I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes when it does come up it flickers and has jaggies. I have to unplug the DVI and plug it back in to get it to stop. I never had any issues at all with this monitor on my old MBP. The size of this thing it HUGE, I can't believe they couldn't make it smaller. Literally about 3x4 inches! Feels like they released a poor product AND they did it LATE!

Please forgive my possibly ignorant rant knowing I am open to any schooling from an informed source, unless otherwise corrected I believe the Design Engineering Staff at Apple should be publicly Flogged or at the very least be made to give up a portion of their paychecks to accommodate the prolific permutations of video connectors Apple has SPAWNED! Really now, Intel / PC based computers, that offer equivalent graphic performance have managed to utilize the same 15 Pin cable for 20 years!!! Could someone please tell me WHY APPLES FEELS IT IS COMPULSORY EVERY TIME A MODEL OR MID MODEL CHANGE HAPPENS THEY MUST INVENT ANOTHER *&!@#!# VIDEO CONNECTOR?!!!! One must carry a printed product compatibility map the size of a bed sheet to PURCHASE the correct $30 to $125 adapter so that one can connect AN APPLE MONITOR TO AN APPLE COMPUTER!!! Shame on Apple once again for showing absolutely NO ALLEGIANCE to Long Standing Consumers! I had hoped Intel would have put a stop to the 8Pin, D-Sub, BNC, 15 Pin, Powerbook 100 Series adapter, Powerbook Duo Adapter, DVI, VGA, Mini DisplayPort to VGA, Mini DVI to VGA, Mini DisplayPort to DVI, Mini DVI to DVI, Mini DVI to Video, Mini DisplayPort to VGA, Micro DVi to Video, MADNESS!!! Just to name a few.....

I read all the negative reviews on here before buying and still made the purchase anyway to try it for myself. Don't forget everyone - most people who write reviews on the Internet are complaining about something. The majority of purchases that work never get written about because it is as expected. So always take "reviews" with a grain of salt.

So anyway, I hooked this "Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter" up to my MacBook Pro (2.53GHz model) and to my 30" Apple screen. YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE RUNNING YOUR GRAPHICS IN PERFORMANCE MODE to not get any color or tearing issues. You might also need a fresh reboot to make it reset as well.

Steps:
1) Click on your battery or charging icon in the upper right hand part of your screen
2) Click on "Energy Saver Preferences"
3) Ensure that the "Higher performance" button is selected when connected to the adapter (you can switch it back when portability is needed)
4) Then exit

Now...

1) Go Apple>System Preferences> and click on "Displays" in the Hardware section
2) You can play around with the settings in here to get the resolutions, colors and displays set-ups however you want.

**Important note - make sure your laptop is using the battery charger when connected to the adapter for all of the above to work consistently.

Flickers, jumps and other irritating analog type defects. This is $99 that also can't keep the monitor from randomly shutting off. This should be recalled.

After reading the bad press on the adapter I wanted to be 100% sure that my 30" display was going to work with the new MBP, so I boxed it up and took it to our local Apple store. The sales people were more than willing to provide this adapter to connect it to the new MBP. They only had the Retina display models, but since the Retina and the anti-glare models (which is the one I wanted to buy) use the same video card and I figured if it works with one it will work with the other and IT DID. As soon as I saw it worked I placed the order.

I just received my new MBP 2.7GHz I7, 8 GB ram, 512 SDD with the 15" antiglare screen and connected to my 30" cinema display this adapter and I have full 2560x1600 resolution. In fact, I would say the overall quality being displayed on the 30" is actually better than it was using my 2008 MacBook Pro that I just replaced.

These finally started arriving--over two months since their introduction.

After waiting this long, however, they cause the mouse cursor to jump while tracking. This has been confirmed with wired and wireless mice, and with two different adapters.

Not only did Apple charge us $100 to use our Cinema Displays and make us wait over two months, but they don't even work. Ridiculous.

I'd love to use this as a mini dock for my Macbook Air. I can put my Air in the stand, plug in power, usb3, display and have all of my USB devices and monitors attached via this adapter and a usb3 hub.

(this would suffice until the thunderbolt docks are released...)

I've been happily using my 30" Dell monitor with previous MacBook Pro (which had dual-link dvi output), when I upgraded my notebook I purchased this adapter, hoping that it will work fine too. Unfortunately, it didn't! Simply put, this adapter is very unstable. I'm always using with power adaptor is connected, with "High Performance" graphics mode. Couple days it worked fine for couple hours, but usually it goes crazy after 10-15 minutes usage; seems like having a refresh/synch problem. Some times unplugging and plugging it back solves the problem for another 10-15 minutes... This is really frustrating....

Bought this to use my old Dell 3007WFP monitor with the new Retina Macbook Pro. On initial hookup the display was only detected in 1280x800 mode. The full 2560x1600 resolution was not available as an option. A call to Apple support was less than helpful with the end result of the support person giving up because it wasn't Apple monitor. She was also unwilling to escalate the call, or to put in a request for an engineer to look into it. A terrible experience, and it really tarnishes Apple's reputation in my mind.

I was able to confirm the adapter works by testing on the old MacPro, so I was pretty sure it wasn't actually a hardware issue. Many hours later I did find a solution to let the laptop use the full resolution. It involved using the SwitchResX app, which you can find using google. It's still not a perfect solution since it costs a few bucks, and the solution doesn't use the Macs built in UI. But it does save me a grand for a replacement monitor. As a side result SwitchResX lets you use the full resolution of the Macbook Retina display. So now you can have a bigger desktop than the 30" display crammed into a 15" display. Get out your reading glasses.

I am hopeful Apple will fix this with a patch to Lion, but given that the support staff refused to bring it to the attention of the developers I probably shouldn't be.

Our office has 9 of the new MBP laptops that require these adapters to drive our 30" monitors. I personally have a 30" apple display, all others are 30" Samsungs. Every monitor regardless of brand or age flickers (blanks out and then comes back on) every 20-40 minutes. None of the monitors exhibit this behavior when using a direct DVI connection to an older MBP. Problem is either this adapter or the graphics chips in the new MBP's.
