    Snow and Flickers

    I depend on my mac and 30" monitor for making a living. I have a brand new macbook pro and 30" monitor. This adapter causes fickering and snow several times a day, sometimes requiring me to put the mac to sleep and wake up to fix it. Unacceptable!!! Apple needs to fix this!!!

    Read these reviews but I have a Dell 30", Dell 24" and Samsung 22" (all of which work fine on

    1) Screen flickers once in a while (tolerable) but diappointing.
    2) Now when coming back from sleep, screen messed up.
    Have to reboot to fix which is particularly irritating as I have many apps open.

    Apple PowerBook 13.3" 10.6 bought dec 2009.
    1.02 Firmware on adapter.

    Overall ... very very disappointing.

    How to run with Dell 30"

    The is a comment from a gentleman in this thread that mentions the USB connection. That is the key. I have a 3 year old Dell 30" monitor that would not work with the adapter. I have noticed that none of these laptops have enough juice to power the USB devices on a chain of hard drives, etc. So I had purchased an AC adapter powered Tripplite USB hub. When I plug the USB cable from the Apple dual link adapter to the powered hub the adapter works fine so far.

    Summary: If you want it to work you need an AC adapter powered USB hub or similar device.

    Works most of the time.

    The other reviewers are correct -- you buy this cable not because it works well, but because it's your only choice to drive a 30" monitor. When my MacAir goes to sleep, there's significant chance it will wake up with random vibration rainbows all over the screen. The best workaround I've found is to select a different screen resolution (for example, 2048 x 1536, and then re-select 2560 x 1600. You have to re-size your windows, but at least nothing else is affected. Not, in short, Apple's finest hour.

    A great disappointment

    I bought a 30" cinema display, and loved it. Then I bought a new MacBook Pro with the dreaded mini DisplayPort. No problem Apple has a converter box, right? WRONG.

    This is a terrible piece of junk. Any area of the display with a single dark color is plagued with noise. It wrecked my investment. Thanks for letting me down Apple.

    Screen blackouts

    After about a few minutes my screen goes beserk.
    the dual link to dvi adaptor is not only a waste of money, but also my 3000 dollars 30 inch cinema display is a complete waste.
    Worst is that apple has known this bug for a year and does not fix it.
    And im running it to a brand new 27 inch core i7 Imac.
    disapointed.....YES

    Vertical stripes and pixelated screen upon waking from MacMini 2.53

    I should have read the reviews here first, as I too am experiencing vertical banding upon waking up my 30" cinema display from sleep (usually overnight sleep only). I just purchased a new MacMini 2.53 (server model). I have not yet attempted to plug the USB adaptor into a powered USB Hub, as other have suggested. But this cable cost $100, and it should work plugged into the MacMini, unassisted.

    I was tempted to purchase the new 27" iMac, but I did not want to part with my 30" matte screen. It has to be the cable, as my 30" cinema display never exhibited this issue plugged into my MacPro (2 year old model). The cable is the only variable here.

    Just works

    I have used this with my 17" MacBook Pro and with my new 27" iMac. Just plugged it in and worked. I am using it with a Dell 30" LCD. In both cases it just plugs in and works as I would expect. The Dell now displays in native resolution. The screen is not as good as the iMac screen but I do now have lots of screen real estate thanks to this device.

    Doesnt work on my Macbook Pro 17 with a Dell 30" Monitor

    Hey all,

    Just got it for one of my x mass gifts, well it doesn't work. I boot the computer, and then left it go to sleep and then try to wake it up by external keyboard, monitor comes on and then goes off.. Thats it, nothing else..... Have to hard re-start the macbook to get back into the OS. I cant believe apple made this piece of junk. If you have a dell 30" monitor dont buy this, it will not work!

    Kinda sort of works

    My work monitor is a 30" Apple monitor and so when I got my new 15" MBP, I went out and bought this cable. After about 2 mins, I noticed that there were random spots light (just like that old Window's Stars screen saver). After about 5 mins, the screen started flickering on and off. I did some research and found out that apparently, there are multiple versions of this product, and if you don't have Firmware 1.02, the problems are terrible. (You can find out your firmware in the System Profile.) So, I did a "Firmware upgrade", which for this product means returning it to the store and asking for a new. The problems are *mostly* gone (the random spots of light are gone, but the screen will still flicker after the computer has woken up). Still, what I would consider to be unacceptable for a $2,000 laptop, $2,000 monitor, and $100 cable.

    Faulty product. Very disappointing.

    I bought this cable less than six months ago and it now regularly flickers and stops responding, forcing me to disconnect and reconnect my 30" Dell monitor. This is immeasurably frustrating, because not only do i have to stop working, I also have to reposition all of my windows. Easily the worst apple experience I've ever had.

    Works Great NO Problems

    I used this cable to connect a new Mac Mini to my Apple 30-inch LCD.

    Complete plug and play - just plugged it in and it worked perfectly.

    It seems the people who have problems with this cable are those using non-apple displays. I would suggest using a third party adapter if you don't have the Apple 30-inch display.

    SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK

    Much to my disappointment, this cable does not work - at least not anymore. I have a new 15" Unibody MacBook Pro and a 30" Apple Cinema Display. I had no problems with the cable for the first 3 weeks. I was shocked after reading all of the terrible reviews it got. I thought maybe I was lucky. But true to form, my luck ran out, as did the functionality of this cable. Flickering, static, color bars, blacked out screen, etc. now consumes my $2000 monitor. I was even more shocked when I called Apple Support and they danced around the issue until I was told to "just take it to the store." Apple flat out does not acknowledge the problems being reported about this product. I never thought compatibility would be an issue with an APPLE computer and an APPLE display. This chord has rendered my studio useless, as my 30" monitor was its cornerstone. I bought the chord because I had to. This is not an accessory!!! It is a necessity!!! APPLE, PLEASE RESOLVE THIS ISSUE!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

    Disappointed! F - 30" Cinema Display w/Oct2009 2.66Ghz Mac Mini

    First of all... this cable is $100. They are charging the same amount for a cable as they charge for the base model iphone (at the time of this review)?! Ok, so I swallow the fact that it costs 10 times what it really should cost...but the overly priced product doesn't work well. Over two years I've run my 30" cinema display from a macbook pro with absolutely ZERO problems. It has been flawless. Brand new mac mini w/ 2.66Ghz processor, and the special $100 cable to connect my 30" display... I have to restart my computer twice a day to make the fuzzy vertical lines disappear. If you like having your display not function well, and if you enjoy fuzzy lines, and loss of color all over your screen, then buy this product. Otherwise... I recommend you find an alternate solution.

    Finally Working. Pricy.

    Works sometimes, doesn't work other times, is always annoying.

    As I write this review, I've had to unplug and replug the adapter 3 (count 'em, 3! times). I am using an HP LP3065 display. I have all the same issues as everyone else on this thread. Apple should fix this adapter and replace all the ones that we bought.

    Flicker two or three times a day

    I am a totally MAC fan. I love their stuff. It is always quality. This thing is awful. I depend on my monitor as I do a lot of photo work. I had an older macbook pro which had the DVI output. Ok, so I have buy a 100 adapter now, I am sort of ok with that. Then I find it takes up one of my USB ports as well. A little less happy, but give me a product that works. Now this... Two or three times a day I need to cycle this thing. Very poor. I really hope they fix this.

    This thing is junk. Sadly I have to re boot or put my computer to sleep at least three or four times a day because it goes out and comes back with the dreaded TV Snow we all hated as kids when the cable went out. Apple should have gotten this right by now. As a consumer and big spender on apple product I'm disappointed again. Windows 7 anyone? (Joke) Is Apple listening?

    Works on my Dell 3007 WFPHC

    Based on the reviews, I was worried bout buying this product. I purchased from the Apple Store at the end of Nov 2009 and have had little trouble.

    There was one instance of blurry video that was corrected by unplugging and reseating the cable. It hasn't happened since.

    I've used the monitor extensively for multi-hour (up to 10) stints.

    How to make it work

    The adapter has problems, everybody knows it. To solve problems with flickering and snow connect its USB plug to external source of power. Powered USB hubs may work but I found it working perfectly with ipod/iphone power adapter which gives 1A (not just 500mA) of power. No flickering. No snow. It finally works.
