Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Works perfectly fine for me.
Written by YV from Arlington
Nov 23, 2009
No issues. Plugged everything in and i worked. No loose connections or trouble that everyone else seems to have mentioned. Very secure. I use it every day to dock my MBP to a Dell LCD.
My only compaint that the adapter is even needed. Apple, I like you a lot, but play nicer with other manufactuers. Use more common technologies.3 of 3 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Good, but needs a firmware update
Written by LS from Oakland
Nov 5, 2009
This adapter worked quite well for me, but then it began cutting out
or flickering. I did a web search and learned that Apple now has a
firmware update for the adapter which you can download.
Just plug in your computer with its power supply and with the external
VGA display connected, and run Software Update. So this problem
might explain some of the less-than-positive reviews.31 of 36 people found this useful

Solid Product; Works Fine
Written by SR from Watsonville
Sep 28, 2009
This is a solid little cable that does what it says it will. I'm using an older Dell monitor, and there's no problems in terms of connection or image. My only gripe is the $30 price tag, but I like Apple and would rather pay a little more for their products than a little less for a third-party alternative.

It does what it is supposed to do
Written by TA from Tualatin

Works with my Samsung TV.
Design is better than old mini-DVI and mini-VGA versions, but I sure would have been happier if I didn't have to buy yet another adapter.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
works with new mac mini
Written by JM from Farmersville
Jun 28, 2009
Okay I got this mainly so I could use it with my old iogear kvm switch (vga only no dvi) and use my new 2009 mac mini and my pc machine at the same time.
First thing I did was connect it directly to my Acer x243w via vga cable to make sure it worked correctly and it did except that at 1900x1200 resolution part of the screen was cut off! So I tried the miniport firmware update on Apple's website but when I ran it it said I already had a newer firmware 1.03 and the one I downloaded was only 1.0.
Anyways, that didn't help so I got the bright idea of manually hitting the autoadjust button on my LCD monitor and that did the trick and got the screen recentered at 1900x1200! The display looks as sharp and clear as using the default DVI that the mini comes with and no strange flickering or any other problems mentioned by others.
So after all that I tried my old KVM switch and it also works great still so I"m happy since I can now use my mac and pc at the same time. Also can now use 2 monitors with my macmini now ;)
Reason I knocked off a star was for high price and plastic where screws are supposed to go in don't work too good.

At first I was disappointed. It wouldnt work on my 40 inch Samsung, but I was able to fix it. Now, it works fine. By going to Sytem Preference-Display-(DETECT DISPLAY and fool around with GATHER WINDOW), I was able to make it work. Hopefully this will help you guys out.

The Problem with Reviews
Written by RK from Richardson
May 14, 2009
The problem with product reviews is most people who submit reviews are those with a problem. This products works fine. Plugged it in and it worked. A product this simple is not usually commented on because there is not much to go wrong. I read a few reviews before I bought it but I had no problems. Does what it is supposed to do.

Try updating the firmware of the Mini Displayport to VGA adapter to fix the intermittent black issues from Apple Support. Use the latest firmware, May 6, 2009 or later.

Complete plug and play device.
Written by CR from Marietta
Apr 14, 2009
I purchased this adapter so that I could extend my MacBook Pro display onto an old NEC 1770V LCD. As soon as I plugged everything in, the Mac instantly recognized the device and brought up the display settings. Two or three clicks later, everything was running perfectly fine.
My only complaint is the price. $30 is a little much, but I'm completely satisfied with the product.26 of 30 people found this useful

Use with Samsung 2333HD Monitor
Written by NB from Hailey
Mar 18, 2009
I got this adapter and bought a new 2333HD monitor to use with it. I couldn't get it to work with my old monitors cable and was thinking I would need to convert to HDMI as mentioned in other reviews. When I got to the store I saw there was a VGA cable for monitors over 17" in size. I went ahead and tried it and worked great. This product works just make sure you have the right cables to go with it.

Don't use VGA for an HDTV, use DVI/HDMI!
Written by MA from Littleton
Mar 11, 2009
This adapter works well with my HP w2007 20" LCD monitor. The picture is crisp and steady. It's hard to distinguish from a DVI connection.
I do find it's best to let the monitor sync itself when I plug it in and then just leave it and not fuss with it. If I hit the monitor's "Auto Sync" button the result is often a blurry display. If this happens, unplugging and plugging the adapter fixes it, as does performing a "factory reset" using my monitor's menu. I suggest trying these things if your monitor is having trouble getting a good sync.
For those of you having trouble using this to connect a MacBook to an HDTV, let me offer this advice: Your HDTV probably has an HDMI port, so that's what you should be using, not VGA. Get the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and also a DVI to HDMI cable. You will get a far better result. I use this method to connect my MacBook to a Panasonic HDTV and it works beautifully. Please, do yourself a favor and do not use the VGA port if your HDTV has HDMI (or DVI). Hope that helps!

Does the job
Written by TA from Portland
Mar 10, 2009
When I migrated to the aluminum MacBook I was disappointed I had to buy yet another display adapter and that there wasn't one for SVGA. That said, the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter lets me continue using my inexpensive ViewSonic monitor and has always worked reliably. One of the sockets doesn't seem to accommodate the thumbscrew from the VGA cable but it hasn't affected performance as far as I can tell.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Worked perfectly
Written by MB from Forest Hills
Feb 26, 2009
After reading the other reviews, I thought this was going to be a disaster. I'm using it with a ViewSonic video projector.
I plugged the adapter into the Mac (15" MBP current model), plugged the projector cable into the adapter, the Mac immediately recognized the projector. I went into the utility to mirror the screens (which was not the default), it knocked the resolution on the projector down to one the projector could handle. This was all displayed in the Monitors dropdown in the toolbar. And everything worked absolutely perfectly.
Yes, it doesn't look anywhere near as good on the projector as it does on the Mac. What a surprise. And this is the Mac's problem why??
My only complaint is that $29.95 is a bit expensive, but all Apple cables are absurdly expensive.

I am new to MAC and just got my macbook a week ago. I've already used this adapter on 2 different projectors for different presentations I have given. It worked without any problems. I just hooked it up and it worked. Very simple (and I am definitely not computer savvy).

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Works as advertised
Written by AM from Halifax
Jan 13, 2009
This dongle worked as advertised. I picked up the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter for my new Apple Macbook (unibody) 2.0GHz machine, and connected it to two seperate Samsung 20" 206BW monitors, and both functioned fine over VGA. My reason for only using VGA was that both of the monitors are currently tied up in a dual-monitor setup through DVI to my PC, so this was easy to do and I could just click "Source" to move over to my Mac.
After reading all the reviews I was hesitant, but I figured i'd give it a try for the sake of hoping it would work, and it does (for now). If your only choice is VGA, this will likely work for you (fingers crossed).14 of 20 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Works but.....
Written by JP from Woodbridge
Jan 3, 2009
The adaptor works, but why not simply make a mini display port to hdmi cable? It would be cheaper and eliminate the big ugly connector needed to hook 2 disparate cables together. Come on Apple. After creating the beauty that is the new MacBook, you shortcut the cables?

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to VGA Monitor
Written by WG from Carrollton
Dec 23, 2008
I'm using the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect my new MacBook to an old, but perfectly functional, Nokia 446XPro 19" CRT. It works at all supported resolutions through 1600 x 1200 @ 65 Hz just fine (I use it at 1280 x 1024 @ 85 Hz). The picture on the CRT looks slightly less sharp than my old iBookG4 did at the same resolution, but not enough to spring for a new Apple LED Cinema Display (yet).
I haven't connected it to any other monitor.9 of 10 people found this useful

I am using this adaptor with Macbook Air and have no problem with it. However, it is bigger and more expensive than other previous adaptors (mini DVI-VGA or micro DVI-VGA).
