Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
good product

bought it to use with my unibody macbook pro + Samsung Syncmaster T240 24" monitor. Works perfectly, although sometimes when switching to it (dvi) from my PS3(hdmi) I get white noise displayed on the screen. Will write another review after using it for a few months to see how it lasts

This is a great buy, and the Belkin DVI to HDMI cord at $19.99 is UNBEATABLE!! Looks great on my HDTV, love high-res images and videos at 40". One thing, probably user error is no audio through the TV... ??

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Poor Quality/Short Life
Written by JP from Benicia
Mar 15, 2009
As others have noted, the adapter worked fine for about 3 uses on both the imac and the MacBook. Then it started to fail, preventing the installed computer software from loading (or at least I could not see it on the desktop). This seemed to be progressive failure over a couple of months. I am led to believe that this unit is very sensitive to handling and perhaps electronic challenges largely based on what others have written. I had noted that the resolution is lousy so when I get the replacement unit I will follow the suggestions of others to adjust the computer resolution to get a better picture (once I figure out how to do it). Getting a replacement unit of the same design seems to be the only way to achieve the computer to TV connection. At $19 it is not a bad way to go, only if I could get the unit to be more reliable and to last a little longer.

If you're gonna be condescending, being correct should come first
Written by DP from Los Angeles

"It appears that some people are being mislead into leaving bad reviews, but in the end, User Error is to blame. To clarify, this is a SINGLE Link DVI adapter, intended to be used in conjunction with a SINGLE external monitor. Apple also sells a "Mini DisplayPort to DUAL-LINK DVI" adapter if you need to run, you guessed it, dual monitors! "
DUAL -LINK refers to running a SINGLE display with greater than 1920x1200 resolution (like a 30" @ 2560x1600) It has nothing to do with the NUMBER of monitors you are running, just the resolution of a single one.

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Confucius is wrong
Written by DM from Fort Worth

You cannot run dual monitors with this product or the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter.
The Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter is meant for 1 external display up to 1920 x 1080.
The Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter is meant for running 1 external display up to and beyond 1920 x 1080 resolution, such as the Apple 30" monitor which runs at 2560 by 1600 pixels.
Please do your research before recommending a product. Dual-link does not mean Dual monitors. The Digital formats are available in DVI-D Single-Link and Dual-Link as well as DVI-I Single-Link and Dual-Link format connectors. These DVI cables send information using a digital information format called TMDS (transition minimized differential signaling). Single link cables use one TMDS 165Mhz transmitter, while dual links use two. The dual link DVI pins effectively double the power of transmission and provide an increase of speed and signal quality; i.e. a DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1200, while a DVI dual link can display a resolution of 2560 x 1600.
Please purchase the correct adapter for your application.72 of 80 people found this useful

Confucius says: Researching a product BEFORE buying leads to satisfaction!

This is an excellent product that performs quite well if you understand its intended purpose. I use it in conjunction with a 22" HP w2207h LCD monitor via DVI to HDMI cable. I have no complaints. Any limitations are a result of the way Mini DisplayPort has to "emulate" a legacy DVI signal or the monitor itself, not the actual adapter.
It appears that some people are being mislead into leaving bad reviews, but in the end, User Error is to blame. To clarify, this is a SINGLE Link DVI adapter, intended to be used in conjunction with a SINGLE external monitor. Apple also sells a "Mini DisplayPort to DUAL-LINK DVI" adapter if you need to run, you guessed it, dual monitors!
That said, if you purchase a SINGLE-link adapter intending to run DUAL monitors, you'll be disappointment and logically assume it's because your MacBook Pro is vastly inferior to your neighbor's Vista laptop, not because you purchased the wrong item!53 of 118 people found this useful

HDMI source limited to 1 monitor???
Written by JS from Lansdale

Ok, using a new MB with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI, then converting it to HDMI, I am unable to hook up 2 32" LCD monitors. Only 1 external monitor can be used. I am told by Apple support that the MB isn't "powerful enough" to send a signal to 2 external monitors. Funny, I can do just this with a Vista PC Laptop with NO PROBLEM.

Samsung Syncmaster 23 inch - WILL NOT WORK WITH THIS!
Written by MD from Atlanta
Feb 18, 2009
I just spent 30+ minutes on the phone w/ tech support to find out the my brand new macbook pro (with mini display port) will not work with my 23 inch Samsung Syncmaster. PERIOD. It doesn't work. Its fuzzy -- no matter what resolution you put it on. My option : spend 3x what I spent on this monitor to buy one that definitely works. Great Apple -- people already are Apple fans without being forced into buying your other products. This actually does the reverse -- makes me wish I'd never bought a macbook. At least with a Dell I know I use pretty much what I can find.

Slow Response Time

I connect my MacBook with my Samsung 931c with his cable. I found that there is a delay in the display output, anyone is seeing the same problem. You can observe that the display is not as smooth as the display on the notebook itself. I wonder it's due to the signal conversion.

FYI, no 1920x1200
Written by VP from SOUTH SAINT PAUL

It was my understanding of the single-link DVI spec that it could handle the 1920x1200 resolution of my 26" monitor. Seems like 1920x1080 is the max, so I just wasted $30. Whoops.

Mixed feelings
Written by WW from Portland
Feb 15, 2009
The adapter is DVI-D, meaning it has a digital only signal. It connects well to my Toshiba HD-TV using this adapter and a DVI-D to HDMI converter cable. Resolution is excellent, recognition of the second display is easy.
However, many projectors and adapters (not necessarily very old, and certainly widespread in use) support only VGA or connections for DVI-I (digital + analog).
This adapter is often incompatible, and I've been forced to buy the extra $29 VGA adapter to use my MacBook Pro for presentations.
For this reason, a mediocre review.24 of 28 people found this useful

Overall great product if you know the shortcomings

I am using it with a Samsung 245BW 24" LCD bought from Costco. It works perfectly until the computer dims the screen. Once the Macbook dims the screen the Samsung will start to flicker, jump around and never be stable. Restarting corrects it.
If I never let the monitor dim or go to sleep it works flawlessly. Just be aware that if you are having flicker issues it is probably because your computer went to partial sleep.

Audio interference
Written by DP from Glasgow
Feb 10, 2009
MacBook Air. Cable is fine for picture only (connecting to a retail Sony LCD 42").
However, a high pitched noise is noticeable from the speakers when the audio out is used to link to external speakers on the monitor / TV or headphones. When DVI cable is removed, sound interference disappears. Suspect that internal cables are not shielded?
Pathetic. The noise is so severe that is impossible to watch TV programmes on the larger screen, which was why we bought the cable in the first place.22 of 25 people found this useful

Apple dropped the bomb really badly on this one.
Written by CS from Houma

The new Apple Macbook pro does not have a way of connecting with a third party monitor unless you purchase this connection. For a $2000 dollar machine, they should add this. I'm really tempted to return this one, and go ahead with using the old one just because of that.
I ordered this connector online, but I failed to realize that the mini-Dvi to DVI connector isn't the same. That is my fault. I'll order it again. Now I have to wait another week for this connector to arrive. This is just one huge headache.12 of 26 people found this useful

I'm very frustrated and disappointed. :(
Written by GB from Novosibirsk

Has grave issues with my external HP LP2475w monitor - screen flickers every several seconds and makes any work or entertainment impossible. Also when the computer wakes up, for 2 or 3 seconds the screen is covered with "noise" pattern. I have tested 2 adapters with 2 identical HP monitors (and with monitors from Acer and Samsung) - no luck, one flickers more, the other less, the problem is clearly not on the side of monitors (they work flawlessly with ANY other signal source).
I'm very disappointed with Apple regarding this new Mini DisplayPort mess. At least you could sell MiniDisplay Port to DisplayPort adapter so I can connect my monitor with it (Monitor has DisplayPort socket on it).19 of 24 people found this useful

Works just like it should
Written by LM from Wichita Falls

I have this hooked up to my new macbook and a Samsung T240HD - works great!! I was utterly confused about this product looking at it and my DVI cord. This adapter shows a slash and then 24 squares with no gap inbetween. IT WILL WORK IF THERE IS A GAP on your cable. And if you don't know the difference between DVI cables - look it up, it's not hard. If you have one slash on your port it will work, if you have two it will not work.
