Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Extended Desktop
Written by AK from London

This screen is indeed, an exceptional addition to anyone with an apple laptop that needs to be mobile, but also work with greater efficiency in the office or at home. My only disappointment with the screen, is its inability to become the primary screen when I hook my laptop into it. I am hoping that this will be sorted out by Apple soon enough, after which, this screen will have ticked all the boxes I could expect. It has also been entirely trouble free and the integration is seamless.

Very good indeed!

there are many displays out there. some are expensive, and some are cheeper.
many people think that this one is rather expensive, doesn't have enough usb ports, and all that. but if you think about it, it's very reasonable.
this display was built for the new macbook and macbook pro: therefor, it is perfect for that job.
when it is connected with the notebook, i'm sure it has enough usb ports.
it would be nice if it could connect with other and older notebooks, but everything that is almost perfect has a limit. in other words, nothing is perfect...most of the time.
and one more thing,
the display is beautiful!!!
so HD and all!2 of 3 people found this useful

I purchased a refurb unit for $599.00 saving a few hundred dollars and I can tell you the display is amazing. I have had the Original iMAC G$ since 2002 and it was getting a little slow so I got a MAC Mini and the 24 inch display. IM glad I did and cant tell you how amazing it is... The speakers are quite good also...

Worth Every Penny
Written by GR from GARDNER

I've had this display for a week and haven't suffered an ounce of buyer's remorse. Its beautiful to look at on or off. Image quality is stunning, the best I've ever seen. It replaced an HP 2207 which is a very nice glossy monitor. I might still be using the HP except that I wanted an LED monitor so that things would look the same at all viewing angles. The bump up in size from 22 to 24 is nice too. Its true that you need the correct environment in order to avoid problems with a glossy screen. If you are able to control placement and room lighting you should get this monitor. I'm using it with a new dual 2.66 mini and loving every minute of it.

My 3rd Apple LED Cinema Display...
Written by FW from Mesa
Nov 12, 2009
In the past 3 days, I have gone through 3 Apple Cinema Displays. I was very excited to get this display...but I have to agree that a lot of what people are saying about the color shifting, dead pixels, etc...is partially true. When I picked up my first display, there was a huge dead pixel on the bottom right hand corner. I also purchased a new MacBook Pro for my partner and was able to have the Apple Care cover both the MBP and display. Luckily I dealt with a very customer friendly Apple Store here in Arizona and was able to return it and get a brand new one. When I got the second LED display, it had another dead pixel and some weird light coming through the bottom right corner. If you've ever seen a laser pointer against a wall, that is what this looked like...especially after the display was on for longer than an hour. Again...I called the store, spoke with a very understanding manager and was told to come in and get another Brand New display. So I get to the store and go through a little inspection of the unit and am given another new box...only this time when they bring the box from the back, it's completely thrashed. Brand new, but thrashed!!! I basically tell the gentleman that I've gone through two displays in the past 48 hours...they were both faulty...I don't live close to the store and I want a decent box. He tells me that this display box is the nicer of the 3 they received that morning. So I ask him to phone another store in the valley and see if they would be willing to honor my exchange? He does. They Do...and I'm on my way to another store to pick up a new display. I get to the store, get a Brand New display with an immaculate box...get home...hook it up...and what do I find? A tiny tiny tiny dead pixel, this time on the left side. I also noticed that after an hour or so of having this bad boy up that the white screen almost has a yellow tone to it. Now I did calibrate it and play with the color; however, it is still the same. I will say that I love this display...BUT I am very disappointed in the lack of quality with the displays I had received. It's not about the money...I don't mind spending 800 bucks...but I do expect to get what I pay for.
The service and understanding I was given was exceptional!!! Apple is wonderful when it comes to customer service.47 of 54 people found this useful

I love this display, simply stunning. I would have given it 5 stars except for one thing, I wish it had a built in iR port for front row. I am using this display with a 1st generation Mac Pro 1.1 with a ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit (yes it works on this model).
Loving it,

The reflective screens are impossible to use in any kind of a normal environment. Buy a third party monitor and don't waste your money on this.

I'm a full-time programmer for Mac & iPhone platform and spend more 10 hours in a day looking at screen.
I want to see my source code, but not my face.
This screen is beautiful, but glossy kills all.
Please provide an antiglare option when buying Apple LED Cinema Display and new iMac.25 of 31 people found this useful

Nice Job - 4 stars
Written by WR from Flemington

Bought the new display for my mac pro. So yes, I had to install a new graphics card that has a mini display port. Went with the Radeon instead of the Nivida. If i had to do that over again, I would opt for the Nivida - only because the Radeon requires two power connections - that takes up the remaining power connections in the tower. So, out the window goes my idea of having two led displays working. Go with the Nivida if you plan on wanting two led displays - it only has one power connection. Ok, back to the display. I had the old 23" cinema display fired up next to it. Without question, the led is the better. The colors, text, graphics, etc. just pop off the screen. Looking at the older cinema display made me feel tired. It was a drag just looking at it. I really think my vision increased at least two or three optics just by looking at the new display. I have the display mounted to a flexscan display arm (one of the best arms out there). My only problem with the new display is that the connecting cords are all short with the exception of the power cord. Guess the engineers only had laptop use in mind when they developed this display. A bit short sighted of Apple - how did they expect that to work out with towers? I can see the reason for laptops as it would leave a bit of cord lying on the table top - but hey, all they had to do was add another 6-8 inches. They did make the power cord detachable - brilliant learnings from the previous displays. Other than that, the monitor is a vision of engineering beauty - typical of the high quality build that Apple does. The screen is brilliant - i could not ask for more - except the cord issue. So if you are thinking of getting this display - go for it. Keep in mind that you may have to elevate your tower. I should probably do that anyway. cheers :)

Reflective screen is impossible
Written by PD from LONDON
Nov 3, 2009
...Unless you have full control of your working environment - ie really dark
no windows no lights - this monitor is great, if you work in a light studio forget it
If your working on black in a light/normal studio all you can see is your own reflection, how can apple produce this screen without a matte option? - They must know that everyone using the screens professionally would have this problem?57 of 65 people found this useful

Unusable in a brightly lit office
Written by BH from LONDON

I use this monitor in a fairly normal UK office (overhead fluorescent reflectors, big windows) and the glare and reflections make this monitor practically unusable.
At best the reflections are extremely distracting, at worst they give me a headache.38 of 42 people found this useful

Needs to be IPS
Written by MM from Doylestown
Nov 1, 2009
This needs to be an IPS at this price, especially since they just started making the new iMacs an IPS display. Until then this is a nice monitor, but not justified by the price. It's also not good as a professional monitor for anyone who needs to do graphic design or video editing. Bottom line, in 2009 this monitor is considered a rip off... aluminum enclosure does not justify the price either.

Stunning Display
Written by BW from Live Oak
Oct 28, 2009
As the description of this product indicates, it's for a very select target. It is simply gorgeous in it's simplicity of function and works well with my macbook pro. The three (3) connections make it an ideal companion to the macbook pro series of computers. It required absolutely no study of it's use. The computer recognized it upon connection and it's brilliance is outstanding. The cost, while a tad high, doesn't skimp on the Apple resolution to excellence in its design and simplicity. This by far, the finest monitor I have ever owned.

disapointed
Written by GM from Tétange
Oct 28, 2009
sorry but i have to say that i was really fast decided to buy the display, but also fast disapointed. i bought a new power mac two 2.8 quad in march 2009. i bought the display today (28th october) to find out @ home that i cannot connect the display to my mac because of the HD 2600 XT graphic card. i just got of the phone with my apple reseller who told me that i even could not change the graphic card.
so think about it when you're decided to buy this display. i'll return tomorrow to my reseller to get my money back.28 of 51 people found this useful

Love it!

I went through several monitors before I landed here; including 30" ACD, and Dell 2707 WFP. I liked the 30 ACD but found it difficult to sit in front of it due to its size. When I sat back further it was hard to read text. The Dell was a solid monitor but a little fuzzy due to it's large dot pitch.
I was concerned about the glossy display. It has turned out to be a non issue producing sharp, brilliant images. As trivial as it is, it's nice to have the USB hub, notebook power and AV connection in 3 easy plugs.
I still think Apple should step off the proprietary wagon with the mini display port. It's great to have it but how about including HDMI & DVI too.
At the end of the day, it's the best image in the tightest package as long as you can connect it. For me image was highest priority. I have a newer MBP too to I have no conflicts with connections. I would also score the monitor very high on basic finish work and easy of adjustability.41 of 45 people found this useful

AMAZING DISPLAY...Some Might Not Like Glossy Screen
Written by AL from PHILADELPHIA
Oct 13, 2009
I purchased this display and I absolutely love it. The quality is amazing. Some people may not like the glossy screen, but I really do not care. I recommend purchasing the Apple Keyboard and Mouse...I already own the mouse and purchased the keyboard and love my new setup. The only thing I find annoying about the display is that the 3 built in USB ports only work when the display is connected to the computer. I was hoping to be able to charge my iPhone without the laptop plugged in but it doesn't work.
