Very UPSET THESE ONLY WORK WITH AIR after buying 2 of these and NO WORK

    Written by RM from Ivoryton

    Feb 9, 2008

This product is very misleading. Apple makes it sound like all you need is a usb 2.0 port and you can use this dongle but WRONG! Not until I got the product did I see the package said ONLY FOR MACBOOK AIR. I cannot use it on my regular macbook or even my macpro or any other usb 2.0 enabled mac that I have. This is very frustrating that apple would SHAFT us like this and charge 29.00 for something that only works with the air. I can buy a dlink or many others for 29.00 or less that will work with ANY computer including my mac or a macbook air. DO NOT BUY this product.

    Works perfectly with MacBook Air.

This product works perfectly with my macbook air. Setup was quick and easy, all I needed to do was plug one end to my macbook air and the other end to an ethernet cable and I was instantly on the network. Please be advised, just as the label says on the package, this product is "Compatible only with MacBook Air computers".

It clearly says on the rear of the packaging: "Compatible ONLY with MacBook Air computers."

I'm not understanding what's so unclear. The packaging states it's only for the MacBook Air. This product works as advertised, it provides Ethernet through the high-powered USB port on the MacBook Air.

    Works with more systems..

    Written by GP from Aurora

I was able to get the adapter to work with a MacBook Pro and MacBook.

It was bought because the ethernet adapter in the MacBook is broken and out of warranty... The adapter wouldn't work on the MacBook at first but it would on the MacBook Pro. The MacBook wasn't updated to 10.5.2 and when updated (via airport), the adapter worked fine.

    Buyer responsibility

As with all products, you read the description & product specs BEFORE purchasing. If you are sour after the fact & you chose not to read prior to purchasing... you are not a good candidate to own a computer.

Mine works as intended & without any issues. Also with bootCamp / windows xp I have complete satisfaction.

    Great Product!

My home network is wireless, but at school, ethernet is the only way to go. This worked perfectly with my Macbook Air, and not surprisingly, it worked with my brand new aluminum imac as well. I'm assuming this has to do with the high powered usb ports. Anyway, just read the tech specs first. ONLY MADE FOR MACBOOK AIR. If ya wanna use it with OTHER MACS, PLEASE BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK

    Works with Mac Mini

    Written by TB from Pittsburg

    Mar 13, 2008

I purchased this device for my new Intel Mac Mini. I am using Leopard 10.5.2 and this adapter works perfect.

When I plugged the adapter into a USB port of my Mac Mini with the ethernet side plugged into my Time Capsule the network connection was made without any effort on my part.

I was able to change this from a DHCP to a manual configuration without any issues.

I rate this device 5 stars.

I needed a USB adapter for my Mac Mini (lightning hit the built in adapter).

Ordered this one and it works like a champ.

I recommend it if you have a broken mac mini or laptop.

    This product does work...

    Written by JB

I have read a couple of reviews on this product where some have not been able to use this product. The adapter was originally intended to be used with the Macbook Air but with the recent update in Leopard 10.5.2, this will work as long as the computer you are using is updated to 10.5.2. I have tested this as well on a G5 and G4 desktop machine as well as the laptops.

    Defiantly Needed

    Written by AN from Saginaw

I love my MacBook air but they did need to include some more ports on it. I like that this product is cheap too. I like that all of the other macs in my house have built in ethernet ports and that this isn't needed. Unlike the crazy RM guy who is whining like a baby because it doesn't work for his computers that have the built in port, therefore its not needed. But let the crazy man rant. And i recommend this product.

Works with Power Mac dual-G5 with 10.5.2

    Written by ME from Tucson

    May 27, 2008

I zapped my ethernet port on my PowerMac G5 tower and had to use IP via FireWire to my PowerBook to go out to the net--which worked 100% cool BTW! Anyway, I got this adapter and plugged it in, no reboot, and poof, my G5 is working on ethernet and I shutdown the Firewire IP and just like Apple...poof and it's working...no reboot...nothing to do. So while it says only MacBook Air, I think Apple got it working in 10.5.2 for other machines also--including older PowerPC boxes. Score one for Apple!

    Works with Mac Mini

    Written by BP from Charlottesville

    Jul 7, 2008

The Ethernet port on my new Mac Mini stopped working, possibly because of transients from a lightning storm. Happily I was able to connect immediately using the USB Ethernet Adapter from my MacBook Air. It works perfectly, although it is limited to 100Mbps, unlike the internal port, which has Gigabit Ethernet capabilities.

    Good Product

I bought it. It works well. No problem. Have used it at least forty or fifty hours so far.
Be sure to reset your modem if switching from one computer to another.

A very thin wipe of WD-40 on the plug makes it easier to pull out.

    Question...

    Written by KF from Ottawa

    Jul 21, 2008

My MacBook was struck by lightning and the ethernet port died. This did the trick. Now, thanks to my business insurance, I can get a new computer or upgrade. I'd like to upgrade to the Air but I'm on a wired network. Does anyone know if it's possible to connect the USB Adapter through a USB hub or does it have to be directly connected to the Air's USB port? I have many different external HDs and printers connected to the hub...

    Thanks for any advice.

    Works Well with MacBook Pro

    Written by SJ from Chesapeake

    Jul 27, 2008

I have used this adapter with no problems as expected with MacBook Pro. It is aimed primarily at the MacBook Air since it has no built in ethernet connection. Ethernet and USB are standards so expect it to work with any USB port. Works great and satisfied my need with no issues.

    Worked on my iMac

Network port on my iMac got fried by lightning so I took a chance based on other reviews. Says its only for MacBook Air. Plugged it in and it hooked right up- just like a Mac product, "It just works!"

    iMac G5 1.8Ghz without iSight. Leopard 10.5.4.

    Thanks Apple!

YES It works on a macbook!!!!

    Written by DW from Pittsburgh

I have a loose ethernet connection on my macbook. For the longest time I thought I had a bad cable. Very annoying. According to my research a new logic board is necessary to fix the bad plug. Sounds like a poor design. I had a loose plug almost from day one.

In any event I just purchased the Apple USB ethernet adapter and it work!!!!!!

When I first plugged it in nothing happened. I opened the network preferences page and activated "USB Ethernet". Bingo I'm connected. I don't know why Apple states on the package that this part only works with a MacBook Air.
