Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Perfect except for cord length
Written by BD from Montreal
Mar 26, 2009
The display's cord is too short to connect it to a Mac Pro, especially if the tower is on the floor.

Confucius says: Researching a product BEFORE buying leads to satisfaction!
Written by ES from Fairport
Feb 25, 2009
This is an excellent product that performs quite well if you understand its intended purpose. I use it in conjunction with a 22" HP w2207h LCD monitor via DVI to HDMI cable. I have no complaints. Any limitations are a result of the way Mini DisplayPort has to "emulate" a legacy DVI signal or the monitor itself, not the actual adapter.
It appears that some people are being mislead into leaving bad reviews, but in the end, User Error is to blame. To clarify, this is a SINGLE Link DVI adapter, intended to be used in conjunction with a SINGLE external monitor. Apple also sells a "Mini DisplayPort to DUAL-LINK DVI" adapter if you need to run, you guessed it, dual monitors!
That said, if you purchase a SINGLE-link adapter intending to run DUAL monitors, you'll be disappointment and logically assume it's because your MacBook Pro is vastly inferior to your neighbor's Vista laptop, not because you purchased the wrong item!117 of 157 people found this useful

Best Display I Have Ever Owned
Written by NA from SAINT THOMAS
Aug 19, 2009
A few weeks ago, I ordered a new MacBook Pro and wanted a nice display for it. As a professional photographer, I wanted something with high quality, good color (ICC support, etc), and good style. The Apple LED Cinema Display shines at all of these, and more!
I love that it can power my MBP, so I don't need to use another power cable.
After I received it, I calibrated it using a Spyder Pro device, and it really shines. I just love this display. I was a little worried about the glare when I first read about it, but there is no glare to worry about unless the display is turned off!
I can't recommend this highly enough. A+++++65 of 69 people found this useful

Great Monitor. But cables are too short.
Written by RC from Mississauga
Sep 12, 2009
THE GOOD:
- Brightness. The aluminum 23" I've owned previously had to idle for a good 3 minutes before it could fully brighten up. this new 24" lights up instantly.
contrast ratio went from 700:1 (previous) to 1000:1 (now)
- Works "instantly", when i mean instantly i mean "INSTANTLY" (for those of you who don't know or haven't owned an external apple display before.... this monitor has the ability for you to choose a different wallpaper background and brightness for each display)
- Three usb 2.0 located at the back. Great for your devices like keyboards, mouse, tablets, volume controllers, speakers, ipod charging dock, mp3 player, etc.
- Glossy. Those of you who love sharp, crisp, and smooth images for slideshows and or movies. This monitor is perfect because anti-glare finishes do distort that clarity.
- Built in speakers, microphone, and isight (webcam). In the event if your macbook was placed away or closed, you still can have full advantage like if you laptop was opened up in front of you.
THE BAD:
- No choice of anti-glare. DON'T PANIC!!! theres all sorts of anti-glare flims you can purchase over the web for this monitor.
- Connector cables are short, your mac cannot be more than 3 feet away. If your using your macbook as a secondary display this shouldn't be a problem. Or consider getting the "bookarc"
OVERALL:
In the past month - my old apple aluminum 23" LCD (previous generation) failed. This was an upgrade for me. Theres not much to say about this monitor, it does what every other monitor does on the market today, but of course, apple always kicks-it-up and notch considering style, weight and footprint to a count - its all worth the investment in end. 5/5 APPLE!59 of 65 people found this useful

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Overrpiced BUT very nice and convenient
Written by JB from New Haven
Mar 13, 2009
Pros:
Wonderful monitor (color and detail). Much better than my Samsung, friends Dell and ViewSonic monitors.
Convenient hook-ups
Dual monitor hook-ups (monitor and macbook)
Camera and speakers good quality.
3 USB hookups allow me to have everything wireless.
Cons:
Price (I payed $800 retails $900)
MiniDisplay Port (someone will eventually make an adaptor)
Overall:
Great 24 in monitor almost with the price (Apple should charge less than $700)

This panel ROCKS!!
Written by MF from Naples

Here's what you want to do if you own a MacBook...
buy this display, a good mouse, and the Apple wired keyboard. Now you have a desktop "docking" station without compromise.
This display is so crisp and detailed you'll be pinching yourself every time you fire it up. Glossy is great, and easy to clean...much better than that old-school matte junk that gets clogged up with microscopic dirt particles when you clean it.
You know you like the best. Quit dinkin' around researching on the web, reading reviews, weighing $$ options, and just get it!! You WILL NOT be disappointed!!

Absolutely Beautiful!

This is truly a beauty and a very good price in the LED back-lit category. I love the fact that it charges your laptop so that I can carry my power supply around with me and never worry about forgetting it at home.
Simply stunning colors and very crisp. This is certainly the way of the future. Please go to an Apple Store and check it out before buying to truly appreciate it.58 of 77 people found this useful

Great Companion to MacBook
Written by KR from APO
May 26, 2009
I have not experienced the problems that other reviewers have had with this monitor. I think its fantastic. Its like having a docking station for the MacBook Pro. I have my MacBook set up on a stand at eye level right next to the monitor so I can use it as a dual-screen. It's exceptionally efficient. You can display your mail on one side, and work on documents with the other. The 24in screen also makes it easy to work on multiple documents at the same time. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Just fantastic
Written by DM from Richmond
Jun 10, 2009
I bought this yesterday and felt I had to come and review it straightaway, after using it for about a day now. It is every bit as good as most of the reviews on here suggest!
It is very easy to set up and works straight out of the box. The screen itself looks as good as it possibly could, and is easy to arrange so that you can hide the wires, including the USB ones, behind the central stand.
And the quality is just fantastic! The screen is a joy to look at and is massive - there's lots of room to have several windows open just on the screen, but if you use your macbook to extend the area you can have everything open at the same time. It has a great range of brightness and of screen tilt, so it's easy to get the best setup for your needs. I'm in a pretty bright room and don't have problems with the reflection - no more than on my macbook already.
The only useful tip for those setting up for the first time is that you need to format the audio and camera for each program (e.g. Skype, iChat) but as with all things apple this is pretty straightforward.
I spent a while before buying this reading all the reviews and yes, the lead's not the world's longest, but it reaches fine to your macbook which can either be open or shut elsewhere on the desk. It seems lots of people have bought this for the wrong computer but it does explain quite clearly on the product descriptions which ones it's designed for.
If you're trying to decide whether or not to buy this, I'd say go for it. You won't be disappointed. I'm definitely not!
Thanks Apple for another great product!!

Great product - but not enough info from Apple Phone Sales
Written by JT from LAKEWOOD
Apr 23, 2009
I've had my MacPro and 24" Cinema Display for a week now, and could not be any happier with the stunning display! Like many other MacPro users, I was not aware of the short cord issue (read the reviews, duh!) Fortunately, my current setup works very well, but now I have a new problem. My once-satisfactory desk, next to my shiny new MacPro and under this incredible monitor, looks really shabby. I'm finding that the short cord of the Cinema display, without tha availablility of a reasonably-priced extension, limits the options for a new desk. I'm not complaining here, since I'll enjoy the process of looking for a suitable desk to show off my new hardware - just letting others know what I found out after I made the purchase. I am still VERY pleased with the display, and have no problems with any glare (light in room comes from north and east windows). In any case, great product, Apple! Just please help us MacPro users out with an extension for the mini-display cable (USB cable extender was included).

Great Looking Monitor
Written by RW from Hartford City
May 31, 2009
So far this monitor has performed quite well. The colors are some of the best for a monitor this price, and you get so many nice additions. The camera is high quality, the speakers are actually pretty good for being built in, and you also get the usb hub built into the back.
My only complaint would be the small MDP cord. I use this on a Mac Pro and the short cord does limit how far away you can be. Luckily this month there will be extension cords available from monoprice.com so I can't complain to much.
If you want a 24inch monitor you can't go wrong with this one.

this is easily the best looking monitor ive ever owned, i was hesitant about the limited connectivity with the monitor as it does use the mini dvi connector, but with my brand new MacBook Pro its a perfect match! my desk looks awesome with it and its is crystal clear, i use low lighting sources so i have no glare problems whatsoever, this is way easier on my eyes, so bright, and the colors are GREAT! i do photography and this monitor is one purchase that makes me just as happy as when i bought my MacBook Pro, seamless integration! and i am actually surprised by the speaker quality, i even disconnected my original external speakers i was using when i plugged my MacBook Pro into an external monitor
also, some people complained about the length of cords... but its designed for a MacBook... and aftermarket mini dvi extensions are super cheap/easy to find on google if you do want to use it with a Mac Pro or use multiple displays35 of 42 people found this useful

Perfect for the New Mac mini!
Written by DD from Houston
May 31, 2009
I had this for a week already and yes I love it. I got the Early 2009 Mac mini with 4GB upgrade at Apple Store. I also got Logitech Z-5500 THX 5.1 Surround Sound, two 2TB Western Digital External Hard Drives. This setup I really love. I also have a wired Aluminum Keyboard & Wireless Mighty Mouse. The Keyboard connected to the Display and its USB connected to the Mac mini. Display has 3 USB ports, keyboard has 2 USB ports & Mac mini has 5 USB ports. Total open USB ports is 8! I know some people gripe by not having any Firewire port, but you can daisy chain as I done with my two 2TB WD External Hard Drives to the Mac mini if you want to connect a Sandisk Firewire 800 CF Reader just connect to the last port open on external hard since it has two each. Keep in mind if you connect a Firewire 400 device that drop your speed 50% on all connected to Firewire 400 speed. Now resolution, its beautiful and detailed. Im looking to get the Canon 5D Mark II 21.1 Megapixel DSLR camera. For the last week Ive downloaded the RAW Samples from Canon and others who own and or used the camera. The images are simply beautiful and detailed. If you want to do photography then you need this Display. This is a H-IPS (Horizontal In-Plane Switching) Display that will give better viewing angles and color reproduction close to a CRT Monitor. This is also perfect for those who buy or rent HD Movies & TV Shows from iTunes because its HDCP and HD Versions of Battlestar Galactica, Smallville & Heroes, Casino Royale well as watched 1080p Quicktime trailers and yes it looks awesome. This is worth every penny!

Finally the perfect combo! I've got a 13" pro and now the cinema display expands my desktop beautifully but I can still use the laptop on the go. The screen is crisp and beautiful, speakers etc.. are okay nothing spectacular but a nice thing to have integrated.
Even better yet, you can get the display on the refurbished site for much cheaper and it's in pristine condition!

Simply Awesome!
Written by SE from Cadier en Keer

I am very happy with this monitor and feel it's well worth the price. the design is beautiful and it works perfect with my early 2008 Mac Pro and Nvidia GT 120 graphics card, which by the way, works perfect with my '08 Mac.
I had originally bought the 30 inch cinema display but returned it because of some uneven backlighting and a couple of hot pixels. I was a bit hesitant to go with the LED because of the problems some had complained about on the forums, but, I took the chance and it payed off. No dead pixels, no dust and the colors, sharpness and contrast are amazing. this monitor is perfect in size and performance.
Some people complain about the short cable. For me the length is not a problem. My Mac Pro resides under my table about 6 inches away from my left knee and there's still plenty of slack on the monitor's cable. PERFECT!!!
I love everything about this monitor and just have to say that if your Mac Pro sits underneath your desk and as close as I have it, you won't have any problems whatsoever!32 of 37 people found this useful

Impressive quality, don't believe the whiners.
Written by AH from Berkeley
Sep 21, 2009
Just deboxed my new monitor, absolutely top-notch quality and connectivity. I have a macbook pro and couldn't be happier with the three-prong cord arrangement.
To address the two main gripes with this product-
1) The screen is not a mirror! I have a mixed brightness background and have very little visual interference issues when the monitor is on.
2) The interface cable is actually a little long for my liking. If you think the cable is too short, you probably have your desk set up poorly! (Where do you want to put your laptop, on the other side of the room?) Clutter would be a huge concern if it were any longer.
Thank you apple for sticking to aesthetics and quality.34 of 43 people found this useful

This is an exceptional display, it does require however that for optimal use all lighting be up lighting. I work mainly on detailed image correction, and have found this to be an exceptional display. My work environment has only up lights, so no reflections.

I was nervous about spending the money. Then I saw a refurbished Cinema Display online at the Apple Store for $599. It's great. I've connected my Macbook Pro and now it is like having a desktop and portable all-in-one. I was worried about the cables being too short, but it works out fine for me, I can place my laptop on the floor. There is virally no glare. I have a room with florescent over head lights behind my desk and screen and there is no problem. The speakers are fine for Skype and short videos on utube, not great for music. I'm happy with this purchase and love the crisp bright screen.

Superb with GT120 and Early 2008 Mac Pro
Written by SH from MONTICELLO
Aug 3, 2009
This is an absolutely stunning display. I do programming, graphic design, and video, and this display performs well for my purposes.
I ordered this with the Nvidia GT120 (cheaper than the upcoming mini display port adapters, and better than the Early 2008 Mac Pro's stock Radeon HD2600), and the two work great together. I did have to reset the PRAM to get the Mac to recognize the new card (cmd-opt-P-R at startup), but that's easy and not unusual.
You need to set up your workspace so that you minimize reflections with any glossy display, but the payoff is IMHO a crisp, bright display with good color (I calibrated with an eyeOne). I also appreciate the fast power up from display sleep, with immediate and stable brightness; no need to let the backlights "warm up" with this LED display. No dead or stuck pixels on this particular unit.
The built-in iSight and microphone are nice. The speakers are okay, but I use external speakers for music, and this display's speakers for alert sounds, which works great. Short cables, but okay in my setup. More USB ports would be nice.
But overall, an outstanding display.26 of 30 people found this useful
