Beautiful display but why a short cord?

    Written by JT from Calgary

    Jul 7, 2009

I love my new display. It looks amazing and the image quality is superb. But I really really am disappointed it has such a short cord. I have to put my display in a location on my desk where I don't want it to be. It's very annoying. I don't understand why Apple would do this. They should GIVE me an extension for the $1000 I spent on this. I also wish I could have a matte finish display. The glossy look can also get annoying because I have windows behind me.

Cord Length a very serious issue...

    Written by JR from Victoria

    Jul 4, 2009

Apple boasts that you can connect up to eight Apple Displays to the Mac Pro, but what they don't tell you is that you can't position them in any decent viewing place as the cables on these monitors are tooo bloody short, and non extendable (save for hacking off the end and making your own extensions...) how non-apple of a thing to do.
    Terribly disappointed, terribly.

The Best Monitor I Have Seen or Used

    Written by OD from Somerville

    Jul 4, 2009

I have purchased the display after some hesitation and do not regret my decision in any way. It is a great display - bright and crisp. The speakers are also very good. They produce a very clear sound and can be reasonably loud. There is also no issue with glare even in a very well lit room. Glare can be a problem only if you are determined to see it. The display also has not a single dead pixel! Great job, Apple, once again.

    Outstanding!

I bought this for everyday use so that I could use my macbook like a desktop for when I was at home and it is absolutely superb. It works out of the box, just like any apple Product. No problem with wires and a beautiful design. Once again Apple have managed to pull off something amazing. Well worth the money.

Beautiful Monitor with a Very Short Cord

Written by ML from Santa Monica

    Jun 30, 2009

I mean c'mon! Do you think you could have made the cord any shorter? All this money and you give it just a 2" cord to plug into the computer?
It doesn't even reach the floor when sitting on a normal size desk. Do you expect everybody to set their new Mac Pros directly next to the monitor on top of their desks?

Really disappointed in this tiny but important detail that you seemed to have overlooked.
Is there an extension available? Does it cost another $99.00?

    Good grief!

    A must-own for visual pros

I've had this monitor for about a half an hour now, and cannot say enough that it's worth every penny hooked up to my Mac Pro--especially when compared to the TN panel monitor I had as a temporary screen until this arrived. Superb quality product.

The best monitor I have ever seen

    Written by MK from Waterford

I bought this monitor and to be honest this is the best I have ever seen. I am watching movies I purchased from ITunes and they are great. The sound on this item is great I really don't know what some people are complaining about. It is well worth the price. I would highly recommend this monitor.

    Great Display!

Written by JR from San Luis Obispo

I went from a 24" iMac to a 17" Macbook Pro Anti-Glare AND 24" LED Cinema Display. I could not be happer! (That is, unless someone gave me a 30" display). The 24" display is arguably one the nicest displays I've seen. Works out of the box, has magsafe, USB, and Mini display port cables. Completely happy!

Awesome resolution and contrast ratio. The blacks are really deep and the screen is very bright. The i Sight works well, but the speakers aren't very good at higher volumes because the bass is very weak. I recommend getting external speakers if you really want good sound quality. Otherwise it's a great display and worth the money.

    Great Monitor!

This is my first Apple branded monitor and all I can say is the quality on it is EXCELLENT! Screen is very bright! I also like the built in isight camera. Now, I don't need a external webcam to do all my movies and youtube movies on. I recommend this monitor for any mac user who wants a very exhilarating experience!

LED is so bright that and it turns on rather quick when booting up. I give this a 5 star rating.

I am truly at a loss for words. This display is wonderful. It is easy on the eyes, I was worried about buying it because of the reviews about the glossy screen, and I have found that it is of no issue at all. In fact it adds to the viewing display, it is like looking into the depths of color and clarity. It is connected to my new MP (early 2009). My second screen is my (2003) Apple Cinema 22",( ADC, plastic frame), display. And as good as that old display is, there is no comparison. Final words, This is worth every penny. Do not short change yourself on a cheep screen, You will not regret buying this display.

    Excellent!... but

Written by JM from san bernardino

This screen is beautiful in every way. It's design goes beautifully with my mac pro, and it's just about perfect for everyday use. I was going to go with a cheaper dell with better specs but decided to go with this one instead because of how much I use (and love) the isight camera, and built in speakers.

The only con is that when is comes to working on projects with this display, it's a headache. If you're working in aperture, or color correcting in apple color, be prepared to pull out your hair. The glare is way too much to deal with sometimes. Glossy is just not practical for someone working in any environment that has light in the background. You often find yourself sitting right in front of the display, moving your head in at an angle just to get a better look. It gets really old really fast and when it happens you begin to wonder why you spent so much on a display (or imac and macbook pro for that matter.)

    Great Display for the money..but

Written by RC from West Hollywood

    Jun 12, 2009

Good looking screen, great display with excellent High density quality, great for watching movies, easy to install to all the latest macs. You will need and additional mini port to regular dvi if you want to connect to the older models which is not included. The internal speakers, well in a word..horrible, don't know why apple bothered to waste their time on such bad speakers when they could of used the money for something else like external controls for the monitor. Don't bother watching a movie or playing a game on this display unless you fix the problem by adding external speakers to you mac mini or what ever you are using. The Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel) would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the bad internal speakers.

I have just got my two displays for my new mac pro and it is 48 inches of pure crisp awesomeness. The cords are a tad small but that is the only real "con". I love them so much! I think you should ether get a 24 inch iMac or this if your getting a Mac.

    Just fantastic

    Written by DM from Richmond

    Jun 10, 2009

I bought this yesterday and felt I had to come and review it straightaway, after using it for about a day now. It is every bit as good as most of the reviews on here suggest!

It is very easy to set up and works straight out of the box. The screen itself looks as good as it possibly could, and is easy to arrange so that you can hide the wires, including the USB ones, behind the central stand.

And the quality is just fantastic! The screen is a joy to look at and is massive - there's lots of room to have several windows open just on the screen, but if you use your macbook to extend the area you can have everything open at the same time. It has a great range of brightness and of screen tilt, so it's easy to get the best setup for your needs. I'm in a pretty bright room and don't have problems with the reflection - no more than on my macbook already.

The only useful tip for those setting up for the first time is that you need to format the audio and camera for each program (e.g. Skype, iChat) but as with all things apple this is pretty straightforward.

I spent a while before buying this reading all the reviews and yes, the lead's not the world's longest, but it reaches fine to your macbook which can either be open or shut elsewhere on the desk. It seems lots of people have bought this for the wrong computer but it does explain quite clearly on the product descriptions which ones it's designed for.

If you're trying to decide whether or not to buy this, I'd say go for it. You won't be disappointed. I'm definitely not!

Thanks Apple for another great product!!

It's good, if you can deal with the glare

Written by SC from FORT LAUDERDALE

    Jun 9, 2009

First of all, this monitor is for notebooks. Evidenced by the short cord.

It's a fine monitor except for the glare. It's glass so it reflects. Make sure you do not have window behind you. Other then that, stunning color. The speakers are OK. Better then I thought they'd be. A bit over-priced, IMHO. But it's Apple. :)

3 stars for the color/picture/design and decent speakers. Minus 2 stars for the glare.

Great display when my MacBook is home. Bass is weak, but the speakers are actually better than I expected. I'm really happy with this addition to my computer. Now, all I have to do is figure what to do with all this space on the screen. The transition from 13.3 to 24 inches is awe inspiring! Actually, I'm not looking forward to doing much work on the road.

    Great Looking Monitor

Written by RW from Hartford City

    May 31, 2009

So far this monitor has performed quite well. The colors are some of the best for a monitor this price, and you get so many nice additions. The camera is high quality, the speakers are actually pretty good for being built in, and you also get the usb hub built into the back.

My only complaint would be the small MDP cord. I use this on a Mac Pro and the short cord does limit how far away you can be. Luckily this month there will be extension cords available from monoprice.com so I can't complain to much.

If you want a 24inch monitor you can't go wrong with this one.

Perfect for the New Mac mini!

    Written by DD from Houston

    May 31, 2009

I had this for a week already and yes I love it. I got the Early 2009 Mac mini with 4GB upgrade at Apple Store. I also got Logitech Z-5500 THX 5.1 Surround Sound, two 2TB Western Digital External Hard Drives. This setup I really love. I also have a wired Aluminum Keyboard & Wireless Mighty Mouse. The Keyboard connected to the Display and it’s USB connected to the Mac mini. Display has 3 USB ports, keyboard has 2 USB ports & Mac mini has 5 USB ports. Total open USB ports is 8! I know some people gripe by not having any Firewire port, but you can daisy chain as I done with my two 2TB WD External Hard Drives to the Mac mini if you want to connect a Sandisk Firewire 800 CF Reader just connect to the last port open on external hard since it has two each. Keep in mind if you connect a Firewire 400 device that drop your speed 50% on all connected to Firewire 400 speed. Now resolution, it’s beautiful and detailed. I’m looking to get the Canon 5D Mark II 21.1 Megapixel DSLR camera. For the last week I’ve downloaded the RAW Samples from Canon and others who own and or used the camera. The images are simply beautiful and detailed. If you want to do photography then you need this Display. This is a H-IPS (Horizontal In-Plane Switching) Display that will give better viewing angles and color reproduction close to a CRT Monitor. This is also perfect for those who buy or rent HD Movies & TV Shows from iTunes because its HDCP and HD Versions of Battlestar Galactica, Smallville & Heroes, Casino Royale well as watched 1080p Quicktime trailers and yes it looks awesome. This is worth every penny!

    Great Companion to MacBook

    Written by KR from APO

    May 26, 2009

I have not experienced the problems that other reviewers have had with this monitor. I think its fantastic. Its like having a docking station for the MacBook Pro. I have my MacBook set up on a stand at eye level right next to the monitor so I can use it as a dual-screen. It's exceptionally efficient. You can display your mail on one side, and work on documents with the other. The 24in screen also makes it easy to work on multiple documents at the same time. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
