Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Rubbish
Written by RW from Putney
Feb 6, 2009
Just acquired a new Macbook pro (really nice bit of kit). Connected it to my Samsung 22" monitor via this converter. Now get the old blank sync screen every five mins. Makes me want to put my head through the screen. Is there anything I can do to fix this?... After reading the other reviews appears not. Please fix this Apple!

Sorta...
Written by PK from Springfield

Connects to my HP 24" LCD monitor. However, even at the highest resolution setting (which is native to my monitor) the picture is not completely sharp. I also experience the intermittent blackouts every 3-5 minutes. This is a major problem that needs to be fixed ASAP. Apple needs to get busy. This setup is unusable!

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Absolute Joke
Written by DO from orland park
Feb 2, 2009
I just bought a new 13" 2.4GHz MacBook unibody along with this adapter. I was trying to connect my Samsung 32" LCD to my computer, and needless to say, the TV does not even recognize the MacBook. This is my first Mac, so it definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth and doesn't give me too much confidence in the reliability of other Apple peripherals. This is an absolute joke-- frustrating and disappointing. I just wish I could rate this zero stars.

Blinking monitor with my Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Written by MM from Denens
Feb 2, 2009
Dear Apple,
I am fan of your products, but this is getting strangely disappointing.
I have a 26" Benq monitor, and with my previous MB Pro it was already pretty complicated to synchronize it in full external screen definition. You needed a trick: put the Mac in standby, then open and close fast, etc...
Now, with my new MB Pro and the Mini Displayport to vga adapter, not only you didn't fix this problem, but I am experiencing constant blinks (every 3-5 minutes).
I have noticed that there are many other unanswered complaints regarding this matter.
I am tired of searching for forums throughout the net; is there any way I can get a feedback about this?

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Does what it's supposed to, almost
Written by RE from Kitchener

I bought the VGA adapter to avoid getting multiple adapters (monitor is DVI and VGA in, but need VGA for projectors). I figured an adapter should just work, why would there be issues?
Every few minutes my screen goes black for a few seconds (I am running an external 22" at 1680x1050, I don't know if that would be the reason). The old ADC -> VGA adapter on my 800 MHz iBook worked just dandy. This should do the same.
I have yet to hook it up to a projector, I'll see what happens then.

I recently bought a 13.3 inch MacBook (2.4 GHz) and both DVI and VGA adapters. I used this adapter to connect my legacy CRT monitor and use the DVI adapter along with a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to my Samsung TV, AMAZING quality and resolution.

I don't know what problem Others have had, but I had no problems connecting this to my 52" Philips LCD or to My 42" Hitachi Plasma. Or to data projectors.

Worked great with Panasonic HDTV
Written by JC from Annandale
Jan 27, 2009
I used this device to hook my MacBook (mid-2007 vintage) to my Panasonic Vieja Plasma TV, in order to watch streaming TV (e.g., Netflix). It was incredibly easy - I plugged in the adapter, connected the VGA cable, and the computer automatically did the rest of the work (it auto-adjusted the screen settings to optimize for the TV and mirrored the display to the TV). When I was done, I just pulled out the adapter, and the MacBook display returned to normal. The resolution was great - much better than my previous connection via component cables.

I am new to MAC and just got my macbook a week ago. I've already used this adapter on 2 different projectors for different presentations I have given. It worked without any problems. I just hooked it up and it worked. Very simple (and I am definitely not computer savvy).

Trouble with screen re-syncing every 5-15 min
Written by QM from San Francisco
Jan 23, 2009
The adapter works fine and is pretty flexible however after every 5-15 minutes, my connected 26 inch monitor goes blank and re-syncs so I have a black screen for about 2 seconds. I hope apple addresses this soon. I have read a few reviews of this happening with other people.

unibody/aluminum macbook 2.4GHz

AFTER purchasing the MB572Z/A miniport/VGA dongle with my new FB467LL/A macbook - the one with the "advanced" nVidia GeForce 9400M set, I read in the user's guide (p.66) that "Note: Your MacBook supports external display resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 on Apple DVI displays and up to 1600 x 1200 on VGA displays." Bullocks!
The nVidia set supports "Maximum VGA Resolution 2048x1536".
I can't fault this piece of hardware for Apple's lousy implementation of this "brand-new, industry-standard port". Or can I? Will I have to pay $50 for a "better" version of this later? I'll be counting the days I have left to RMA my macbook -22 of 35 people found this useful

CRT Monitor @ 1600x1200 Refresh stuck at 60hz
Written by SP from Boca Raton
Jan 22, 2009
Works great, but if will not allow to change refresh rate when using a CRT monitor at 1600x1200, your only option is 60HZ so much for the 512MB of Video Ram. I am guessing the issue is the NVidia drivers, wish Apple would have used ATI for Video Card, they have better Drivers.

I have tried this on 4 different monitors 3/4 would re-sync after around 5-10mins of use and then repeat. this gets extremely annoying when doing some work and your screen goes blank then turns back on in around 2 seconds.

How to make it work...
Written by AD from Tychy
Jan 20, 2009
If you having signal detection problems with your Mini Displayport to VGA adapter theres simple fix. The problem is that there's no ground on pin 10 (DDC Ground - to check which one is it search for VGA connector on wikipedia) of the vga connector. To fix this you can just wrap thin wire around this pin and attach it to the outside ring of the plug before connecting the adapter.

Beware - Certain Monitors Have Problems With This Adapter
Written by PR from HAYWARDS HEATH
Jan 18, 2009
I bought a new Alu MacBook back in November 2008. After a few weeks I decided to buy one of these adapters.
Every 5 mins or so my screen goes black for 2-3 seconds before coming back on. This has been mentioned by other reviewers here but just wanted to add this is a common problem.
I have called AppleCare and been into Apple Stores too many times. Apple do not appear to even acknowledge there is a problem! Look on Apple's own Forums and you will see the numbers having issues. I would stay clear until Apple fix the issue.17 of 18 people found this useful

Doesn´t work properly with a Samsung 226BW
Written by JZ from Dortmund

The VGA Adapter makes the screen blank out several times during use.
The DVi Adapter doesn´t do this. It works properly. So I recommend using the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter if you own a Samsung 226BW.10 of 10 people found this useful
