    No image anymore

    I bought this adapter in February 2009 and used it to connect my unibody macbook to:
    1. Panasonic PT AE500 Projector
    2. Samsung 42" Plasma
    3. My External 19" LG LCD

    I worked for the first four days with the projector. Then it stopped working.
    I then tried the TV and the Monitor as well, no dice. In system preferences the screen is not detected at all. I have tried different cables and monitors.

    When I try to upgrade the firmware (Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_Firmware_Update) it says my monitor needs to be connected for the upgrade. It is. But the Mac won't detect the screen.

    This adapter works great with my 23 inch acer monitor. Oh and to the person who said it only shows your screen saver, try dragging a window to the right! thats how it works.

    Piece of junk

    Such a junky piece of hardware. Dropping the analog output and only putting DVI-D through. Do they want to have people buy two overpriced adapters, one for VGA and one for DVI?! It seems so :(

    Great Product!

    This product was just what I expected. It worked great with all of the displays that I have used it for so far. It even worked for my Samsung T.V. the first time I tried. Overall this product was a very satisfying buy and I am glad I purchased it! I would greatly encourage you to buy this if you are debating about purchasing this product.

    Skeptical, but bought anyways

    So I read all the reviews and a ton of people seem to be having trouble with this adapter. It worked on my Sony WEGA Bravia 40" without any issues. I plugged the VGA cable into the adapter first and then plugged it into my unibody macbook 13". The screen on the laptop blinked and the imaged displayed on the tv. So far so good...keeping my fingers crossed

    "short" term use

    i bougt this 4 months ago. it worked great at first but the vga has a short. it seems the adapter was made poorley . if there is a cheeper alternative i strongly suggest looking into it. brand isn't everything.

    I must say i'm quite impressed with the adapter. While I was disappointed that Apple charges $30+ for it and it really should be provided as standard with a new Macbook Pro, that's a whole other story. i have used it on my 2009 13" MBP, Pioneer 507 XDA plasma, 32" LCD TV, various data projectors and never had a problem with it. My experience is It doesn't matter if the MBP is on or off, or whether the tv is on or off, it just seems to work. Also, cloning the MBP display or extending the screen is simple and never causes a problem.
    The only problem i've had with it is if i let the MBP go into 'sleep' mode, disconnect the adapter and 'wake' the MBP, sometimes i can't get a picture back on the MBP and have to restart it. It was never a problem with OS X Snow Leopard, only with Lion; so i'm blaming Lion for this problem.

    Really good

    Try to connect your mac with any video and you'll be very satisfied of this. You can instantaneously get two screen in which work - you can drag and drop your open windows directly on the other screen - and naturally mirror your desktop if you want. 4 stars because although it is really a good product costs too much.

    Bummer

    I have a Samsung display that has worked perfectly with my 2008 imac. But now, using the adapter and a new powerbook, I can't get the proper resolution on my external display. It is no longer being recognized properly.

    Rubbish

    My old MacBook pro played nicely with both my Xerox external monitor and Toshiba TV. The image was crisp and sharp, not as good as the MacBook screen but pretty good nonetheless.

    With my new MacBook Pro plus this adapter my external monitor looks rubbish. The screen is off centre, the resolution is stretched (yes I've tried different settings and continue to search the forums for a fix) and text is really blurry. As for the TV I get nothing, nada. A blank screen and a 'Video format not supported' error message.

    This is all rather poor and annoying. I expect better from Apple for the sort of prices we pay - please sort it out!

    Doesn't Last!

    Works great if you're only planning to use it on occasion. If you're planning to use it on a daily basis, you better bring a back-up! I purchased 25 for my business 4 months ago and have already had to replace 6. Not so good. I'd recommend looking into a non-Apple product.

    connectors cant be secured

    The housing shoulder it to large. when connecting a cable the screws don't even reach the threads inside the housing. this is a very poor housing design. it dose what they say it dose but i would not trust this adapter during an important presentation. you have no way to secure the connector to your cable because the screws just wont reach.

    Works Flawlessly

    I use this cable with a late-2008 MacBook aluminum and NEC 1770GX. I watch movies/videos on the NEC while surfing the internet on my MacBook. It works perfectly. Set up was negligible -- just a minute to plug in the cable. Refreshingly simple and highly recommended.

    This product works perfectly, exactly as it's supposed to. Now, I've only used this on my external monitors of various sizes, no TVs, but it works great.

    So like some other reviewers, I'm not sure why this thing doesn't have a higher rating.

    Junk!

    This adapter is so sensitive that if I breathe wrong it will disconnect from the back of my mac mini. The result is i lose my Samsung Syncmaster 225bw monitor and cant get it back short of holding a voodoo ceremony. What a pain!

    Does what it's supposed to, almost…

    I bought the VGA adapter to avoid getting multiple adapters (monitor is DVI and VGA in, but need VGA for projectors). I figured an adapter should just work, why would there be issues?

    Every few minutes my screen goes black for a few seconds (I am running an external 22" at 1680x1050, I don't know if that would be the reason). The old ADC -> VGA adapter on my 800 MHz iBook worked just dandy. This should do the same.

    I have yet to hook it up to a projector, I'll see what happens then.
