I use it with my 2012 Macbook Pro (non-retina) and Asus PA248Q (1920x1200) and it works like a champ. I have not experienced any problems. Plug it in and it works.

I dont know why there are numerous bad reviews on this product. I have a cintiq 12WX plugged into my Macbook Pro Retina display and it works wonderfully. No dropped connections or anything. Its sturdy and stays in its socket. There aren't any flickering or noise signs on the monitor from the connection. A++ product

I got this with a new MBP in May of 2012. I plugged it in to my MBP and my plain old Samsung 22" digital monitor. It works reliably. Once in a while the display gets confused and puts the main screen on the Samsung when I wake up the computer. I unplug and replug (just once) and it works fine. I take my computer with me daily, so I plug and unplug this unit every day. Works fine.

Recently migrated from a PC to an iMac and reused my 23" ASUS (VGA,DVI,HDMI) display as a secondary display.
Connectivity and configuration was very easy and I have not encountered any problems to date.
I am very happy with the purchase and ability to reuse a newer display device I otherwise would have had to get rid of.

I'm using it to connect my 13" MBP to a Viewsonic VX2450vm-LED monitor's DVI-D slot. Works well as its supposed to at 1920x1080 resolution.

Ignore other reviews that gave this product 1 or 2 stars b/c they bought the wrong product.

I've used a couple of these for some time and they do exactly what they aim to do. It's true they don't do DVI-I analog, but I haven't seen a monitor in years that expects that.

Works great, I goggled "dvi pin connection" and figured out that I was picking out the correct DVI cable because there are different types of DVI's.

It's an adapter. If you get the right one to do what you want it to do it works perfectly.

The reason for all those low reviews isn't because of this product. It is because people got the wrong adapter and are blaming Apple for it. If what you need isn't a DVI-D adapter but you bought this DVI-D adapter, guess who is at fault? Here's a hint, it's not Apple.

Get this instead of the VGA adapter

    • Written by from Oakland

I have a late-2010 13" MB Air and was using the mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter with various monitors. It appears that the VGA timings or signal strength on the laptop are marginal at higher resolutions (1600x1200 and above). The effect is that you periodically get zig-zag bursts across the entire screen. This is the analog VGA signal slipping between scanlines.

I switched to this DVI adapter, which fixes the problem. However, I'm using a KVM switch so moving to DVI was a downgrade because now I have to switch the monitor separately. I know some Macs can output a clean 1200 lines through the KVM switch and VGA because my 2009 Mac Mini and a 2007 Windows notebook works fine with the exact same setup.

As other reviewers say, if you are using 1920x1200 or higher resolutions, get the dual-link adapter instead of this single DVI adapter. But below that resolution, this one works fine. It does not have the zig-zag display problem that VGA has.

    Summary:

If you have a single monitor running at 1920x1200 or below, get this DVI adapter. If you want higher resolutions, get the dual-link adapter. If you're doing presentations, you have to use VGA but switch to a lower resolution than 1600x1200 to avoid the zig-zag problem.

    Just What I Needed!

Works great connected to a 25 inch Dell monitor that is secondary to my MacBook screen. I do not know how anyone could come across bent pins. My suggestion is to never force it in. There is a similar DVI port (my Sony TV has it) that this adapter will not work for. I think this is the main cause of bent pins.

Not sure why people are complaining. The adapter is sold to let those with a newer Mac with a mini-DisplayPort connect an older monitor with DVI-D, such as an Apple 23" panel. That's exactly what I needed to do, right down to the Apple 23", and the adapter works exactly as advertised.

Something my client needs but should not need

This product is needed because Apple keeps marching to the tune of their own drummer! Don’t get me wrong they are great in developing the human to machine interface. But his is an example of not using an industry standard resulting in all of us purchasing an add-on for an obscene price and now having something to lose or break.
Oh it works with no problems.

This adapter has worked perfectly for me since I purchased it in December 2010. I use it every day, disconnect and reconnect it frequently when I move about with my laptop, and I have had none of the problems (poor display quality, problem with mouse) that other reviewers have mentioned. I have a MacBook Air and a 22-inch (G22WLk) secondary display. The secondary display is great for VPN or remote desktop work, or just to have more windows open and more working space. Use "displays preferences" (under an icon at the top of your screen) to adjust settings for remote desktop. I'm planning to buy the VGA DisplayPort adapter to work with other displays and projectors.

If had this for about 4 month now and I haven't had any issues with signal or whatever. One thing i dislike is the laughably ridiculous price tag. Apple, how can a mini display port to dvi-d cost $30 ???

I recently purchased this Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter from an Apple Reseller, and had lots of bad feeling about it working properly after reading all these Negative Comments on the Review of this Adapter.

Well, what I found was, it works flawlessly with my Macbook Pro 13" (Mid 2010) and my Samsung 2233SW LCD monitor. After Connecting the DVI Cable from my monitor to the Adapter and then when I connect the MiniDdisplay port connector to my Mac, I instantly got extended desktops on both. 1280x800 on the MacBook LCD and 1920x1080 (extended desktop) on my Samsung 2233SW.

I never had any problem using it, not even a hint of performance drop.

So, whoever wants to buy this Adapter, and are confused like I was with all these negative comments, please, go ahead and buy it, its worth and works great.

With the latest Mac Updates, this cable works without any glitch.

A superb product. And a highly recommended addition for any macbook.
