    Can't Play Itunes because of "High bandwidth digital content protection"

    You can't play itunes videos through it. I wish I could leave a review of less than 1 star. To play HD itunes videos you need a HDCP connection, aka digital. Screen output should be cut and dry. Once the computer outputs analog video, it should have nothing more to do with it and it should be able to play all files through it. Other HD videos play just fine, it is just a problem with itunes being overcomplicated. Don't buy this if you want to have anything to do with itunes videos.

    Like others who've posted here, I'm having to return this item because it's the wrong size for my MacBook. Before ordering, I checked 'About this computer' but it didn't say what kind of display hardware I had (just told me that no display was connected), so I examined the photos of the adapter and, as it looked the same as the display port on my MacBook, I assumed that it would fit okay. When it arrived, though, it was way too small (mini, I guess).

    So, for anyone who has a plain old white MacBook like mine - it DOES NOT HAVE A MINI DISPLAY PORT, so don't waste your time and money ordering this.

    I feel annoyed with Apple for not explaining the difference between an ordinary display port and a mini one. I'm not a techie and I don't want to have to go and dig out all the literature before buying a small accessory - I expect there to be enough information within the product description for me to make the right choice.

    And I still don't know which (if any) adapter's compatible with my MacBook.

    Doesn't carry the quality Apple is know for...

    I've bought 2 of these adapters, and both burned out within the first 4 months of using them. What is really awful about this situation, is that you are forced to either continually buy these adapters, or purchase an Apple TV so you can use airplay mirroring. Apple should really improve the quality of their adapters. As awesome as airplay is, there are still many people whom use VGA cables. Requires much less setup time, than connecting an Apple TV to wifi. Especially if you travel and do presentations. I will not buy another adapter until they have improved the quality.

    "short" term use

    i bougt this 4 months ago. it worked great at first but the vga has a short. it seems the adapter was made poorley . if there is a cheeper alternative i strongly suggest looking into it. brand isn't everything.

    Unreliable ...

    Like others, I too work as a traveling teacher in a school district that uses a lot of Apple hardware. I have also been through three of these adapters since the school year started. They all just stopped working. At what... 40 bucks a pop, with no useable tech budget, that adds up fast. I wish I could recommend an alternative! Tough to recover from 30 blank stares when the lesson starts and the tech doesn't work...

    Shorted out

    The adapter shorted out just before a public presentation. Unreliability isn't cool. I suggest Apple sell these in pacts of six, and at the current price of 1.

    Burnt Out Within 9 Months

    I used this thing a lot and it eventually burnt out like a bad fuse. As best I can tell, all brands are equally worthless. I expected it to last as long as my macbook will, but it looks like this is just the beginning, and I'll be replacing these adapters until someone gets it right.

    Unreliable

    I am a university professor and I use my adapter three times a week, four hours a day. I have gone through three in since September. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't...not a good situation when you have to lecture to 200+ students and there are no images to display.

    I'm so frustrated. We love Apple in our school district but these adapters wear out so quickly. The last two that we purchased didn't even last two months. Very disappointing.

    Not Working Expensive Peripherals

    I have a LG LED LCD TV model 32LS4600.ATR
    When I was told that mini display port to HDMI converter will enable me to watch streaming videos on internet on my TV screen, I purchased one. However, the audio is absent. I have tried almost all tricks within my knowledge but to no avail. The video is excellent but no audio. Now I am advised that since a VGA input is available in the TV, I should buy MDP2VGA converter cable and watch the video and for the audio I should connect the TV through another cable. I want to know whether Mini Display Port carries audio signal or not. My Mac Book Pro is Mid 2012 model.

    Doesn't work with MBP Retina

    I bought this at New York along with my MBP Retina. I asked the apple guy if it would work with the Thunderbolt port and he said it would. Well it doesn't. This was a waste of my money. It works on MBP but not on MBP Retina. USELESS.

    does not function with my Mac Mini

    I am at the point of losing hope in making this adaptor work with my mac mini. I would really appreciate it if I could get some help to make better use of the portability of the mac mini and connect it to a projector. By the way, I have two mac minis 2010 and 2011 and I have used other adaptors as well but was always disappointed.. They work fine with DVI but never with VGA.
    Still hoping for some support

    It worked fine at first, then one day as I was disconnection it from the MiniDisplay port on my MacBook Pro, the plastic came apart from the wire slightly. It still works but now there are lines across my secondary monitor and when I first plug it in, I have to wiggle the wire around for a minute in order to get the other screen to turn on. If I bump into it on accident, the secondary monitor will lose signal and turn off momentarily.

    Compared to other Apple products, this adapter is very low quality.

    Does not work with any of the 6 samsung tv's I have at home. On other brands, just fine! Next step, I'll be dumping my iphone for a galaxy! C'mon guys!

    Can not output to projector with this and MacBook Air 11" 2012

    MacBook Air 11" 2012 has only one Thunderbolt port, and my "old" Mini-display to VGA convert cable is able plugging in. It was so disappointed, while I done this, nothing appeared on the projector screen and flashing with "non compatible signal". What's going on, is Thunderbolt different to Mini-display?

    Issues with new macbookpro

    I'm having similar issues with my macbook pro since June when I bought it. Eventually fed up, I took the macbook pro back. The geniuses at the Apple store could not find the problem so they sent it somewhere else to be evaluated. Once there, they put in a new hard drive and system board. Guess what, still having the same problem. Using the same cable on my old macbook never presented this problem. If I restart the computer it freezes and won't boot. I'm beginning to regret the purchase of my $1,600 computer when I could've bought a cheaper one that works. Quality is definitely suffering since the service at the genius bar only made me mad when they basically told me that if they can't simulate the problem in the store I'm out of luck. Maybe this review is more of a reflection of the macbook pro itself and not the adaptor. But, when I buy any product especially from Apple (with premium prices), I expect it to work consistently. This is far from my experience.

    MBA 2012

    Doesn't work properly on 2012 MBA with majority of monitors & projectors. The only workaround is to shutdown and restart with the monitor connected. This means that this is a software issue (not hardware) and it appears that Apple is not working for a driver update. Without solution I will return my MBA and return to WINDOWS.....

    Does not work on older gen monitor

    Bought to plug into Panasonic 42" monitor and it does not work, tested vga and monitor with PC and it worked fine.

    Return wire not sure why it wont work the same.

    Avoid if you are not using it with apple hardware. Waste of time and $.
