Reviews for Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor

Some reviewers reported problems with this adapter; I bought it anyway as the Apple site indicated it would work and I didn't see any alternative.

It works great. At least for me. I'm using it to hook up my old Samsung SyncMaster 175v VGA monitor to my new MacBook Pro 13" Retina (using the Thunderbolt port). I am not using it for sound. (Some reviewers were disappointed that the adapter did not work for sound; I wouldn't expect it to but have not looked into that.)

Two critiques: First, I don't think Apple is very clear that the Thunderbolt port can be used as a "Mini DisplayPort." (It can be, but it wasn't immediately obvious as it should have been.) Second, at nearly $30, I feel like I'm being gouged a bit. Mr. Cook, I already paid a premium for my Macbook. (Not to mention my iPads, iPhones, iPods, other Macbook....)

I also laughed a little at the classic Apple packaging -- totally over the top. This being just an adapter, I would have been ok with less ornate packaging, especially if you could have sold me this thing for $9 instead of $29 -- or made it in the USA.

I would give it 5 stars but deducted one for value -- this thing should be less expensive.

I'm so frustrated. We love Apple in our school district but these adapters wear out so quickly. The last two that we purchased didn't even last two months. Very disappointing.

I must say i'm quite impressed with the adapter. While I was disappointed that Apple charges $30+ for it and it really should be provided as standard with a new Macbook Pro, that's a whole other story. i have used it on my 2009 13" MBP, Pioneer 507 XDA plasma, 32" LCD TV, various data projectors and never had a problem with it. My experience is It doesn't matter if the MBP is on or off, or whether the tv is on or off, it just seems to work. Also, cloning the MBP display or extending the screen is simple and never causes a problem.
The only problem i've had with it is if i let the MBP go into 'sleep' mode, disconnect the adapter and 'wake' the MBP, sometimes i can't get a picture back on the MBP and have to restart it. It was never a problem with OS X Snow Leopard, only with Lion; so i'm blaming Lion for this problem.

I have a brand new 2012 Macbook Air. I needed to connect it to the LCD projector in my classroom. It will project but the thunderbolt port connection is loose - it doesn't fit in there tightly at all and so it loses the connection all the time and then it's really hard to get it working again. Very problematic when you're trying to teach a group of 40 high school students. I don't have time for technical issues. FAIL

I only had it for a month and then it would stop working. Bad quality for such an expensive adapter.

I am at the point of losing hope in making this adaptor work with my mac mini. I would really appreciate it if I could get some help to make better use of the portability of the mac mini and connect it to a projector. By the way, I have two mac minis 2010 and 2011 and I have used other adaptors as well but was always disappointed.. They work fine with DVI but never with VGA.
Still hoping for some support

I just purchased this Mini Displayport to VGA ADAPTER on 10-19-12 and must say i am really pleased. Bought it to use with my new macbook pro, but i was really nervous about all the reviews saying that it doesn't work. Well for those of you that were like me if you have a monitor or TV with a VGA port chances are its going to work. I have used it on various 1080p dell monitors. I wish i could say why all these people are having bad experiences maybe i was just lucky? Besides that i think product does work its the monitors or tvs that are having the problems.

Does not work with any of the 6 samsung tv's I have at home. On other brands, just fine! Next step, I'll be dumping my iphone for a galaxy! C'mon guys!

Although you have to plug the VGA end in before you plug in the mini display port, the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter works great in my 2012 Macbook Pro. I run it through the thunderbolt port and it works great.
