Don't leave plastic bit behind + Guilty, should have read the description
Written by JP from Mc Donald

I was surprised the Airline Adapter doesn't charge. I guess it makes sense if the airlines can't provide the amperage. I am very happy I read the reviews as I didn't consider the possibility I'd leave the Lighter adapter behind... Now I will know to check.

Yet another plug left in the seat socket.
Written by MR from Austin
Oct 2, 2009
Yes, yes. I know. It is the users' fault for leaving. I thought that before buying this and I still think so after losing *2* plugs so far.
Still, people can be rushed or just forget with travel distractions, without all these reviewers being idiots?
It's not that hard to offer the plug to be sold separately is it?12 of 28 people found this useful

Medicore Design But Works as Advertised
Written by SM from Phoenix
Jun 16, 2009
The two part design is just plain silly. also i would have gladly taken on some extra bulk if they included a built in DC to AC power adapter so i could actually charge your MB.
Also it is expensive, this should be $30 not $50. That much money for something with only one function is rediculous.
Bottom Line: Works great for its stated purpose but that purpose isnt great and you can get a cheaper adapter at any electronics store that will allow anything to be charged by it40 of 78 people found this useful

Airline 2 part adapter
Written by TG from CAMARILLO
Apr 22, 2009
Apple should make this item so that the 2 parts clip together, making it more difficult to leave one part in the airline socket! American Airlines has theirs down below your knees, and there's no way one could even see that it's left in there unless you are under 2' tall. I was disappointed on my return flight to realize that I no longer had the use of my laptop because my adapter had separated when I unplugged it on my outbound flight! Come on, Apple, you can do better than that!

Not Idiot Proof
Written by PH from NAPERVILLE
Mar 18, 2009
I am the idiot but have become spoiled with the Apple line. Remember to insure that both parts of the male end (portion plugging into the seat) removes when you unplug it at the end of the trip.
I didn't and am currently buying another due to my rude awakening 10 minutes into the flight.
Other than this, great product.43 of 62 people found this useful

Count me lost
Written by JM from Kenosha

Product works great when I have all the pieces. Just left the tip on another plane, so need to spend another $50. Why cant this be designed better?
Operationally, it works great. While it basically just holds a charge and doesn't charge the battery, it does allow the user to charge other devices such as ipods and iphones while plugged into the USB.19 of 44 people found this useful

More problems on AA
Written by DI from Cherry Hill
Oct 9, 2008
I've been using this product for about a year with my MacBook. I've flown it on AA, UA and US airlines. UA and US don't seem to be a problem. AA was also ok until recently when I got the newer MacBook (I had the 2.16Ghz model previously). Now, when I plug it into the AA power socket, the charge still drains from the battery. This is despite the green light indicating power, and the icon in the toolbar on the screen detecting a power source.
Did something change in the design of the newer MacBooks that are causing this? Does anyone else with a MacBook(not Pro) have a power drain problem when flying AA?39 of 56 people found this useful

Performs as advertised -- which is not good enough.
Written by AD from Cambridge
Sep 23, 2008
This item does exactly what is advertised: powers your Mac but doesn't charge your battery. I give it three stars because although it works as advertised, it's kind of ridiculous that it doesn't charge your battery. If it's a power consumption issue, then program it so it charges the Mac while it's asleep -- why eliminate charging entirely?
If you don't mind that drawback, then it's a great piece of equipment -- light, compact, easy to use. But if you want charging capabilities, then buy an inverter and use your regular AC power cord instead.19 of 38 people found this useful

Doesn't work on American
Written by RB from Ann Arbor
Sep 1, 2008
First, the stars don't really count for this -- it probably works just great on airlines where you get a good power flow, but it does not work on AA. I have tried it on two separate 767-300 flights, and the power did not work. I am going to assume it is an AA thing, and that this particular charger just doesn't pick up the charge properly from the power port -- since many reviews indicate it has worked flawlessly for them, I would say do your homework before buying. It might work for you.
It did not work for me on two separate trips. Fortunately, The Apple Store took it back and refunded my money, even though there was supposed to be a restocking fee. I thank them for that.29 of 39 people found this useful

Engineering oversight
Written by LD from FORT WORTH
Feb 17, 2008
I agree with TH. Apple has forgotten to clip the airline to barrel. Thus leaving the barrel connector in the airplane. I am also out 50 bucks. They won't get another. I went and got an igo this time.
