Something my client needs but should not need

This product is needed because Apple keeps marching to the tune of their own drummer! Don’t get me wrong they are great in developing the human to machine interface. But his is an example of not using an industry standard resulting in all of us purchasing an add-on for an obscene price and now having something to lose or break.
Oh it works with no problems.

I have an ACER 24inch monitor (1920x1200) since 3 years, that works flawlessly in VGA and DVI with my PC (GeForce 8800, Radeon 4670, GeFcorce GTX 260) as well as with my old Mac
    - PowerBook 15" HD (DVI no adapter)
    - iMac 17inch Core2 Duo "education"
    - MacBook Black Core2 Duo
    - MacBook Pro 15inch 2008
    - MacBook Air original (mini-dvi to DVI adapter)
but, it was just impossible to make it work with a MacBook Air 13" 2010,m with mini-displayport to DisplayPort adapter. NEVER!
It just continue to work well with my other computers (PC, MacBook Pro 17inch, PowerBook G4!)

    It's just a terrible product!

This adapter has worked perfectly for me since I purchased it in December 2010. I use it every day, disconnect and reconnect it frequently when I move about with my laptop, and I have had none of the problems (poor display quality, problem with mouse) that other reviewers have mentioned. I have a MacBook Air and a 22-inch (G22WLk) secondary display. The secondary display is great for VPN or remote desktop work, or just to have more windows open and more working space. Use "displays preferences" (under an icon at the top of your screen) to adjust settings for remote desktop. I'm planning to buy the VGA DisplayPort adapter to work with other displays and projectors.

This adapter doesn't work with a wide variety of monitor models that all perform properly on other systems. There are years' worth of threads of problems in the discussion boards, and Apple is typically silent on any resolution of the issue. You're better off trying a cheap one than wasting $30 on this one.

and I can't seem to make it to detect my Philips 202E2 20" monitor, why?

I've been unplugging the normal DVI cable from the Philips to the MiniDisplay port and every time I did that, the monitor will display a message saying, "Please check cable connections". So, IMHO the normal DVI cable is working just fine.

Is there any problem with my MiniDisplay to DVI port? I just bought them from the authorized Apple Computers dealer.

I've been putting my mac to sleep, and waking it up many times but still, my mac can't detect the monitor.

    I'm so sad! :'(

Pro: I can plug my monitor into the card through the Mini Display Port so I can still have both monitors.

Cons: There are a lot of times where either it doesn't work at all, the monitor rapidly cycles pixels on and off or the monitor looks like it has areas of dead pixels. Cycling the power on the monitor resolves the issue most of the time, so it's more of an annoyance. I tested both of my displays, it's the adapter.

I purchased this DVI adapter for my Macbook's mini display port. It worked with an Asus 24 inch monitor for about three months and then failed. It would work intermittently when it did work. Sometimes it would output a signal and sometimes it would not. I recommend using VGA instead.

Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support

This is great for just picture but I'm so disappointed that I bought the mini displayPort to DVI connector and then the dvi to hdmi cables to connect my macbookpro to my flat screen plasma tv. After getting everything and figuring out that I had to have "mirror" on in my system perferences and turing it all on; I had no sound. I could have avoided all this trouble by simply buying the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support, or even the 2 piece one, similar to the one I actually bought but with audio. I should have researched better. So to all you looking to do what I wanted .... BUY the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support.

    DVI-D, not the more-common DVI-I

    • Written by from Los Altos

This adapter provides a DVI-D connection. Most DVI cables and adapters I've come across use a DVI-I connection, which has four additional pins on one side (above and below the flat, horizontal pin). This adapter physically blocks those four pins, preventing a connection. I ended up having to buy a special DVI cable (as well as Apple's VGA adapter) to make sure I could always connect to a projector or display on the road.

If had this for about 4 month now and I haven't had any issues with signal or whatever. One thing i dislike is the laughably ridiculous price tag. Apple, how can a mini display port to dvi-d cost $30 ???

Excellent, Works Out fo the Box, A Must Buy

I recently purchased this Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter from an Apple Reseller, and had lots of bad feeling about it working properly after reading all these Negative Comments on the Review of this Adapter.

Well, what I found was, it works flawlessly with my Macbook Pro 13" (Mid 2010) and my Samsung 2233SW LCD monitor. After Connecting the DVI Cable from my monitor to the Adapter and then when I connect the MiniDdisplay port connector to my Mac, I instantly got extended desktops on both. 1280x800 on the MacBook LCD and 1920x1080 (extended desktop) on my Samsung 2233SW.

I never had any problem using it, not even a hint of performance drop.

So, whoever wants to buy this Adapter, and are confused like I was with all these negative comments, please, go ahead and buy it, its worth and works great.

With the latest Mac Updates, this cable works without any glitch.

A superb product. And a highly recommended addition for any macbook.

Doesn't quite make it with dell 30

Resolution options peak at 1200x800 with mirrored option and 1680x1050 without mirrored option. Pulldowns do not show anything greater than that at each setting. The adapter is 30$ locally with 15% restocking fee. The more pricey adapter with the VGA and DV connectors has a restocking fee of $16. Although I could eat that if it doesn't work, I am not that hungry to have it.

Be Warned - May Render Your Computer Unusable

I ordered this adapter excited at the prospect of using two monitors for my work, putting my graphics software on one screen and my email etc on the other.

Upon connecting the second monitor, my mouse no longer tracked smoothly. Every second or so it would jump, sometimes only an inch, sometimes clear across the screen. My computer is basically unusable when the second monitor is connected. This is a widespread problem I've found, with no solution except to use the VGA adapter instead. (It's on the apple support forums too.)

I urge you, if you are interested in using two monitors, stick to the VGA!

    Useless with Apple's other adapters

Missing pin holes means Apple's own DVI to VGA or DVI to component video / s video won't plug in here. None of Apple's mini DVI or HDMI to DVI adapters have all the holes, so NONE of Apple's own DVI to other adapters will hook up. Why, Steve? Thinking different is not good for standard cables. Just like with chargers, and USB cables for iStuff, best best it a non-Apple product for standards based economical operation, IMNSHO.

I'm not sticking up for Apple here -I agree that shipping with one adaptor is the right thing to do. However, please don't beat up on solutions to something we all ask for in the first place. That's a stronger, faster, lighter, better product. Every element to the new MBP gets scrutinized and made better, much like F1 cars. Furthermore, the MDP is a NEW INDUSTRY STANDARD! Check out the Video Electronics Standards Association and the flexibility of the MDP to connect to HDMI, DVI, and VGA (although the latter is low-res and outdated). If you don't want to pay a premium for genuine Apple accessories, then buy aftermarket brands (sound like the exact business model of the auto industry to you?) This is the way the world works and it ain't gonna change -at least not until we all stop being such demanding consumers and are happy with bland and beige for forever!

MiniDP to DVI does not support VGA

There is no reason why the adapter should not also throughput the analogue signal.

Neither the description nor the packaging mentioned this so now I sit with a useless (yet expensive) piece of hardware. And I have to spend even more on a VGA adapter.
