i tried two different adapters on five (!) different 30" apple cinema displays.
it did not work AT ALL! the results were mostly no external monitor found, but also system freezes occurred and the main notebook display went crazy (only a part of the upper left screen was displayed). very low quality product - WE ARE DEMANDING A RECALL!

Ditto for me - Brand new 13" MBP with a brand new Dell 30 monitor

I get the random fuzziness - thing is I have typically 20 or more windows open and they scrunch up into the 13" inch screen each and every time I "fix" the monitor. Not exactly the productivity solution I was looking for I'm afraid.

Adjusting the resolution seems to help if you go to a really low setting (1280 x 800 or lower) however I still have to unscrunch all my previously nicely arranged windows...

Identical problem occurs on a Samsung 27" monitor as well so I know it is in Apple's domain.

    Apple: Fix This!!!!

The Mini DisplayPort IMHO is a disaster!
Received two new MacBook Pro's a couple of weeks ago. First time one was used we had problems with Dual-link DVI display
Second unit developed a fault with its Mini DisplayPort to VGA connector (no blue displayed - very embarrassing during a client presentation!)
Apple need to deal with this

Terrible performance under the best conditions

This adapter causes the Apple 30" Cinema Display to turn on and off after being plugged in for more than an hour. It worked better that this initially, but after owning it for a few months, it started causing problems. The flickering occurs every one to 30 seconds, rendering the display essentially useless.

I seldom rate any product with one star. Generally, it seems overly harsh. In this case, though, the product is so expensive, so cumbersome, and works so badly, it's really the only review I could give.

Non-stop problems, as others have experienced, with snowy screen and flickering, especially when coming out of sleep mode using this adapter and a Dell U2711. Found a mini displayport to displayport cable that works flawlessly for a fraction of the price.

    burned my laptop out

I just got a new macbook pro 13". After plugging the monitor in, it would flicker and become grainy periodically. Eventually it became grainy to the point where it stopped fixing itself. The next day when I turned the laptop on the graphics were all sorts of messed up and I had to return the laptop.

Figuring it was a hardware specific problem, I hooked my new one back up and it is doing similar things with less frequency. I hope it doesnt bust it AGAIN.

The worst adapter I have ever had the displeasure of using. Sleep->Resume usually results in digital snow, sometimes the display randomly cuts out while being used. It's a rampant problem with these adapters with no fix in sight from Apple. Do not buy!

I had the cable for 6 months and it stopped working. It would overheat when charging and would get tangled up easily and stop working. Terrible cable I liked the original ones better atleast they lasted way longer than the new ones

    Awful

Starts off ok, but over time this becomes almost unusable. I've used the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter for just over a year with a 2011 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt port and Dell 30" monitor. For the first few months I didn't have any problems, or none that couldn't be fixed by simply toggling the monitor off/on. But over the last few months the problem has increased in frequency and severity. Often the only way to get my monitor back is to shut down my system for an hour. If I'm lucky I may get a few hours of work afterwards. If not the snow/distorted pixels, flashing, blinking, and gray/black screen will reappear a few minutes after starting up.

I did not have any problems (and still don't ) using this monitor with a 2007 MacBook Pro with built in Dual-Link port.

Sorry, it there are typos in this post. My monitor is blinking on and off and pixels are distorted with snow, so I can't proofread what I've typed.

    Another fail for Dell 3007WFP-HC

I got this a while back for my 15 inch Macbook Pro. Although 2560x1600 looks amazing on OSX, there was so much obvious distortion that the adapter obviously has a design flawed. I tried jigging the cable numerous times. Overall, it just doesn't work. Judging by the other reviews, seems like Apple completely ignored fixing this problem. If this happens to you, Apple will give you a full refund, so save your receipt. It's a shame though, I've been using Windows all these years because of this issue (and some other), while I could have been on OSX.

    Flickers with 30" Cinema Display

I just went to the Apple store to swap out this cable due to flickering (the service there was great). Unfortunately, the swap didn't help. Unfortunately for me, this means I need to buy a new monitor if I want the flickering to stop. (From a troubleshooting standpoint, the monitor works fine with a direct DVI connection, and I've plugged 3 different laptops in with the same results, so I'm confident the issue is with the cable.)

Horrible, clunky LARGE piece of expensive hardware

    • Written by from Howrah

This is perhaps the worst computer product I have ever purchased. It is extremely large, takes two USB ports to run and although it provides an additional USB port it is too underpowered to even recognize, let alone mount an external drive. I now have a situation where I have to solve the USB port deficit because of this USB hungry device.
The performance issues cited in other reviews are true with my experience also. I am running a 20" external Samsung display and have had repeated trouble getting it to mount the display, wake from sleep, etc.
This product is a DOG. Do yourself a favor and look for a cheaper, more elegant solution. This product is a rip-off.

My Samsung Syncmaster 305T+ 30" monitor worked wonderfully with my old MacBook Pro (2008 model), but after I bought a new MacBook Pro (late 2009), it no longer works. I get extremely poor picture quality, and the picture disappears in about 15 seconds. One star is too much for a product that does not work.

Connected to a Dell 30" screen ; the picture goes fuzzy every few minutes. You must unplug/replug the mini-DP adapter to fix the problem.

A real pain... And no update from Apple after month of having this issue. And I'm not alone.. Hundreds of similar post with the problem

Have this connected to a mini and my Dell 30" ... after wake from sleep, the screen will invariably muck up (as described in other posts) requiring me to reconnect the adapter.

I expected better Apple. I expected it to work.

I've been having some of the same issues with this adapter. It works (mostly) fine with my Dell 2009W, but it has weird issues and cuts out occasionally. Also, it doesn't have DVI-I and so my other DVI adapters don't work with it.

I am using all Apple products... brand new 17 inch Macbook Pro and Apple 30 inch cinema display. I get random linear, static like flickers across the screen that predominately affect the darker areas. For those of you saying you don't have problems, try putting a large jet black area on your 30 inch monitor before clicking up the star rating on this defective product.

    Slow MacBook Pro

After paying $99 plus tax, I thought I will be very happy driving 30 inch Apple Cinema Display from my new MacBookPro. Wrong! It is SLOW !!! Especially when I run VMWare Fusion full screen mode, my Mac runs so slowly that I fall asleep. I am not sure why they made MDP to run only half the capacity. Apple must have known this, so then they should have left dual DVI or provided a different solution.

The quality of display is poor. The characters seem to be grey of interleavely.
Potentially is the Dual-Link Cable problem which I suspect, as I used a 3m length cable.
Will get another 1m length and try out.
