and these stopped working.
I would love to buy another pair, but not knowing that they will just break quickly.
This doesn't help with the already disappointing history of Apple's earphones.
They just wear out too quickly!

ZERO STARS (I only put 1 star because Apple forces you to enter something!)

    Written by AW from Linden

    Nov 20, 2009

I agree with the post Written by SN from Kilauea on Nov 18, 2009. I am also a runner, and the Apple ear buds the come with the Ipod Touch have failed me twice while I was running. I took my original pair to an Apple Store a few weeks ago because the music kept jumping around and the Voice Control kept interrupting and turning on and off. I was told that the problem was with the ear bud and Apple gave me a replacement pair. Well, I'm going back again to get another pair because the same thing happened again. I see no reason why Apple cannot package a sturdier pair of ear buds with the Ipod Touch.

ipod earphones with remote and mic

    Written by AM from warwick

Really poor quality, i bought these as a replacement for my original pair which were physically damaged. Within four months of purchasing, one of the earphones isnt functioning properly. Extremely annoyed as i paid nearly £20 for them which is in no way a small amount for earphones when youre a student.

    expencive design without it lasting.

    Written by RD from Barendrecht

    Nov 17, 2009

Ive been having 3 ipods / iphone over a set of 5 years... I think Ive had to replace the apple headphones that come with about 10 times (if not more...) Worst thing is, the "new" rubbery coating around the earbud comes of within a month or less, and even with 12 months of warranty they dont take em back for repair/replacement because of the loose rubber. (new apple policy)

I think this apple earphone issue is a big one, and they have been lacking in quality for years. iPod/iPhone is a design product that is made to look good and function with proper useability. The only reason these things sell is that they match the iPod/iPhones exterior beauty, but dont expect apples usual quality garranty.

One last thing, I have an iPhone 3G and for some reason the volume increase / decrease buttons on the cord are not compatible for the 3G... hopefully an update could fix this, but im not so sure.

    Mac Ear phones

    Written by KM from Hamden

    Nov 16, 2009

These sound great BUT..... The cord material is matte, almost sticky stuff, not slick or smooth and therefore get dirty FAST and also hangs up on clothing, does not glide by fabric or anything that it comes in contact with. PLUS the rubber stuff around the headphones which keep them in my ears has come apart fallen off and so the phones no longer stay in my ears.

There are expensive and are not built to last. Unfortunately they are the only item I've found with a Mic so I guess I'll have to buy another pair.

    Headphones with remote: epic fail.

Written by JS from Grand Prairie

    Nov 15, 2009

I've had various iPods for years now, and since then, I've replaced headphones more often than I've refilled the tires on my truck. Recently I bought a pair of the new headphones with the mic, and they broke within weeks; I began to hear a buzzing and vibrating within the right earbud, as if something had broken loose. I don't mind buying more iPod earbuds because frankly they're the only ones that fit my ear on the market, but apparently I'm not the only one that's displeased with the shoddy quality of the new design. Come one Apple, get your stuff together!!!
