Why couldn't the just have made it like the older mac pro.
I had mine for 6-7 months and now it doesn't work.
The connection the last 4-5 months has been very unstable. Where the screen goes goes green or read. The actual HDMI to VGA works fine on my girlfriends pc, but as soon as I connect it to my mac pro with the Mini DisplayPort it doesn't seem to make a connection. I think also the female mini port is damaged because of the heavy weight pulling it down.
I just think the plug is very stupid, expensive and very disappointing compared to my old mac pro.
This seems like an attempt for mac to again force us to buy there products.
Mac please do us your dedicated users a favor and please fix this. Make a new plug.
I would like a HMDI to Mini DisplayPort. Think that would work better.

I purchased the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect my MacBook to our Toshiba Regza 52" flat screen TV to show the iphoto slideshow of my son at his graduation party. A huge success! One lessons learned was that I initially did not unplug our HD cable from our Toshiba and plugged in the PC cable into the TV. It initially did not work and I was so frustrated. I thought it was because it was a Mac vs. PC, however my PC did not work either. I unplugged the HD connection from my PC and my Mac projected perfectly with the adapter. Mac's iphoto slideshow with music is very easy to use and looks very professional. I also purchased the audio adapter to have the music I selected from my iTunes library to sync with the slide show play on our surround sound.

I feel Apple designers have foregone practicality of use for aesthetics.
The adapter provided does not fit conventional vga plugs securley.
The shoulder around the female plug prevents the use of standard fittings, leaving the screws unable to attach the two plugs together without the use of oversized screws. I have tried both supplied Data Projectors/Monitor cables from Sony and Canon with no avail. As well we use custom made leads for the projector these plugs and these are even more problematic due to the retaining flange that holds the plug plate in place.

On the hole a poor design to the adapter. A recent outside presenter attended the school to give a presentation with their MacBook Pro and I had to hold the two plugs together with rubber bands. The adapters we had with the standard MacBooks before had the female socket standing proud and did not give any problems.
As it is now the Ministry of Education position for supplying MacBook Pros in the future for Teachers I see the problem increasing.

I feel that the adapters plugs have always had a weak link at both ends of these adapters plugs, due to the weight of cable connections and attaching plug. This puts a tremendous pressure on the Mac adapter interface and defiantly needs a redesign quickly.

The Mini Display Port is a failed product, as you can discover when you type in "flicker" and the name of the product into Google and see how many hits you get. That Apple continues to sell this is a real stain on their reputation. And yes, I applied the "fix" that Apple has offered, and it had no effect. I also took my laptop to a "genius," who ran some tests and declared it in tip-top shape. I find that sometimes tightening the screws on the connection helps, but only temporarily. Unless Apple comes up with a genuine fix to this, I think those of us who have computers with this port will have to accept that external displays are not going to work. (Well, they seem to work for some people. But clearly you are taking a gamble - read the reviews, and do the Google search...)

The product works as advertised. I've used one for 3 years with no issues. The reviewer who said to read his/her review before wasting your time and money mistakenly purchased the wrong product due to a misunderstanding.

If you have a recent iMac (not the quad-core version) you have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. This is different from an Intel Core Duo processor which was used in the first Intel iMac (Early 2006) model. The claim from Apple is that this adapter will work with the early 2006 model iMac, the first MacBook (also from 2006), and 12-inch PowerBook G4 (the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is the model which might cause some confusion as there was one 12" model in early 2003 that had a mini-VGA out and a later 2003 12" model that used a mini-DVI out). These ports have changed as technologies change and advance, and Apple is always at the forefront of new and improved technologies. The newer iMacs use a mini-DisplayPort video out which requires Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter.

Apple can and should do a better job of alerting people to these differences, but I would suggest that you call an Apple Store and ask for guidance if you are unsure about the compatibility of a product or if you are unfamiliar with the technology. I hope this helps.

This adapter was just what I needed to connect my new MacBook to our Toastmasters club's Epson projector. The projector's VGA cable plugged into the VGA adapter securely enough without my having to use the screws.

Overall, its a good product. It's aesthetically pleasing, an fits right into the mini display port. The actual connections and color is also very good. However, when attaching the VGA Cable, it does not always stay attached, even with the screws. Most of the time it fits, but sometimes, when plugged into certain cables, and Smart Boards, it wont stay connected and I have to put a pice of tape around it, then it is fine and doesn't give me any trouble. Its a very good cord, and worth the money. Don't let one person's bad review not make you buy this, or a Mac. They work perfectly and come in handy.

I had an Apple Expert help me with finding the correct adaptor for my computer, all I had to do was hit the little "Chat Now" icon on the top-left of the page. Expert was quick and friendly and helped me find exactly what I needed. I bought the adaptor and used the the next day, and it worked to perfection. No complaints here.

I work with the media department of our church. We have bought several of these adapter and none of them have ever failed.
