    Not for larger monitors

    • Written by from Morristown

Fine product, works well. But note: this adapter will only support monitors up to 1900x1200. For larger monitors (e.g. 27 inch) with higher resolutions, you'll need to purchase the Dual-link DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter.

It works, but only with the "right" male DVI connecting cable

    • Written by from Nashua

It works, but only with the "right" male DVI connecting cable. Unfortunately, the DVI specification was not executed very well, and that's why there are FIVE different DVI male connector types. Only ONE of these five will work with Apple's Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter.

It will NOT work with a male DVI-I single link.
It will NOT work with a male DVI-I dual link.
It will NOT work with a male DVI-D dual link.
It will NOT work with a male DVI-A.

But it WILL work with a male DVI-D single link.

See the pretty pictures at the Wikipedia DVI article.

One star subtracted for lack of a better name and documentation.

I like the fact that it connects my computer to my monitor. That's very cool! I also like that it is white. It really matches all my other Apple stuff. I would recommend this product to any person seeking a computer cable that works and looks nice!

23" HD Cinema to 2011 MacBook Pro (15")

    • Written by from Murfreesboro

If you want to connect a 15" MacBook Pro (2011 vintage) to an aluminum, 23" HD Cinema Display (about 2005/6 vintage or thereabouts), this is exactly the adapter you need. Also, yes, your 23" HD Cinema Display will continue to display in it's native 1920x1200 resolution. You can add a second display to your MacBook Pro or use it as a mirrored display. This is what I was looking for (2nd display for my MacBook Pro) and this adapter makes it possible. The only downside is that the adapter cable is so very short.

Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support

    • Written by from Donkin

This is great for just picture but I'm so disappointed that I bought the mini displayPort to DVI connector and then the dvi to hdmi cables to connect my macbookpro to my flat screen plasma tv. After getting everything and figuring out that I had to have "mirror" on in my system perferences and turing it all on; I had no sound. I could have avoided all this trouble by simply buying the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support, or even the 2 piece one, similar to the one I actually bought but with audio. I should have researched better. So to all you looking to do what I wanted .... BUY the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support.

    Worked just fine

    • Written by from calgary

I had read all of the negative reviews and was extremely concerned about buying the product, but I had a presentation to do so i really had no choice. The mini display port worked perfectly, I had no issues. I did follow the instructions mentioned in other reviews.... attach it with the computer and LCD off, turn on computer then turn on LCD. No issue..... Remember to set your display to mirror!

    A unique adapter...

    • Written by from Apple Valley

Why Apple refuses to design their own Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter or just price the adapters at $20 instead of $30 is beyond me... or why MacBook Pros don't include one of these adapters, since previous models of MacBook Pros had DVI ports on them.

Still, this adapter works well and I've had no significant issues with it.

Works with my Dell 2405 monitor (after a lil' tinkering)

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I recently bought the MDPort to DVI-adapter for my recently purchased MBP 13". At first, when I connected the adapter to my MBP, I got a blue screen, which then went back to regular desktop view. I then turned on my Dell monitor. I got nothing on the screen, just blank/black. The MBP couldn't "detect" any external display. I tried this a couple times, different sequence of hooking up cable, etc. and it didn't work. I read two reviews here that said they used the same monitor as I have and it worked, so i was wondering what the problem was. I borrowed my friend's VGA adapter, and that worked fine, even after the MBP was on. So, I tried again the DVI cable, by first having the MBP off, connecting the cables, and then turning on the MBP and later the Dell. Voila, it worked. Then someone suggested to me from the Apple communities, that the monitors like to be turned on before plugging in (which saves me the hassle from always having to reboot); which turned out to be true in my case. So what was once a frustrating experience, is now a good one, as the cable does work (i had returned it to get a 2nd dvi adapter b/c i thought the first one might be bad). I didn't think two adapters could have the same problem.

Anyways, I'm rambling, but I'm happy to say that it works!

Took off one star, just b/c I thought the adapter's price was a bit high at $29.99 (best buy)/$29 at apple.

    Does what it said.

    • Written by from Burnaby

The adaptor does what it said, nothing more.
I brought this adaptor so I could connect my MacBook Pro 13" to my 23" SamSung monitor. I was worry before the purchase as the SamSung had a resolution of 2048x1152.
The external monitor does come out in full resolution and sharp, the only complain that I had are:
1.) Why does they build in the DVI port and I have buy extra accessory for it.
2.) They should have a longer cable for this. 4" is just not enough.

I didn't have any trouble with the product. I just wish there was a more straight-forward (vs 3 cables) and more economical solution to get complete picture and sound.

    Mix up causes problems

    • Written by from Freeport

For some reason Apple uses 2 different ports to be able to use an external monitor, what your computer has in it is the type of adapter you buy. This mini displayport to DVI looks different than the mini dvi port plug. If you buy the correct adapter it will work. The best way that I found to be able to tell which one to get is to search the Apple store for the Mini and look at the I/O ports on the back. The MIni has both. Just see which one matches your output and buy that adapter. Hope that helps.

Be sure your battery charger is attached to use this adaptor

    • Written by from Lowell

At first I thought this cable didn't work. Well... unless your macbook pro is attached to its charger - it won't work. It will work for a few seconds - then lose the external monitor signals.

Once I hook it up to the charger - it works fine.

Expensive but works with digital displays

    • Written by from Champaign

While this adapter is overpriced, it does exactly what it says it does. In another review a user states that they are frustrated as this adapter drops the analog signal. This is NOT true.

Mini DisplayPort can NOT do analog to begin with.

If you notice, Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters use a chip to convert the digital signal to an analog one. This adapter does NOT have that chip.

For $30 Apple should just make a Mini DisplayPort to DVI/VGA hybrid adapter to avoid consumer confusion, but if you have a digital display, this will work perfectly.

Minus one star for consumer confusion.

    Seems good to me...

    • Written by from Swansea

I use this adapter with my Macbook and a 17" (maybe?) Dell LCD monitor capable of 1280x1024. It works perfectly so far. I've only had it for about 6 hours, so I can't really say anything about how well it holds up. The cable is about twice as thick as an iPod cable, but it is only about two/three or so inches long... It is obviously designed to function only as an adapter, with a separate DVI cable (which is fine).

I would change two things about this product... mostly to make it worth its $30 price tag.

    1) I would lengthen the cable by an inch or so. (Not hugely important... but it'd be nice.)
    2) It would also be nice if you could use a DVI->VGA adapter with this, but this is only Digital DVI, so that should not work. I'm not sure if this is due to some technical limitation, or if Apple just wants me to buy a VGA adapter too.

But, all in all, this does exactly what it is designed to do, and the build quality seems decent.

But remember, this will only work with the newer Mini DisplayPorts, NOT with the MiniDVI ports. Make sure you check if you're unsure.

bought it to use with my unibody macbook pro + Samsung Syncmaster T240 24" monitor. Works perfectly, although sometimes when switching to it (dvi) from my PS3(hdmi) I get white noise displayed on the screen. Will write another review after using it for a few months to see how it lasts

    Confucius is wrong

    • Written by from Fort Worth

You cannot run dual monitors with this product or the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter.

The Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter is meant for 1 external display up to 1920 x 1080.

The Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter is meant for running 1 external display up to and beyond 1920 x 1080 resolution, such as the Apple 30" monitor which runs at 2560 by 1600 pixels.

Please do your research before recommending a product. Dual-link does not mean Dual monitors. The Digital formats are available in DVI-D Single-Link and Dual-Link as well as DVI-I Single-Link and Dual-Link format connectors. These DVI cables send information using a digital information format called TMDS (transition minimized differential signaling). Single link cables use one TMDS 165Mhz transmitter, while dual links use two. The dual link DVI pins effectively double the power of transmission and provide an increase of speed and signal quality; i.e. a DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1200, while a DVI dual link can display a resolution of 2560 x 1600.

Please purchase the correct adapter for your application.

Works fine, but where's the RCA/S-Video out adapter?

    • Written by from Washington

This cord works well on my TV, but I used my previous Macbook constantly to show friends and family pictures on their TVs via S-Video and RCA analog video. Now my new Macbook can't be connected to most older TVs that only have an RCA video plug or S-Video. Bad enough to upgrade my Macbook and have to buy new expensive adapter cords, now they're not even making the same cords. Frustrating.
