Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
24 inch LED cinema
Written by SI

Good sides:
* a lot of colors and a beautiful image
* nicely designed and integrates well with my 13'' Mac
Bad sides:
* the glare is erased very easily. I've tried to clean the dust using the iKlear thing and now the glare is all scratched even though I haven't pressed that much. It still looks ok in the dark, but looking from a side one can notice the scratches and it looks very ugly.
* no physical control buttons, everything is software controlled0 of 1 people found this useful

Beautiful display

I love this display, simply stunning. I would have given it 5 stars except for one thing, I wish it had a built in iR port for front row. I am using this display with a 1st generation Mac Pro 1.1 with a ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit (yes it works on this model).
Loving it,

Nice Job - 4 stars
Written by WR from Flemington

Bought the new display for my mac pro. So yes, I had to install a new graphics card that has a mini display port. Went with the Radeon instead of the Nivida. If i had to do that over again, I would opt for the Nivida - only because the Radeon requires two power connections - that takes up the remaining power connections in the tower. So, out the window goes my idea of having two led displays working. Go with the Nivida if you plan on wanting two led displays - it only has one power connection. Ok, back to the display. I had the old 23" cinema display fired up next to it. Without question, the led is the better. The colors, text, graphics, etc. just pop off the screen. Looking at the older cinema display made me feel tired. It was a drag just looking at it. I really think my vision increased at least two or three optics just by looking at the new display. I have the display mounted to a flexscan display arm (one of the best arms out there). My only problem with the new display is that the connecting cords are all short with the exception of the power cord. Guess the engineers only had laptop use in mind when they developed this display. A bit short sighted of Apple - how did they expect that to work out with towers? I can see the reason for laptops as it would leave a bit of cord lying on the table top - but hey, all they had to do was add another 6-8 inches. They did make the power cord detachable - brilliant learnings from the previous displays. Other than that, the monitor is a vision of engineering beauty - typical of the high quality build that Apple does. The screen is brilliant - i could not ask for more - except the cord issue. So if you are thinking of getting this display - go for it. Keep in mind that you may have to elevate your tower. I should probably do that anyway. cheers :)

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Love it!
Written by EM from Kirkland

I went through several monitors before I landed here; including 30" ACD, and Dell 2707 WFP. I liked the 30 ACD but found it difficult to sit in front of it due to its size. When I sat back further it was hard to read text. The Dell was a solid monitor but a little fuzzy due to it's large dot pitch.
I was concerned about the glossy display. It has turned out to be a non issue producing sharp, brilliant images. As trivial as it is, it's nice to have the USB hub, notebook power and AV connection in 3 easy plugs.
I still think Apple should step off the proprietary wagon with the mini display port. It's great to have it but how about including HDMI & DVI too.
At the end of the day, it's the best image in the tightest package as long as you can connect it. For me image was highest priority. I have a newer MBP too to I have no conflicts with connections. I would also score the monitor very high on basic finish work and easy of adjustability.41 of 45 people found this useful

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Very satisfied, but a couple of minor gripes.
Written by PW from WESTWOOD

Pros:
- Stunning image quality, check out Apple's HD trailers and be amazed
- excellent brightness, which overcomes any reflection of the glossy finish ppl complain about.
- very clear speakers (but don't expect it to match the sound quality of external 2.1 or 5.1)
- Of course, great visual aesthetics and design
- It's a nice cabling solution that sidesteps the need for a docking station and dedicated A/C adapter for the computer.
Cons I can live with:
- Advertising "3 self-powered USB ports" to me is not accurate. The ports rely on the computer USB connection for power. So when you undock, your ipod or iphone will stop charging.
- No height adjustment on stand, though there is a VESA adapter available.
- Connections are proprietary.
My suggestions:
Looking to the near future, it would be cleaner to leverage a dedicated industry-standard HDMI cable connection for the video & sound. For power & data, Apple should take a cue from it's ipod/iphone design and use a single cable connection for both. Couldn't you just expand the Magsafe connector by a couple of pins? That would enable the display to be non-proprietary, and simplify docking down to 2 cables.
For the more distant future, I'm confident Apple will get things slimmed down to a single cable, maybe based on Intel's LightPeak.32 of 35 people found this useful

Crisp display, Audio is good and I gained 3 USB ports.
Still a tad expensive, but worth the money....22 of 31 people found this useful

Perfect complement to the Mac Air - 4 1/2 stars
Written by SS from Delmar
Sep 20, 2009
I bought this for office use to support my Mac Air travel laptop. Not only is it a great monitor from the standpoint of clarity, sharpness, and optical attributes, the ports give me multiple USB connects while still maintaining use of the Superdrive. This is perfect for the single USB port MacAir in the office.
Having read the other reviews on the relatively short length of the connect cables I was prepared for this when I configured my office with a tray to accept the MacAir nearby.
Rated 4 1/2 so that Apple will still try to improve it - I cant think of how, though

Terrific, but

I like everything about this display.
The "but" has to with the inability to connect it to an older computer. This created a major problem for me that could have been avoided with a little less ego and a little more practicality on the part of Apple designers. It's a $900 monitor. How about a VGA port or something?33 of 39 people found this useful

Gorgeous screen with LED.

Most INCREDIBLE screen I have used to date! Bright, clear and perfect colors. The LED backlighting makes this worth every penny...other displays look silly next to it. Wish it had HDMI in so I could connect other devices to use it as well, otherwise would be a 5 star review.

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Absolutely gorgeous, but not perfect for everyone
Written by SR from Menlo Park
Jul 29, 2009
For me, this monitor is phenomenal. It is the only product on the market that has 1) a quality panel (IPS), 2) a glossy finish and 3) LED backlighting.
I initially went with a Dell 2408WFP since it was half the price, but due to the heavy anti-glare coating, found text very difficult to read and a major strain on my eyes. Even better matte coatings (e.g. the current 30'' Cinema Display) have a shimmering or sparkling effect easily seen on a white background, which I find distracting. The LED Cinema Display has no such issues - text is clear and sharp. Reflections are certainly present, like on any other glossy screen, but I don't find them distracting.
The only faults I can find with this monitor are the lack of inputs (Apple really should have included a simple DVI port to appeal to a much broader group of consumers) and the fact that my monitor came with two dead pixels (both out of the way and not distracting, but unfortunate for an otherwise flawless piece of hardware).
Displays really come down to personal preference, so check this thing out in person before buying to see whether the reflections will bother you or not. In the end, you get what you pay for, and in my opinion this monitor is well worth the price.83 of 84 people found this useful

Excellent Display
Written by BO from Stafford
Jul 27, 2009
Have used the display for about 4 months. No issues concerning visual capability. Images are clear and I get no reflection from office (florescent) lighting. The ability to charge my laptop via the display is great. Additional USB and firewire ports on back are very useful and where as I initially thought that these ports should be on the side, after four months of use my opinion has changed and I now believe that Apple got it right by putting them on the back. Only issues are the inability to turn or rotate the screen (taken care of with purchase of rotating platform) and the inability to raise or lower display height. The rotation and height adjustment issues are only things keeping this product from being 5 Stars.

Perfect for MacBook Pro, but can't turn-off!
Written by DS from Philadelphia
Jul 17, 2009
This display is gorgeous and very helpful if you are editing video but prefer to use one larger monitor rather than the dual setup.
However, if your computer is in your bedroom and you author/encode DVDs overnight then you'll have a problem. The display cannot be turned off unless it is unplugged. This also means unplugging your MBP if you're using the power cord from the display. Setting the display on its dimmest setting doesn't turn off the screen. The old Apple Cinema Displays all have an on/off button on side, which this display does not.
So until Apple addresses this issue, don't plan on running your computer overnight in the same room that you sleep.

Apple Monitor at its best - but...
Written by DP from INDIANAPOLIS
Jul 11, 2009
I have used this monitor since it has been released. It is an outstanding piece of hardware and is great when mated to the MacBook Pro. The screen is incredible and the integrated camera and speakers de-clutter the the desk. The cord length inhibits your flexibility as to monitor and laptop placement. Not a deal breaker, but it reduces possible functionality... Apple needs a longer cord to use with the Mac Pro.

Great Display for the money..but
Written by RC from West Hollywood
Jun 12, 2009
Good looking screen, great display with excellent High density quality, great for watching movies, easy to install to all the latest macs. You will need and additional mini port to regular dvi if you want to connect to the older models which is not included. The internal speakers, well in a word..horrible, don't know why apple bothered to waste their time on such bad speakers when they could of used the money for something else like external controls for the monitor. Don't bother watching a movie or playing a game on this display unless you fix the problem by adding external speakers to you mac mini or what ever you are using. The Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel) would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the bad internal speakers.

Beautiful Display
Written by MM from Canton
May 12, 2009
Display is flat-out amazing, and allows you to work in the 17" MBP's native resolution, which is very handy. Colors are accurate, crisp, and rival that of the actual MBP itself. Great for graphic designers. I can't say enough good things about the picture. The speakers, however, are VERY tinny/high in treble, so if you're concerned about sound quality, I'd recommend using external speakers. Overall, great product. Tough to spend the $800+ on a display JUST for the MacBook/Pro, but worth it if you need a high-end desktop display.

Great monitor, rich colors, SUPER BRIGHT, but needs a longer cord!
Written by AT from NEW YORK
May 3, 2009
Turning it on hurt my eyes, even with the room already well lit, I have it just under medium which is fine for me. Colors are vivid. speakers, isight and extra usb ports are so so nice to have, especially since I'm using it with a Macbook Air (nvidia graphics and it plays 1080p flawlessly). If you're just ichat-chatting or doing very light internet browsing the fan doesn't spin up (at least not so audible). But anything more and it whirls harder, which isn't a big deal, but thats a MacBook Air thing, not a LED cinema display thing. Lastly, yes, the cable containing the power, USB and Display Port is short. They should add another foot to make customers happier, but since my laptop is close by I'll easily fine a work around. 5 stars for the display, minus one for a short cable.

Stunning Display, Perfect Companion
Written by MS from Roslyn
Apr 20, 2009
I originally had a regular widescreen monitor (Samsung) and it was a hassle to set up my Macbook Pro for use with it every time. Now I just plug in the three things and my display turns on and is a desktop computer.
So easy, and also very very beautiful. I almost wish I bought a Macbook instead of the Pro, because with this screen I hardly ever need to use the laptop anymore.
The only thing I can think of that I don't like about it is it's expensive and that I can't bring it with me to show off.9 of 15 people found this useful

Unbelievable Image Quality, Really Short Cord
Written by JB from Lemont
Apr 12, 2009
Bottom line, this is an absolutely stunning monitor. The mini display port connection works great with a macbook pro. The only downside is the short cord. I don't know how they could be this dumb. I just got the new mac pro with the mini displayport and I have to crawl under my desk to switch between mac pro or macbook pro. Did they really think that 4 feet of cord is reasonable. When you spend nearly $5000 on a system, you'd think you would be able to put the computer where you want it to be.
Hoping the extension comes soon.55 of 59 people found this useful
