    Freeze Frame

    • Written by from Atlanta

With Macbook Pro (late 08), external VGA displays are basically unusable unless you close the lid. Otherwise, Video Res will be the same as laptops, and it freezes up if it goes to sleep or if you pull adapter out. Must also plug adapter in and boot, otherwise it freezes up. If you plug it in after booting, forget it.

Very disappointing, wish Apple would fix this, otherwise the Macbook Pro is very nice...

    Don't buy

    • Written by from Houston

It just doesn't work. Screen is waving, changing colors. Often I cannot even choose the resolution I want for my external screen. I've tried with two diffrent screens, and none of them worked good. This cable behaves like the worst Microsoft product and Apple pretends not to see it.

    Simply didn't work

I bought this to hook up my new macbook to projectors. Tried to hook it up to a Dell projector and although the macbook seemed to recognize the display, the projector just kept displaying "searching for signal." Would love to find a solution.

    Very dissapointed

    • Written by from Fairbanks

I just bought a brand new mac book with this adapter hoping that I would be able to hook it up to the 23 inch samsung syncmaster 2333HD display I got for Christmas. The computer seems to acknowledge the monitor, having the correct name on the window when I hit "detect display" but the display will only read "check signal cable" the display works with other computers and even the vga adapter on my 2005 ibook. The macbook adapter works with my old crt external but not with this new display. This seems to be something of a trend based on the other reviews and I am very dissapointed. I'm going to try and see if the dvi adapter works but still, very disappointing. This is unacceptable.

    Rubbish

    • Written by from Putney

Just acquired a new Macbook pro (really nice bit of kit). Connected it to my Samsung 22" monitor via this converter. Now get the old blank sync screen every five mins. Makes me want to put my head through the screen. Is there anything I can do to fix this?... After reading the other reviews appears not. Please fix this Apple!

    Sorta...

    • Written by from Springfield

Connects to my HP 24" LCD monitor. However, even at the highest resolution setting (which is native to my monitor) the picture is not completely sharp. I also experience the intermittent blackouts every 3-5 minutes. This is a major problem that needs to be fixed ASAP. Apple needs to get busy. This setup is unusable!

    Absolute Joke

    • Written by from orland park

I just bought a new 13" 2.4GHz MacBook unibody along with this adapter. I was trying to connect my Samsung 32" LCD to my computer, and needless to say, the TV does not even recognize the MacBook. This is my first Mac, so it definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth and doesn't give me too much confidence in the reliability of other Apple peripherals. This is an absolute joke-- frustrating and disappointing. I just wish I could rate this zero stars.

Blinking monitor with my Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

    • Written by from Denens

    Dear Apple,
I am fan of your products, but this is getting strangely disappointing.

I have a 26" Benq monitor, and with my previous MB Pro it was already pretty complicated to synchronize it in full external screen definition. You needed a trick: put the Mac in standby, then open and close fast, etc...

Now, with my new MB Pro and the Mini Displayport to vga adapter, not only you didn't fix this problem, but I am experiencing constant blinks (every 3-5 minutes).

I have noticed that there are many other unanswered complaints regarding this matter.

I am tired of searching for forums throughout the net; is there any way I can get a feedback about this?

    THANKS

    unibody/aluminum macbook 2.4GHz

    • Written by

AFTER purchasing the MB572Z/A miniport/VGA dongle with my new FB467LL/A macbook - the one with the "advanced" nVidia GeForce 9400M set, I read in the user's guide (p.66) that "Note: Your MacBook supports external display resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 on Apple DVI displays and up to 1600 x 1200 on VGA displays." Bullocks!
The nVidia set supports "Maximum VGA Resolution 2048x1536".
I can't fault this piece of hardware for Apple's lousy implementation of this "brand-new, industry-standard port". Or can I? Will I have to pay $50 for a "better" version of this later? I'll be counting the days I have left to RMA my macbook -

    monitor re-syncing

    • Written by from Saskatoon

I have tried this on 4 different monitors 3/4 would re-sync after around 5-10mins of use and then repeat. this gets extremely annoying when doing some work and your screen goes blank then turns back on in around 2 seconds.

Beware - Certain Monitors Have Problems With This Adapter

    • Written by from HAYWARDS HEATH

I bought a new Alu MacBook back in November 2008. After a few weeks I decided to buy one of these adapters.
Every 5 mins or so my screen goes black for 2-3 seconds before coming back on. This has been mentioned by other reviewers here but just wanted to add this is a common problem.
I have called AppleCare and been into Apple Stores too many times. Apple do not appear to even acknowledge there is a problem! Look on Apple's own Forums and you will see the numbers having issues. I would stay clear until Apple fix the issue.

    No go with Samsung LCD

    • Written by from Ottawa

Thought I would put in my two cents. I purchased this adapter in order to use it with my 46" LCD Samsung only to have the same problem as most people here.

Macbook detects the TV but the TV can't detect the macbook. I tried many things with no success. I called Apple and they told me that I would have to call Samsung to see what they could do since it was a problem at their end (I don't believe that for a second).

I'm hoping for a firmware/driver update that can fix this. Otherwise, when Monoprice comes out with their mini display port to HDMI adapter, I'll just buy that instead.

    Another problem with Samsung TV

    • Written by from Thorold

I have a Samsung 530 series LCD tv and this adapter doesn't work with my macbook. The display system preferences panel detects that it's a Samsung tv, but the TV doesn't detect a signal. I tried an older macbook with the mini-DVI to vga adapter and it works perfectly, so it seems like apple messed up on this one. I have yet to see whether any display works. I hope it's just a software thing.
