Apple iPhone 3G Dock
It is fine, but limited use of cases
Written by ND from Seattle
Sep 19, 2008
I am not at all disappointed by the lack of a cable, unless you ate the one that came with your iphone, you should be fine with it too. Otherwise you just end up with a cable sitting in a drawer.
I guess I might have preferred to have the larger one for an extra 20 bucks, just because my silicon case is not an easy fit onto this one. I have seen that the agent 18 case comes with a universal dock adapter included in the box, and this may be one way to go, but the larger dock seem to work with any case, in any case :)22 of 32 people found this useful

Observation, not review
Written by DF from San Rafael

I agree that it is often frustrating to buy something and not have the cable. But in this case, since the cable comes with the phone, three cheers for Apple for not including superfluous cables. I already have too many cables around my house, and how many of them are headed straight for the landfill. I'm waiting for Apple and every other consumer electronics company to adopt GreenPlug, or something, so we don't need to buy all these ridiculous cables and AC adapters.

No Cable, very dissapointed
Written by OK from Saint-Bruno

For $30, Apple should have included a cable. Now I'm no more advanced than I already was before. I don't care if iPod docks never included cables before, I feel ripped off. Fail.

What a rip-off...
Written by BL from Metairie
Sep 15, 2008
Yes it is cheap, chintzy and totally unbecoming Apple's supposedly sterling reputation to exclude the necessary connecting cable from this dock. For those apologists who say we shouldn't complain because docks NEVER came with cables, that's simply not true -- the iPhone used to come with BOTH, and no other company would ever dare to offer a dock without a cable. In effect, the Apple product is cheaper and less useful than a Chinese knock-off.
And nowhere on the cute little box is the notation that a cable is needed. So those who simply throw it into their basket because they needed an extra hookup don't discover thev've been deluded until they reach their home or office.60 of 83 people found this useful

What's up Dock?
Written by DO from Yuma
Sep 14, 2008
Ok, this isnt rocket science and it isnt a bargain, although it does the job. Likewise, the audio line out is a nice touch. Its very well made too. However, as you may already know, it doesnt come with a cable so either buy one locally or use the one that you may already have for your car charger, etc. I keep it on my nightstand and Im tempted to buy another one to have connected to my Mac. In short, it just works.

~DD

PRICE IS GOOD!!!!!
Written by DS from East Meadow
Sep 14, 2008
Ok fine it doesn't come with the cable, but when you buy an iPhone it comes with the cable s you really don't need another one. This is just to hold the phone in the upright position and allow an audio out without using the headphone jack on the phone. And for you guys complaining about the price, well than go to a local Best Buy and get the same exact dock for $20 MORE than the Apple Store online or Retail. At Best Buy this same dock, in the same box, with the same model number cost $50.
P.S. AT&T should sell this in their store, I don't know why they don't.8 of 10 people found this useful

Penny Pinching Apple
Written by JS from Wolverhampton
Sep 11, 2008
What is there to say? I picked this up in an Apple Store. I'm fairly new to Apple and completely new to the iPhone (bought one only last week). There is is no mention on the packaging or anywhere else that there is NO CABLE WITH THE DOCK!
Come on, this is ridiculous... I love Apple but can't stand there penny pinching tactics. The Dock SHOULD have come with the iPhone 3G, and the cable should DEFINATELY have come with the dock. I guess it's my fault for not checking these reviews first...
The dock itself does exactly what it says on the tin. Unfortunately, the tin didn't tell me that I need to spend another £10 for a cable to actually use it.77 of 95 people found this useful

Small but important omission; Apple Bluetooth headset owners please read
Written by AG from Belcamp
Sep 10, 2008
So I'll start out by agreeing with the comments below. Annoying that the dock's not in the iPhone retail box. A shame that the dock's retail box hasn't got a cable in it. As a dock though, it does what it says on the box.
My little observation that may be of value to others is that you cannot use this with the Bluetooth Travel Cable (aka the sync cable with a charging point for the Apple Bluetooth headset). In the absence of the dual dock for the 3G phone, I had the bright idea to put the headset cable into the dock on the assumption that both the phone and headset would charge. Oh no. Some bright spark has the dock/cable connected in such away that the moment the cable is connected to the dock power to the headset is cut off.
Summary: the only way to charge a 3G iPhone and Apple Bluetooth headset together is to use the cable alone (or take a dremmel to the dual dock for the original iPhone).41 of 45 people found this useful

Cables and docks
Written by PM from Greenfield

Great item really makes my desk neat. And as far as there not being a cable with the item. NO IPOD DOCKS COME WITH CALBES. A cable should have come with the phone, use that one. So if all of you read included items you would know this. SO stop complaining about it.

$30 and no cable?
Written by JT from Wheaton

Ridiculous price for basically a brick that does nothing without the cable. I bought two, one for home and one for office. I have to carry the cable back and forth or buy another one.

Just a dock
Written by MR from PLACITAS
Aug 30, 2008
This is just a dock, it looks better than the previous one for the 1st gen. However, it will make small marks on the back of the black iPhone only visible in good light but it's just something i've noticed and happens with all docks, you can tell by the demos at the apple store.

Nice dock but bad Apple spirit...
Written by VM from akutan
Aug 29, 2008
Why didn't Apple just put the dock in the iPhone box? Why make people pay even more for something that should have been there?
When the third generation iPhone comes out, I bet they're not going to put anything but the phone in the box, everything else will come out seperately and will not be compatible with the previous model...
Anyways, the dock itself works, so it deserves a 5/5 rating, but Apple's little annoying methods like this to get the customers to pay even more deserve a 1/5...

The dock is a dock. Not much to say other than with my INCASE case the dock does not work. Thats too bad. Apple might want to consider a dock with a bit more tolerance.

NO CABLE INCLUDED
Written by MG from Boulder
Aug 23, 2008
If you still want to be able to use your original cable when you're on the go (and don't want to have to keep plugging and unplugging it from this dock), then the real cost of a iPhone 3G dock is $49. ($30 for this 'stand' and $19 for a USB cable). It NEEDS to be noted on the box that no cable is included because I'm sure that many people made the same mistake I did: thinking that for the already significant price of $30, the dock would come with everything you need. I love my iPhone, but I don't love Apple cheaping out on stuff like this.

Written by NZ from FREDERICKSBURG

What can you say about it? The dock does its job and that is, keeps the iPhone safe and upright. I still feel that this should have come with the 3G because that is what came with the 1st package, but... I would recommend this product to anyone who wants their phone on display and safely propped up

Apple Products are Elegant
Written by DB from Lubbock
Aug 18, 2008
I've used Apple products since '87, and most are not only the best, but they're elegant as well. This little dock does what it's supposed to. But if you don't like it, try the Ped3 from Thought Out.
Of course, the Ped3 doesn't come with a cord either because **the cord is included with the iPhone.** If you want two cords, you're going to have to buy another cord, no matter which dock you choose.21 of 34 people found this useful
