    Died after 4 months

    • Written by from Duvall

I read the negative reviews of the adapter... but having a 30 inch cinema display I need to use with my Retina MacBook Pro, there weren't a lot of options.

Worked fine until... yesterday when I came back to my desk and my system had shut down due to a kernel panic. Joy, upon reboot discovered that all my email accounts were wiped out. 3 hours later after restoring MacOS and all my data from backups i discovered it was the DVI Adapter that failed and caused the panic. Wow.

    Awful

    • Written by from La Veta

Starts off ok, but over time this becomes almost unusable. I've used the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter for just over a year with a 2011 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt port and Dell 30" monitor. For the first few months I didn't have any problems, or none that couldn't be fixed by simply toggling the monitor off/on. But over the last few months the problem has increased in frequency and severity. Often the only way to get my monitor back is to shut down my system for an hour. If I'm lucky I may get a few hours of work afterwards. If not the snow/distorted pixels, flashing, blinking, and gray/black screen will reappear a few minutes after starting up.

I did not have any problems (and still don't ) using this monitor with a 2007 MacBook Pro with built in Dual-Link port.

Sorry, it there are typos in this post. My monitor is blinking on and off and pixels are distorted with snow, so I can't proofread what I've typed.

Do not buy it if you have an Apple Cinema Display 30 ¨

    • Written by from Tenerife

Does not work with an Apple Cinema Display 30¨ and a macbook air summer 2012. When time passes, appear blinking dotted lines, and are unbearable to behold. It is unfortunate that Apple did not check their Apple products before selling something.

    Complete garbage.

    • Written by from PENSACOLA

The worst adapter I have ever had the displeasure of using. Sleep->Resume usually results in digital snow, sometimes the display randomly cuts out while being used. It's a rampant problem with these adapters with no fix in sight from Apple. Do not buy!

    Intermittent freezing and statatic

    • Written by from Cumberland

I have used this with both a Dell 2407WFP-HC and a Benq Q24W5. Roughly 33% of the time, upon waking the MBP from sleep the external screen is covered with coloured noise. Even worse, once in a while (maybe 1 out of 10 times), while unplugging and plugging the adapter back in the entire system locks up with the blue "I'm examining the displays" screen. Only get the Dual-Link adapter if you *really* need it. Get a single-link (or HDMI or regular display port) adapter if at all possible.

    missing pins

    • Written by from AUSTIN

Will not accept all cables/adapters. Is missing holes for some pins. Attempting to plug a DVI cable too forcefully may damage your cable. FAIL

    Avoid this adaptor

    • Written by from Brisbane

This adaptor isn't working on either a 2009 13 in MBP or a 2011 13 in MBP connecting to a 27 inch 1440p screen. From both laptops, only flickering green static is displayed. Very disappointed. Not good enough, apple! For a AUD$119 adaptor, this is appalling.

Does Not Work Connecting Apple 30" Cinema HD Display to MBP-Retina

    • Written by from Cooperstown

Before I bought my new MBP-Retina I was assured by both Apple Tech Support and the retailer that I could connect my cherished 30" Apple Cinema Display via the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. Not so. Unable to detect the display through system preferences. It just doesn't work.

Doesn't work with my HP LP3065

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

New MacBook Retina and this display adapter don't work for my HP LP3065. The MacBook never see the display. The display works fine plugged into the same DL DVI cable plugged into a Mac Pro so it isn't the monitor or the DVI cable. The MBP or the adapter are the issue,

    Very poor display quality

    • Written by from Mountain View

I tried to use this to connect a Mac Mini to a 30" monitor. There was a lot of flicker. Also, quite weird was that there were horizontal "ghost lines "projecting outwards from the edge of the windows.

A rather poor performing product, especially given the price!

Quality of Display using Samsuns S27A850

    • Written by from Singapore

The quality of display is poor. The characters seem to be grey of interleavely.
Potentially is the Dual-Link Cable problem which I suspect, as I used a 3m length cable.
Will get another 1m length and try out.

    Wish there was an alternative

    • Written by from Austin

This allows me to use my 30" Apple Cinema Display with my new Macbook Pro, however it is not a product i feel is up to Apple's standards. occasionally, my screen will develop digital noise across it, as well as the USB connections on the back of the monitor can be flaky as well. i actually have to restart my machine to fix these issues which is a real pain. You would think that since this is just a piece of hardware that there wouldn't be so many issues. Been using it for over a year now and really hate it, but there is no other alternative that i know of besides buying one of Apple's newest monitors, which don't go up to 30"

    Complete and utter junk

    • Written by from New York

Causes snow on the monitor every time after waking up from sleep and the only solution is to turn off then on the monitor. For $100 I expected much much better quality which this product is far from.

    Disappointingly poor

    • Written by from Glasgow

1.03 firmware does improve matters, but i still get a screen of snow at least once a day (the 1.01 firmware was pretty much unusable). I'm on a hazro 27" monitor running at 2560x1440.
When it works it's fabulous, but i really don't expect rubbish like this coming from apple.
    Is it really this difficult?

    Static mess

    • Written by from Fort Bragg

This adapter is terrible. It works sometimes, but most of the time is my display shows static. I have to power the monitor off then on to get it to work again. I can't believe Apple is selling this product for $99. Boo

    Stopped working.

    • Written by from Richland

Worked great for a few months and then....bang. Nothing. For an outrageous $99 this thing should at least last a year!! What was wrong with the old system and a direct DVI connection? One of the nicest features of the older MacBooks. Is this progress? Or just an evil method of Apple collecting another $100 from everyone to be able to plug into a monitor?

    Dissappointed

    • Written by from Union City

This adapter only works for does not work as specified which is for anything above 1920x1200. I have tried this adapter using: Dell 3007WFP, MacBookPro5,1 and Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter firmware version 1.0.3.

I am really hoping that Apple will fix these issues because a lot of people in Tech Writing, IT, Software Development, Engineering, and Movie/Photo editing require 2560x1600 on 30" monitor (whether generic or Apple manufactured) making their day to day lives easier.

    Please help us Apple! :-)

    Another fail for Dell 3007WFP-HC

    • Written by from BROOKLYN

I got this a while back for my 15 inch Macbook Pro. Although 2560x1600 looks amazing on OSX, there was so much obvious distortion that the adapter obviously has a design flawed. I tried jigging the cable numerous times. Overall, it just doesn't work. Judging by the other reviews, seems like Apple completely ignored fixing this problem. If this happens to you, Apple will give you a full refund, so save your receipt. It's a shame though, I've been using Windows all these years because of this issue (and some other), while I could have been on OSX.
