    Horrible Pass Through Quality

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I've been using a viewsonic DVI monitor with my older mac book pro for a year and it was great. Very crisp and nice with DVI out to DVI in of the monitor. Now that Apple has switched over to the display port, requiring an adapter, it looks horrible. It is unusable for applications such as photoshop. And yes, I use the extended desktop display mode. Basically, whatever is going on behind the scenes with the adapter is just not working like it should, and they need to advertise such. Don't expect much from this - expect that you will be buying the LCD display that Apple has put out with the display port, much like I now have to. Thanks for forcing my hand, Apple.

    Solid Apple product

    • Written by from Fremont

This might cost a bit, but it's top notch quality. The first one I got was defective, so I took off one star. But the level of professional customer support I got (I got yelled at when i went to Fry's) from Apple made me add one star. They tested the defective one, took out a 20" ACD and tried it. Then they gave me a new one, and opened it + tested it before I bought it. Fry's, Best Buys would have shoved me out the door. I know the later has done that before.

Doesn't work with existing DVI adapters

    • Written by from Cedar City

I got this hoping it would work with my existing DVI adapter for my old Macbook Pro so that I could hook it up to my TV, but no it's like 2 pins short of working. Maybe I should try to return it but it's more trouble than it was worth to buy it.

Mini-Display to DVI on the package. Not DVI-D.

    • Written by from SAN FRANCISCO

Ordered this, got it and it doesn't work with standard DVI. Have to spend more money buying the DVI-D cable. More shenanigans for Apple to make you spend more money on cables etc. Everything was great on MacBook Pro until this Unibody junk..

    Love It

My MacBook Pro is connected through this adapter to a ViewSonic DVI port and my PC is connected to the ViewSonic VGA port, making it easy to switch the ViewSonic to show either machine. Worked out of the box, no problems.

    The adaptor works perfectly

    • Written by from Montecito

This adaptor does exactly what is says it does, 100% of the time. I use it for my Apple Cinema Screen at work and at home and it works every time I plug my MacBook Pro in.

    Acer AL2416W cable

    • Written by from MINNEAPOLIS

I couldn't get this adapter to work at first, until I noticed that the cable that came with my monitor was marked 'PC' on one end. It worked fine for years with the 'PC' end plugged into the monitor on my old 13" Macbook, but it always gave 'No Signal' on my new 13" Macbook Pro when using DVI. I turned the cable around, and it started working. How does this make any sense at all? Is my desktop a physics-free zone? I'm just happy I don't have to use VGA anymore, the difference is night and day.

    Poor Quality/Short Life

    • Written by from Benicia

As others have noted, the adapter worked fine for about 3 uses on both the imac and the MacBook. Then it started to fail, preventing the installed computer software from loading (or at least I could not see it on the desktop). This seemed to be progressive failure over a couple of months. I am led to believe that this unit is very sensitive to handling and perhaps electronic challenges largely based on what others have written. I had noted that the resolution is lousy so when I get the replacement unit I will follow the suggestions of others to adjust the computer resolution to get a better picture (once I figure out how to do it). Getting a replacement unit of the same design seems to be the only way to achieve the computer to TV connection. At $19 it is not a bad way to go, only if I could get the unit to be more reliable and to last a little longer.

Apple dropped the bomb really badly on this one.

    • Written by from Houma

The new Apple Macbook pro does not have a way of connecting with a third party monitor unless you purchase this connection. For a $2000 dollar machine, they should add this. I'm really tempted to return this one, and go ahead with using the old one just because of that.

I ordered this connector online, but I failed to realize that the mini-Dvi to DVI connector isn't the same. That is my fault. I'll order it again. Now I have to wait another week for this connector to arrive. This is just one huge headache.

I own a MacBook and a MacBook Pro and two 20 Apple Cinema Displays. The Mini DisplayPort DVI adapter works perfectly with both computers and their displays.

You asked for it so stop complaining about it!

    • Written by from Georgetown

I'm not sticking up for Apple here -I agree that shipping with one adaptor is the right thing to do. However, please don't beat up on solutions to something we all ask for in the first place. That's a stronger, faster, lighter, better product. Every element to the new MBP gets scrutinized and made better, much like F1 cars. Furthermore, the MDP is a NEW INDUSTRY STANDARD! Check out the Video Electronics Standards Association and the flexibility of the MDP to connect to HDMI, DVI, and VGA (although the latter is low-res and outdated). If you don't want to pay a premium for genuine Apple accessories, then buy aftermarket brands (sound like the exact business model of the auto industry to you?) This is the way the world works and it ain't gonna change -at least not until we all stop being such demanding consumers and are happy with bland and beige for forever!

    Not so great...

    • Written by from Wahiawa

First, I suggest you look elsewhere to find a Mini DP/Thunderbolt to HDMI cable rather than deal with this item. If you have to get this one here is my experience with it:

    Pros-
Nice picture (when the cable works)

    Cons-
    **NO AUDIO
**Price ($29.99 + cost of another cable if you don't have a DVI-D cable to connect)
**Mini DP connection on cable is very fragile. This is the first cable I have ever had that had to be placed just right to ensure a clear signal. I have books stacked-up behind my iMac to keep the cable straight. Don't even think about bumping it while inserting or removing a USB or FireWire device (does anyone use firewire?)

Apple, stop sapping my wallet with proprietary garbage that sounds great, kind of works, nobody supports or uses and get standardized equipment. My friend's sub $400 laptop with HDMI output looks the same as mine but his has audio and he got the cheapest cable we could find ($5 for 12ft). I spent $60 for the total cable setup and look like an idiot.

    It just dies.

    • Written by from Toronto

Bought an extra one to use at home, and it just died. Do you have a choice if you have a macbook pro? Nope. Buy a new one or fight for a replacement.

Mini Display to DVI TOO SHORT!

    • Written by from Billerica

I Went to the Apple store in burlington mall and bought a brand new macBook. I already had an HP screen from my old PC. I found this adapter and thought of connecting my computer to the screen or my High Def TV. I opened the the box and the things like 3" long. I Think it is a Good investment if you have annother 70 bucks to blow on a DVI extention cord.
