Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Solid Product; Works Fine
Written by SR from Watsonville

This is a solid little cable that does what it says it will. I'm using an older Dell monitor, and there's no problems in terms of connection or image. My only gripe is the $30 price tag, but I like Apple and would rather pay a little more for their products than a little less for a third-party alternative.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Nothing better!
Written by AM from Johns Creek

Nothing beats original accessories for any manufacturer. This adapter is good quality and works perfectly. I use it with my Sony TV and numerous computer monitors all the time. It's as if there is no adapter. A must buy for those who need a good adapter.

Design Flaw: Check before buying!
Written by SN from Hawthorne
Sep 19, 2009
The adapter cannot be secured to a VGA cable. You can tell just by looking at the holes; the first few millimeters of the holes are smooth plastic and the threads are recessed. This results in the adapter not having the ability to be secured to the cable, and every time it moves, the video becomes distorted. After discovering the flaw, I went back to the Apple store and looked at the rest of the Mini DisplayPort VGA adapters...they all had the same flaw. Wait until they fix this before you buy one.

Does the job. Too expensive (but it's not like I had a choice).

Cable "works" but has issues
Written by AL
Sep 14, 2009
This cable does the job but the connector screws to the VGA don't fit properly and I needed to use electrical tape to keep them together.
Also, I work at a College and we provide these adapters for student loan. It is VERY frustrating to purchase a new $34.00 adapter every 4 months because Apple keeps changing the "standard".10 of 13 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Works great
Written by GC from Austin

I bought a 46" Samsung LCD yesterday and today decided it was time to see how my MacBook looked on it. I see a few reviews of people having issues connecting it to Samsung TVs. Not sure if my model just lacks the issues others are having or if they are doing something wrong. The all I had to do to make it work was connect Mini-Disp to VGA adapter, connect VGA cable from that adapter to back of TV, change TV source to "PC", and change the display settings on my MacBook to mirror the display. Looks great to me!

Just got a Macbook Pro 13" and the adapter works seamlessly with my projector. There were non in the Apple Store by my house and I was told that it didn't exist by a genius there, but I found it online and it works well. :)

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Works but is poorly engineered
Written by JG from Hawthorn Woods
Aug 29, 2009
The adapter works, but it adds to the clutter due to apple's putting all the connectors on the left. To make up for the poor placement of the display port, this cable should be at least a foot long to get some of the clutter behind the computer. the display port (usually always connected when on the desktop) is the front most port, getting in the way of the USB ports (which usually get plugged in and out). A 3-6 foot cable would be better to clean the cable mess.

Outstanding!

I just bought a new 15" Macbook Pro in July 2009 and I wanted to hook up the monitor from my HP Desktop. After reading all of the reviews on this site I was very skeptical about this product, but I decided to buy it anyway. It worked perfectly. All of the connectors fit snug and flush without effort, and the Macbook Pro detected and turned on the HP monitor in seconds. I didn't have to open system preferences or change any settings. It was truly plug and play.

Overpriced - underperforming

I was using the miniDVI to VGA adapter on my Macbook (black) just fine with a Hanspree 21 inch HDMI display. I recently got a Macbook pro and the old adapter didn't fit on the Mini Displayport on the Pro so got this VGA adapter. Now the text is fuzzy as I type this and it just doesn't work as well.

Poorly designed connectors
Written by CY from Los Angeles

I do a lot of video work and these adapters don't securely connect to most VGA cables I've used. The two threaded holes are too deeply recessed so the VGA cable bolts don't connect (sorry for the weird terminology, but Apple appears to have censors that block the word "s see are ee double u). I end up needing to tape the two cables ends together to keep them attached.I never had this problem with Apple's DVI/VGA adapters. My recommendation: don't waste your money.

Works perfectly with my VGA monitor and my company's overhead projector. Caution: This is NOT a TV adapter, it is an adapter for a VGA compatible monitor.

Does not work.

I previously had my HP PC connected to my Vizio TV which worked fine. When I connected the MacBook via the adaptor it showed my screen saver but nothing else. I tried to modify the display characteristics e.g. refresh rate in the system preferences but could not get it to work. I can't find anything online to help either.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Beautiful
Written by DR from Derry
Aug 3, 2009
I use the adapter primarily for connecting to projectors for keynote presentations and, as you might expect, it works perfectly for that. Recently, I tried using it to connect to my Toshiba Regza 42RV535U 42" 1080p tv, and it is fantastic. I'm streaming Netflix movies with ease in beautiful quality and using every inch of screen space.
What can I say, it does what it's supposed to do. Not sure what all the negative reviews are about (unless of course your adapter is DOA, in which case just have it replaced).

Works with my Samsung TV.
Design is better than old mini-DVI and mini-VGA versions, but I sure would have been happier if I didn't have to buy yet another adapter.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
works with new mac mini
Written by JM from Farmersville
Jun 28, 2009
Okay I got this mainly so I could use it with my old iogear kvm switch (vga only no dvi) and use my new 2009 mac mini and my pc machine at the same time.
First thing I did was connect it directly to my Acer x243w via vga cable to make sure it worked correctly and it did except that at 1900x1200 resolution part of the screen was cut off! So I tried the miniport firmware update on Apple's website but when I ran it it said I already had a newer firmware 1.03 and the one I downloaded was only 1.0.
Anyways, that didn't help so I got the bright idea of manually hitting the autoadjust button on my LCD monitor and that did the trick and got the screen recentered at 1900x1200! The display looks as sharp and clear as using the default DVI that the mini comes with and no strange flickering or any other problems mentioned by others.
So after all that I tried my old KVM switch and it also works great still so I"m happy since I can now use my mac and pc at the same time. Also can now use 2 monitors with my macmini now ;)
Reason I knocked off a star was for high price and plastic where screws are supposed to go in don't work too good.
