iPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter 3-Pack
Almost Perfect
Written by AS from Westminster
Jul 23, 2009
I bought this adapter for my iPhone 3G and now I for my 3GS. I use two of them, one for my bose speaker and one for my old universal docking station. The only thing that bugs me is that you have to look at it and insert it, it's not a perfect fit, but overall is great.

iPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter 3-Pack
Great
Written by JR from Julian

okay look this adapter is not meant to fit your iphone with a case on it if you have one on, your going to have to take it off (the phone probably looks better with it off anyway) it is a very good thing to have because if you have a dock you dont want your phone just sitting back with nothing to back it because that will damage the connector

Too tight
Written by LW from Singapore
Aug 28, 2008
It is a tight fit putting the iphone onto to dock. And each time I dock the iphone, I have to remove the protective cover (I bought the Incase Protecter). Surely, I think the design could be improved right?

Here's the complete story
Written by PH from Fort Lauderdale

OK, after reading all these reviews I was thouroughly confused so here is the story. I purchased this adapter and used it with the Apple universal docking station.
This adapter works very well with the Universal Docking Station. It is not a tight fit. It is a perfect fit.
The old Docking station has an adapter for the original iphone but not for the 3G iphone. That's why you need this one. If you get the original docking station, you can still use it with no adapter, but you would risk damaging the connection if you were to move the phone beyond a certain point.
The old docking station comes with a big hole and about 6 adapters in the kit. Unfortunately, none work for the 3G. The new Docking station will have this adapter included in the kit.
I ordered the new Universal Docking station, but they mistakenly sent me the old one. When I complained, they sent me this adapter and I've had no other problems.
So go ahead and purchase either the old docking station with this adapter or the new one without. It will work fine.

Very Tight
Written by TB from Barrington Hills

These must be very inconsistently sized. I read in one review that his/her dock is loose. Mine is so tight my phone literally jumps out of the stand. This is a piece of plastic and they charge us 49 bucks! A little more quality would be nice.

My back hurts, so support
Written by NC from Fremont
Aug 18, 2008
yeah my only complaint is this, lower in front, Higher in back.
I did both these mods myself...
The iPhone's one and only button is somewhat of an innconvience to use in the dock, troughing out the front and another 1.5" inches higher in teh back for more support than the sync plug provides.
Other than that love the remote, clean, simple, works for all my ipod/phones.7 of 14 people found this useful

Bought for my Bose to play music from iPhone
Written by SU from SAN PEDRO

I bought this so I could play music from my iPhone 3g on my Bose. The first thing I noticed was that the adapter does not quite fit in the Bose dock. It is a bit loose. I turned it this way and that, but it still seemed like it was not made for the Bose dock.
Next, I had to take off my Flick case to get my iPhone 3g to "sort of" fit into the dock adapter. Unlike iPods, the iPhone does not snap in at all.
I had read reviews that the phone was not set up to charge with the Bose like the iPod, so I was not surprised when I got a message on my phone saying that it would not charge. I was surprised when the message said it was not compatible with the device. I thought that meant it would not work. However, I tried it and it does play music from the Bose speaker. I'm still not sure about the sound quality.
Bottom line: Awkward/loose fit in the Bose dock, awkward fit on the iPhone, plays music from my Bose. I think it could use improvements. Also, I'm not sure what to do with the other two adapters...12 of 30 people found this useful

The Adapter is "ok"
Written by AG from SAUNDERSTOWN
Aug 9, 2008
It's a little loose... The phone is basically supported by the dock input itself, not the mold of the adapter. It could have been made a little "tighter". It does help line it up though. Also, three may be about two too many. I only needed one.
-The main point here is to make sure whatever you dock to, i.e. Memorex ihome clock radio, is compatible with the iphone. I now dock my iphone to my clock radio at work and it charges it fine, but I have to listen to music through the phone speaker itself, not the clock radio. The remote is useless as are the speakers... I know it has nothing to do with this product, but before you buy THREE of these adapters, make sure your "dock" is compatible.8 of 20 people found this useful

My old dock is new again with this, the iPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter.
I only needed one, but got three - but thats fine. They're not exceedingly expensive and some day I may need a second.

If you read LM from Langehorn's review, read this one
Written by DP from Chapel Hill
Jul 24, 2008
LM fomr Langehorn (is that how you spell it?) gave this product a 1 star review because this universal dock adapter did not work for his 1st gen iPhone dock, or that was my understanding of the review. Also noted was that the reviewer held a degree in mechanical engineering and opened up the possibility of this adapter being designed for a different dock.
The new iPhone 3G is slightly bigger than the first generation. Not by much, but to hold the 3G and GPS radios, as well as a larger battery to power these, it needed to be. So, being someone with a degree, you should understand that there is not way the iPhone 3G will fit in the dock if you make it smaller. For that, you need to make it larger, as many have done with a dremel or sandpaper.
This adapter is, in fact, designed for a different dock - the universal dock. The name of the product, while it may be taken to mean it works universally with all docks, means that it works with a dock system designed to work universally with all iPods and iPhones, with the proper size adapters. This is, of course, one of those adapters.
The universal dock from Apple is useful in a stereo set up, and many stereos have an integrated universal dock. The dock is designed with the connector slightly raised and the iPod area much larger than necessary. Adapters, such as this one, are inserted into the dock ensuring a snug fit. The universal dock also features an infrared (IR) receiver so the Apple remote can be used to control the iPod. The universal dock was released while the 2nd generation iPod nano was Apples "small" player because, previously, they were carrying docks for many past iPods as well and the universal dock meant customers who preferred a dock did not have to buy a new one with every new iPod. The iPhone 3G is the first device since the universal dock that does not include an adapter, leaving it with no docking solution in the box.
I hope this review can clear up some confusion as to what this product is used for.194 of 233 people found this useful
