Finally got it to work! With a Samsung monitor widescreen.

This thing doesn't make much sense. It only works if the picture of the monitor on the adapter is facing up. But it fits in the Thunderbolt jack either way. I've tried three monitors and I was about to go back to the store when I tried it one more time and decided to flip the adapter over. I wonder how many people just gave up.

It worked for the first six months, last few have been a disaster. It doesn't work that well. Probably going to need a replacement one.

i'm very disappointed. I spent the whole day trying to connect it from my macbook pro to my samsung monitor with no luck. I thought I was doing something wrong. I took the mini displayport to VGA adapter out and connected the screen to my hp laptop and it worked right away. So It seems like the problem is with the mini displayport. It says that its not connected. I'm not sure what the problem is but I wouldn't recommend it. Hope apple fixes the problem.

I was very scared of the bad reviews related to this product, but the one I got works PERFECTLY... I have not had ANY problems, it has been smashed to the floor about 10 times from a 1 meter high table and it steel works.
I've tested on VGA projectors (3M mostly), Plasma Tv (Lg), LCD Tv (Panasonic) and everyting was good... Sometimes, depending on the sharpness of the Tv or how close you are to the screen, a rainy/grain effect can be noted, but nothing disturbing from 3 meters away...

    Disappointing - Works with difficulties

The sockets in the VGA end are set in too deep and on majority of cables the screws in the plugs cannot catch the tread, resulting in the connection not being secure at all. The smallest movement of the cables cause break in connection.
In terms of compatibility, it works with all VGA devises including projectors.

You are all complaining about the adapter not working on your TV or that it is not compatible with large resolutions. but if you go back to the description it doesn't say TV anywhere. it worked fine for me on my monitor and guess what it never broke!

    Dissapointing...... No support for 1920x1440

Bought a new mac mini to use it with my home theater setup. Old mac mini with the intel graphics chipset can do up to 1920x1440 on analog VGA output. (via dvi to vga adapter). New setup with this cable can do max 1920x1200.... And even that doesnt work properly. Signals seem to be distorted....

    Waste of money.

They Don't Last And They're Expensive

I'm at a public school full of Macs. The preview adaptors lasted forever and were only 20 bucks. Now this one is 30 bucks and I've lost 3 so far this year. They just die. Not what you want in an public educations setting where funds are tight. Just a complication and they fall out...I could go on and on.

    Works perfect, over priced

The adapter works perfect for projects and presentations with my MacBook, never had a problem with it. The only problem is the price. I use to have the old black MacBook and at that point the adapter was $25, still expensive and overpriced, but not as bad as $34 for basically the same thing for a new computer.

However, being on Stage Crew for school and running assemblies and doing presentations for classes, this was a mandatory buy because macs do not have ports suitable for projector cables.

This cable would not be necessary if Apple would put a VGA port on their macs like every PC has, its just a cash grab.

I had an Apple Expert help me with finding the correct adaptor for my computer, all I had to do was hit the little "Chat Now" icon on the top-left of the page. Expert was quick and friendly and helped me find exactly what I needed. I bought the adaptor and used the the next day, and it worked to perfection. No complaints here.

It is not working for me

This item is giving me a lot of headaches since I cannot get it to work with my new macbook... I have tried with 4 different monitors and at least 6 VGA cables and the best result that I got was a single day of trouble-free video, the first day.. after that it's been a nightmare and the monitors keep turning off and on, or not turning on at all.

I've tried everything that I could think off: the firmware update (that is not working for me), software updates, restarting, shutting down, searching the forums for hours looking for a solution and even posting my own (still unanswered) question in the support forums.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buying this product until the company comes up with a solution, there seem to be many people with the same issue.

I have gotten mine to work with my samsung 32 inch tv, i think the main trick is to plug the adapter in first to the vga cable, then you plug it in to the mac...

    Useless under Boot Camp

    • Written by from Seattle

I've tried to connect my MirrorBook Pro (2.53 GHz) to an external display under Boot Camp in XP, and then Vista. XP refuses to drive the monitor at any higher than 800x600. Under Vista it's even worse - max of 640x480. This was *AFTER* applying the Firmware update.

Working on an external monitor was to be my primary method of using this machine, as the shiny screen is good for migraines and not much else.

I have, no joke, 6 Apple video dongles that I've accumulated over the years. This is far and away the worst of the bunch, and the most trouble I've had trying to get a Mac to talk to a monitor, ever.

I just bought a new 13" 2.4GHz MacBook unibody along with this adapter. I was trying to connect my Samsung 32" LCD to my computer, and needless to say, the TV does not even recognize the MacBook. This is my first Mac, so it definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth and doesn't give me too much confidence in the reliability of other Apple peripherals. This is an absolute joke-- frustrating and disappointing. I just wish I could rate this zero stars.

    monitor re-syncing

    • Written by from Saskatoon

I have tried this on 4 different monitors 3/4 would re-sync after around 5-10mins of use and then repeat. this gets extremely annoying when doing some work and your screen goes blank then turns back on in around 2 seconds.
