This product worked great for me for several months until I updated my macbook pro 17 inch to OSX 10.7, after the update this adaptor completely stopped working for me. I have tried several different televisions and suggestions found on Apple support site and other helpful sites, nothing worked.

Has grave issues with my external HP LP2475w monitor - screen flickers every several seconds and makes any work or entertainment impossible. Also when the computer wakes up, for 2 or 3 seconds the screen is covered with "noise" pattern. I have tested 2 adapters with 2 identical HP monitors (and with monitors from Acer and Samsung) - no luck, one flickers more, the other less, the problem is clearly not on the side of monitors (they work flawlessly with ANY other signal source).

I'm very disappointed with Apple regarding this new Mini DisplayPort mess. At least you could sell MiniDisplay Port to DisplayPort adapter so I can connect my monitor with it (Monitor has DisplayPort socket on it).

    Audio interference

    • Written by from Glasgow

MacBook Air. Cable is fine for picture only (connecting to a retail Sony LCD 42").

However, a high pitched noise is noticeable from the speakers when the audio out is used to link to external speakers on the monitor / TV or headphones. When DVI cable is removed, sound interference disappears. Suspect that internal cables are not shielded?

Pathetic. The noise is so severe that is impossible to watch TV programmes on the larger screen, which was why we bought the cable in the first place.

This is NOT a normal DVI connector. This is a DIV-D connector

Look at the large flat horizontal pin by itself. There should be 4 little pins (2 on each side) of the big flat pin if this were a true full DVI connector. This is NOT. This adapter is missing those 4 little slots for those 4 little pins. This means that this connector will not hook up to any DVI-monitor at all. BE CAREFUL. This is a DVI-D connector which does not carry all the signals of the full DVI spec. Right now I"m looking for a DVI-I to DVI-D connecter and the apple store doesn't offer it. I'm really bummed. I have a several monitors that I want to use my mac book pro with and all have DVI-I outputs on them. But I can't use my macbook pro with them because the adapter they sell.. just won't work. GRRRRR. Apple please give us a full blown connector and call it the correct name so we can find it! I'm a disappointed customer right now. I'm a recent convert from the PC world to mac and so far, except for this exerience I've liked the mac laptop. But I need the big graphic editing external display in order to work properly. I'm finding myself reverting to my old computer instead of my new macbook pro. Frustrated in video land, Kelly

Does not Support USB like Original DVI

I purchased this adapter along with one of the newest Macbooks thinking I could connect it to my home theater system just as I had done with all of my previous Macs.

It does not function properly due to the lack of a USB signal that's missing from this new interface. Without this signal, the "Options" tab within the System Preferences>Display properties is missing, and is only present when a USB signal is detected for the display. The ability to remove "Overscan" within the "Options" is needed when connecting to any television, or the desktop is to large to view properly

The USB input signal, presently is only supported with the new $99 DUAL-link version of this adapter, which has not been made available to this point.

I am fine with this product when it works, but I am on my third adapter, second one in two months. This has been such a frustrating experience. From my experience this product is very unreliable. I am not sure what I am going to do but I can not continue to spend $30 dollars on these poorly made adapters.

Connection is not solid; picture snows or blacks out.

I am using this with a late 2008 MacBook (aluminum).

Bought two adapters. First one was awful. I connected the cord to the adapter with varying degrees of snugness. No matter what I tried, it would not maintain a connection. The screen (Samsung SyncMaster) was either black, snow, or worse and equally often, it would would just constantly flicker/sorta oscillate between my desktop and snow (many times per second). There was no consistent pattern to get it to maintain a picture (I mean, I tried to wiggle the adapter), which meant that it wasn't the actual mini-display port for which I was having the problem, and that it was the DVI side of the dongle that was having issues. Sometimes I would get lucky, and it would hold a picture for 10 minutes (this happened twice). I wasted four hours on this defective product. I tried switching the DVI monitor cables, but the situation was consistent (and for the past year, the cables have worked and are working just just fine connecting the monitors to the desktop PCs).

Next, I bought another adapter. This worked much better for the most, but it is still not perfect. I've only used the new one for a day, but I am very concerned that it will last, and that it will soon regress to the defective performance of the first adapter that I bought. Once during the day when the new adapter shifted, I did lose the picture on my monitor. That's how I know things are not perfect.

Might try buying a third adapter.

    color static issues on monitor

I was not able to make this work between my 13" first-gen unibody MacBook Pro (I think early 2009) and 23" Cinema Display (2008 model). The cinema display showed red color static/noise all the time (and I tried several common methods for trying to fix that). I suppose this is just the price of older hardware, but would have been nice if they would play nice together.

    Mini Displayport to DVI Adapter

The Female DVI-D Adapter end has limited compatibility with many other Male DVI components. ie. The apple DVI adapter end does not have the necessary holes for the additional 4 pins found in many Male DVI adapter ends. (I learned the hard way). *FYI: You may save yourself time, money, & hassle if you buy a more compatible 3rd party adapter w/ the 4 holes in the beginning.

just adding my frustration about the fact that many others have pointed out: the adapter outputs to DVI-D only, making it incompatible with DVI-I components and apple's own DVI to VGA adapter.

I have 3 Apple 24" LCD Monitors with DVI, I purchased a new Mac Pro with a single graphics card with a single DVI out and 2 Mini Port outputs. The Apple salesman assured me that if I purchased 2 of these it will work fine. After purchasing them I have now read that only 2 monitors will work unless I buy the much more expensive adapters. I would not be fuming so much had I known that I had to purchase 2x 100 € cables from the start instead of wasting my money on 2x 30 € cables as well. Part Apple's fault, part salesman's fault for not knowing specs properly......

Samsung Syncmaster 23 inch - WILL NOT WORK WITH THIS!

    • Written by from Atlanta

I just spent 30+ minutes on the phone w/ tech support to find out the my brand new macbook pro (with mini display port) will not work with my 23 inch Samsung Syncmaster. PERIOD. It doesn't work. Its fuzzy -- no matter what resolution you put it on. My option : spend 3x what I spent on this monitor to buy one that definitely works. Great Apple -- people already are Apple fans without being forced into buying your other products. This actually does the reverse -- makes me wish I'd never bought a macbook. At least with a Dell I know I use pretty much what I can find.

    Works, but bad design

    • Written by

23 of 29 people found this useful

It does what it's supposed to, but I can't stand the design. My beautiful new macbook sits on my desk, and I'd like the 4 cords connected to it to drop down inconspicuously through a cable grommet -- but they can't because of the big blocky connector which sits only a few inches from the computer. Why couldn't Apple either make the cord longer, or better yet, just offer a 4' cord with mini-displayport on one end and DVI on the other??

Do not buy this worthless toy for over 1280x800 resolution.

My wife purchased a new MacBook Pro. I have a 30 inch cinema display on my desktop PC which has always directly connected easily and supported 2560x1600 resolution perfectly.

Of course, the MacBook Pro doesn't come with any adapters for connections. I purchased this plastic toy and tried the Cinema Display on my wife's MacBook. The top resolution we got was 1280x800. I called Apple and was told that we have to shell out $99 for the dual link adapter. I tried this adapter with a 27" Syncmaster and we got 1920x1200, however the text looks horrible. Again, Apple says buy the $99 adapter. I see the reviews for that adapter are horrible.

Apple, we purchased your $2000 monitor and your $2000 laptop. I expect this to work without another $99 adapter to clutter up my desk with a bunch of cables. Furthermore, if you are going to gouge people for a $99 adapter, at least make it quality.

I will remain a PC. My wife can have her MacBook.

I bought this for my brand new Samsung Monitor and MacBook Pro.

The adapter simply does not work in that configuration although my older MacBook Pro with the regular DVI cable does work with the monitor.

I ended up exchanging it for the VGA adapter. Old technology seems to be the only thing that works for these 1 month old devices.
