Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Disappointing
Written by AP from Burr Ridge
Oct 17, 2008
I can not get this thing to output to my Samsung LN-4042H 40 inch LCD. The old miniDVI to VGA worked no problem with my old MacBook. I have checked and it is not a TV problem, so certainly something hardware or driver related. Also $29.99 for a video dongle seems steep to me.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Does the job...but
Written by TC from Tucson
Oct 21, 2008
It works fine, but is overpriced and frankly scary. I enjoy the ease of a small and simple connector. It is easier than the DVI ports of old from Apple, but it borders on extremely breakable. It has the same problem as old iBook power connectors. It just seems like if I move my computer too much, it will break off in the port. I'd much prefer some sort of magnetic connector. Get on it Apple.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
monitor keeps re-syncing
Written by VP from san francisco
Oct 22, 2008
$29 is of course too much to pay for a video dongle.
on top of that, my monitor right now always keeps re-syncing (blanking out and then realizing that yes, it does have input). it could just be this monitor model (samsung syncmaster 216bw), but definitely does it on several different ones around the office.
i'm hoping that when the dvi one comes in the mail that it'll stop the constant blanking.21 of 25 people found this useful

Works perfectly

Output to my 22" Viewsonic is clear and crisp and setup with no effort. Seems to be of the same quality as the mini DVI to VGA adapter which I used everyday for a year with out incident on my old macbook. Should be priced in the 14.99 - 19.99 range.

Another user with Samsung issues

This connector also does not work with my Samsung LCD TV, at ANY resolution output. Model LN-T4065F.
I suppose I'll try the DVI version, then go DVI-->HDMI.26 of 29 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Doesn't work with Samsung TV
Written by JM from Bryn Mawr
Oct 25, 2008
I'm very disappointed with this. I bought a new MacBook last week and got the VGA adapter so I could use it with my TV as I did my old PowerBook G4 (via the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter). The new adapter worked fine when I connected it to an overhead projector, but it doesn't seem to send a readable signal to my Samsung LN40A650 television.
I tried booting in to Windows via Boot Camp and got the same result.
I guess I'll have to try the DVI adapter with a converter from DVI to HDMI to use this with my TV. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI (or even regular DisplayPort, which can be directly converted without using audio) would be ideal, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of that.864 of 1147 people found this useful

Doesn't work with Samsung SyncMaster 940MW monitor
Written by MR from Suffolk

No matter what resolution I try, the SyncMaster ignores the MacBook Pro. Like the other reviewers, I guess I'll have to try DVI. This is a 19" 1440x900 monitor which had no problems with the older Macbook and Powerbook.

Works great, only one nit
Written by RF from Alexander

Works fine in my experience with Apple Displays (not saying it doesn't work with others; I haven't had the chance to try it). My only complaint would be the short length -- I would like to see the cable about two to three times as long, or at least have Apple offer up the adapter in various lengths.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
pointless
Written by MR from bluemont

This is completely useless equipment. I opened this, plugged it in, and the computer is incapable of detecting my 24inch VG2030 monitor. Older Macbooks work just fine. If you own a new Macbook pro, chances are you can't use your VGA monitor. This is merely another attempt by apple to force us to buy THEIR products and not use our own.

I bought this after trying the Displayport to DVi, and then converting it to HDMI. The result was lots of interference and a poor connection, so i thought i'd "downgrade" to the VGA. IT DOESN"T EVEN WORK!! Seems like this new displayport is a scam to get people to purchase apple's monitors. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
A little expensive but works as expected
Written by JH from Pelham
Nov 6, 2008
Almost $30.00 seems a little high, but cheaper than a new monitor and dual screen desktops are the way to go.
I wish the lead on the adapter was a bit longer say 2 inches, with all the plugs on the left side of the aluminum MacBook, its a little cramped getting all the cables to fit nicely without a big rats nest of cables coming out the side of the MacBook.19 of 20 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Doesn't work
Written by CV from Markham
Nov 8, 2008
This adapter failed to recognize either of two separate external monitors (one is a Samsung 22" syncmaster and the other a 22" HansG). My new macbook pro failed to recognized anything as being attached. The Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, however, works for both montiors.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Screws won't attach - also had temporary issue with detection
Written by CD from Needham
Nov 10, 2008
The screws of my VGA connector don't reach the embedded nuts of the apple adapter, which are too far below the surface to be engaged by the screws. This is either poor quality of construction in my unit or poor design overall. However the adapter does have a decent friction fit so I'll keep it as trying to get another is a waste of my time (but writing an overly long review isn't, apparently).
I also had an initial problem with no monitor detection like other reviewers (I have a Samsung SyncMAster 192N) but after I rebooted, the monitor was detected. Furthermore, if I unplug and plug the adapter in, it will remove then re-detect the monitor. So I'm not sure if the detection problem is that of the adapter. Maybe it has to do with the video circuit. Again, works enough for me.25 of 27 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Disappointed (and embarrassed)
Written by HE from Parkland
Nov 20, 2008
So I picked up the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter for my new MacBook to give a presentation at work. I was connecting to a Samsung 52" HDTV display. Keep in mind, I've done dozens of presentations on my previous MacBook Pro with the standard DVI to VGA Adapter and it has always worked flawlessly. Well, needless to say, this new Adapter is worthless. I could not get it to work and, from the looks of the other reviews here, I'm not alone.
Thankfully, my colleague had his PC notebook (running Windows Vista, mind you) and I was able to give my presentation. Unfortunately, I had to convert my Keynote presentation to a PowerPoint presentation so it didn't come out as good. I'm the resident Mac user in the office, so you can imagine there were a lot of PC vs. Mac jokes going on that day.
I hope Apple Inc. is reading these reviews and will come up with a solution, i.e. firmware update, to get this adapter working. Otherwise, I'm back to using a PC at work. Ugh, I'm cringing at just the thought.97 of 101 people found this useful

Same problem as the others. Just flat-out DOES NOT WORK on Samsung TVs.
Gives me immense confidence, by the way, that the Dual-DVI adapter will work when it comes out 12 weeks late. NOT.20 of 22 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Doesn't detect displays and poor color and resolution
Written by DG from Oshkosh
Nov 24, 2008
I just got my new MBPro and had to present at a meeting. I assumed that this adapter would just be plug and play into a Panasonic LCD projector. I was wrong.
I plugged it in and chose (Detect Displays) which it did but the resolution and color were terrible. I grabbed my colleagues HP laptop and it worked just fine and the color was great.
Very concerned as I use this laptop for presentations and spent a lot of money on it. Thankfully my old Macbook Pro (which always worked) is still in my office so I can switch back. Disappointed.41 of 43 people found this useful
