Written by JH from Jeffersonville

Works fine on my NEC NP50 DLP projector. Maybe there is some sync signal problem on some monitors - I don't know. It works fine for me.

At first I was disappointed. It wouldnt work on my 40 inch Samsung, but I was able to fix it. Now, it works fine. By going to Sytem Preference-Display-(DETECT DISPLAY and fool around with GATHER WINDOW), I was able to make it work. Hopefully this will help you guys out.

Great Adapter!
Written by BC from Hamshire

Apple's Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter works great for me, using HP monitors. The adapters are really easy to usejust make sure all your connections are made properly and securely, then it just works. By using Displays in System Preferences, you can arrange the order of monitors and drag the menu bar to which ever monitor you want to use it on. It is a great, easy to use, productthanks Apple.

Quality connector
Written by RS from Cupertino
Jun 9, 2009
This connector fits snug (but not too snug) on my unibody MacBook. Works perfectly with VGA projectors and a Sony HDTV.
Make sure it's plugged in when running a software update so that it can be updated.26 of 29 people found this useful

Junk
Written by SH from Arlington
Jun 6, 2009
Physically, the design of this adapter barely allows you to get a good solid connection to a VGA cable. Apple was too concerned with making it pretty and the flush surface just gets in the way. It does NOT work at all with my Samsung plasma HDTV, and when connected to my smaller Toshiba 720p TV, the picture periodically drops for a second or two every several minutes. This new Mini DisplayPort they stuck us with on the new MBP's is just a FAIL all around from everything I read.

Piece of junk
Written by JH from Marburg

Such a junky piece of hardware. Dropping the analog output and only putting DVI-D through. Do they want to have people buy two overpriced adapters, one for VGA and one for DVI?! It seems so :(

The Problem with Reviews
Written by RK from Richardson
May 14, 2009
The problem with product reviews is most people who submit reviews are those with a problem. This products works fine. Plugged it in and it worked. A product this simple is not usually commented on because there is not much to go wrong. I read a few reviews before I bought it but I had no problems. Does what it is supposed to do.

Doesn't work...
Written by MS from Forestville
May 12, 2009
Doesn't work, and can't seem to find the latest (May '09) firmware update. My previous MacBook Pro adapters worked great to VGA, S-video, and composite video. With the new PowerBook Pros with Mini DisplayPort there is no longer an analog output from the video card, and this adapter does NOT do the trick. I give up!

Try updating the firmware of the Mini Displayport to VGA adapter to fix the intermittent black issues from Apple Support. Use the latest firmware, May 6, 2009 or later.

Screen blinking intermittently even after firmware update
Written by CK from DURHAM
May 3, 2009
I have a Samsung 2253bw monitor, and I was having the same problem others have described. Every two minutes or so, the screen blanks for about 3 seconds and then comes back on. I wrote down the timing once, the interval can be less than a minute and up to at least 10 minutes. I was psyched when I saw the firmware update for this exact problem, but not psyched when it was not fixed afterwards; there is no improvement. Also, I was generally annoyed to have to pay $30 to output to ANY device, since when this machine came out there was no device on the market that had a mini DP input -- not that it comes with a mini DP cable anyway.

Non-functional right out of the bag!
Written by JV from Austin
May 1, 2009
Test it at the store before you take it home or order a couple of them if you are buying online. I got one of these the day I was scheduled to do a presentation (with an LCD projector). Wrong move. It was completely non-functional right out of the bag. How does such a simple product like this leave the factory like that?!?
FWIW, I tested the adapter with a dual input Viewsonic monitor that I use with another computer. The VGA input and cable work with the other hardware, and the MacBook Pro video output works with the monitor's digital input. That tells me that the brand new VGA adapter is the problem.14 of 17 people found this useful

Bad connection design
Written by MW from Lewes
Apr 26, 2009
The mini output works fine, but the Achilles heel of this adapter is the thick plastic that encases the VGA side of the plug, so the VGA connector will not securely thread in to the adapter so the cable is easily disconnected when one shifts their laptop slightly or if cables are bumped.

Complete plug and play device.
Written by CR from Marietta
Apr 14, 2009
I purchased this adapter so that I could extend my MacBook Pro display onto an old NEC 1770V LCD. As soon as I plugged everything in, the Mac instantly recognized the device and brought up the display settings. Two or three clicks later, everything was running perfectly fine.
My only complaint is the price. $30 is a little much, but I'm completely satisfied with the product.26 of 30 people found this useful

Good product
Written by KO from Wake Forest

I use this adaptor with my new MacBook to connect an 15 inch Acer LCD monitor, for those times when I need to refer to info in one app. while working in another one. As soon as I plugged it in, the display settings popped up on their respective displays and all I had to do was set the position and resolution for the Acer monitor. Works perfectly, now I can simply drag windows from one screen to the other.
