Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Apple dropped the bomb really badly on this one.
Written by CS from Houma
Feb 10, 2009
The new Apple Macbook pro does not have a way of connecting with a third party monitor unless you purchase this connection. For a $2000 dollar machine, they should add this. I'm really tempted to return this one, and go ahead with using the old one just because of that.
I ordered this connector online, but I failed to realize that the mini-Dvi to DVI connector isn't the same. That is my fault. I'll order it again. Now I have to wait another week for this connector to arrive. This is just one huge headache.12 of 26 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
I'm very frustrated and disappointed. :(
Written by GB from Novosibirsk

Has grave issues with my external HP LP2475w monitor - screen flickers every several seconds and makes any work or entertainment impossible. Also when the computer wakes up, for 2 or 3 seconds the screen is covered with "noise" pattern. I have tested 2 adapters with 2 identical HP monitors (and with monitors from Acer and Samsung) - no luck, one flickers more, the other less, the problem is clearly not on the side of monitors (they work flawlessly with ANY other signal source).
I'm very disappointed with Apple regarding this new Mini DisplayPort mess. At least you could sell MiniDisplay Port to DisplayPort adapter so I can connect my monitor with it (Monitor has DisplayPort socket on it).20 of 25 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Works just like it should
Written by LM from Wichita Falls

I have this hooked up to my new macbook and a Samsung T240HD - works great!! I was utterly confused about this product looking at it and my DVI cord. This adapter shows a slash and then 24 squares with no gap inbetween. IT WILL WORK IF THERE IS A GAP on your cable. And if you don't know the difference between DVI cables - look it up, it's not hard. If you have one slash on your port it will work, if you have two it will not work.

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Not compatible with Apple DVI-VGA adapter.
Written by WM from Vancouver
Feb 2, 2009
I was happy to see the results when I hooked up my MacBook to my TV, but then when I tried to use this adapter with an older Apple DVI-VGA adapter cable, no go. I needed to connect the two in order to use a data projector with only VGA inputs. Now I have to scramble to find another way to use the projector.
Apple Store employees should tell you up front that this adapter isn't compatible with older (analog) cables, but they don't. That's why there are MANY people with experiences like mine.18 of 21 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Bad product listing
Written by RK from Inyokern
Jan 30, 2009
I am so disappointed. All I want to do is hookup my Macbook Pro to my TV so that I can play home movies, etc., which were edited and compressed on my computer. However, the listing of this Mini DisplayPort to DVI did not make clear that the cable was DVI-D rather than DVI-I. I'm not a pro at these things, but I'm not dumb. If a listing says "DVI-I" and one says "DVI-D", I can figure out that they are different and order the right ones. Thumbs down apple.com. >:(

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Works as expected IF you know your "Late 2008 MacBook Pro" settings
Written by RR from Portland
Jan 29, 2009
I had just got a new "Late 2008" MacBook Pro 15", and I was frustrated with getting 1920x1200 resolution to work with this adapter and any non-Apple LCD monitor. The display would switch to 1920x1200, but the image suffered intermittent video noise (e.g. red lines streaking across the screen, jumpy video, etc). I thought something was wrong with the video card or the adapter. Long story shorter, it turns out this model of MBP has two NVidia chipsets (I knew that, but didn't know how to switch them or which was dedicated to which port, etc), and that you can force the "better" chipset to be used by going to the Energy Saver pane in the System Preferences and choosing "Higher Performance". That fixed my problem instantly.

Not your usual DVI
Written by NH from College Place
Jan 25, 2009
Works great for digital only DVI. Will not work with a DVI to VGA adapter or some DVI cables.
I bought this expecting it to work just like the DVI port on my old MacBook Pro, found out it didn't when I was trying to hook a projector up for a colloquium presentation I was doing.
Don't forget to buy the VGA adapter as well if you are ever going to need to use VGA.

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Works, but bad design
Written by JG
Jan 25, 2009
It does what it's supposed to, but I can't stand the design. My beautiful new macbook sits on my desk, and I'd like the 4 cords connected to it to drop down inconspicuously through a cable grommet -- but they can't because of the big blocky connector which sits only a few inches from the computer. Why couldn't Apple either make the cord longer, or better yet, just offer a 4' cord with mini-displayport on one end and DVI on the other??

Does not fit the Apple DVI to VGA-adapter
Written by MV from Günzburg
Jan 10, 2009
In intention to use my original Apple DVI to VGA adapter with my new MacBookPro I bought that adapter, so I can use my old Apple computer as well for presentations. The Mini-display to DVI does not fit the DVI to VGA adapter (as posted in other comments due to the different standards (DVI-I and -D)). Unfortunately this is not stated anywhere in the product description of both products. So You have to buy boths adapters (DVI and VGA) for using them with the Mini-display-port.

Works with HD monitor
Written by EW from Reno
Jan 9, 2009
I bought a new wide-screen ASUS monitor to use with my new (aluminum) macbook. The standard mini display port to VGA cable only allowed 1280x1024 resolution and the color was terrible. Using the DVI adapter gives me full 1920x1080 and GREAT color.

Mediocre product
Written by AP from Phoenix
Jan 7, 2009
Why does this adapter not have the four openings for DVI-D connectors? I cannot plug in half my monitors to it because the four pins around the large pin are missing! Even the original DVI-to-VGA adapter from apple wont plug into it! Other than that, it does it's job.

Works fine, but where's the RCA/S-Video out adapter?
Written by SL from Washington
Jan 5, 2009
This cord works well on my TV, but I used my previous Macbook constantly to show friends and family pictures on their TVs via S-Video and RCA analog video. Now my new Macbook can't be connected to most older TVs that only have an RCA video plug or S-Video. Bad enough to upgrade my Macbook and have to buy new expensive adapter cords, now they're not even making the same cords. Frustrating.

Great product, but...
Written by RB from Anchorage

Bought today and works great! Hooked up my Macbook with my LG 32' LCD TV. I only have one question: why doesn't this come inside the box with the Macbook? If the port Apple chose to integrate into the new Macbook is not compatible with anything else but this adapter, the right thing to do would be to include it in the box. Apple just didn't do the right thing...Big fan of everything Apple does, but having to buy a 30 bucks adapter is just outrageous!

Plug is poorly designed - needs improvement
Written by MB from Portland
Dec 31, 2008
It functions fine for connecting a monitor to my MacBook, but the build quality is not what I expected from Apple.
The second time I used it, while trying to remove the the mini DisplayPort plug from the computer, the plug's outer sheath slipped off the "innards" of the plug, which remained in the port. I managed to work the sheath (almost) back into position, which is only press-fitted into place. It is difficult to thread the cord's strain relief back through the plug sheath.
It would be nice if the cord were longer, so I could stash the big clunky junction with the dvi cable behind my desk.
The smooth shiny finish of the tiny plug also makes it hard to grasp but that seems to be an Apple design paradigm. (I have the same beef with the mag safe connector.) Cmon Apple, you could do better.

It Just Works
Written by JC from Tucson
Dec 28, 2008
A bit pricey but it works great. I have it hooked up to a dvi to hdmi adapter, to an hdmi cable going into my 32" 1080P toshiba regza. It's like having an imac when I'm at my desk. The picture is not as good as the native screen but that has to do with the native resolution and the pixel size of the tv, either way it works for me and if you're going to use an hdtv as a monitor you will not be disappointed.
